PlayStation Plus subscribers on PS5 and PS5 Pro have 24 hours to get 4 games for free. The same applies to PS Plus subscribers on PS4, but with three games. Meanwhile, this is true no matter the tier of PS Plus subscription. Whether you are a PS Plus Essential subscriber, a PS Plus Extra subscriber, or a PS Plus Premium subscriber, the PS5 and PS4 games are free, but that will change on July 1 because on July 1, June’s free PlayStation Plus games will be replaced with July’s free PS Plus games.

More specifically, the following PS5 games are free to download and keep with a PS Plus subscription until July 1: Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, Alone in the Dark, NBA 2K25, and Destiny 2: The Final Shape. Minus Alone in the Dark, the same offer is also available to PS Plus subscribers on PS4.

As always, with PlayStation Plus, not only is an active subscription required to access these free game downloads, but to retain them as well. If your subscription to the Sony subscription service lapses, you will lose access to these four games, and other games you downloaded for free courtesy of PS Plus, until you subscribe back up.

Bomb Rush Cyberfunk

About: “Team Reptile brings you Bomb Rush Cyberfunk, one second per second of highly advanced funkstyle. In a world from the mind of Dion Koster, where self-styled crews are equipped with personal boostpacks, new heights of graffiti are reached. Start your own cypher and dance, paint, trick, face off with the cops and stake your claim to the extrusions and cavities of a sprawling metropolis in an alternate future set to the musical brainwaves of Hideki Naganuma.”

Alone in the Dark

About: “Return to Derceto Manor in this reimagination of Alone in the Dark, a love letter to the 90s cult classic horror game. Discovering that her uncle has gone missing, Emily Hartwood goes looking for him with the help of private investigator Edward Carnby. Arriving at Derceto Manor, a home for the mentally fatigued, they encounter strange residents, portals to nightmarish worlds, dangerous monsters—and ultimately a plot of rising evil and its followers.”

NBA 2K25

About: “Compete your way as you define your legacy in MyCAREER and MyTEAM, and experience MyNBA and The W or MyLEAGUE. Express your personality with an array of customization options and explore an all-new City or urban metropolis in the Neighborhood.”

Destiny 2: The Final Shape

About: “The Final Shape looms—a nightmarish calcification of reality into the Witness’s twisted design. Embark on a perilous journey into the heart of the Traveler, rally the Vanguard, and end the War of Light and Darkness.”

PlayStation has confirmed that it won’t be following in the footsteps of Xbox Game Pass. PlayStation and Xbox are often seen as huge rivals, though it seems like that rivalry is softening a bit as time goes on. Xbox has put key games on PlayStation, including one of its tentpole titles in Gears of War. PlayStation hasn’t necessarily returned the favor unless you count MLB The Show, though that seemed to be on MLB’s part rather than PlayStation’s. Nevertheless, Xbox and PlayStation are still competitors in a sense, but they are doing their own very unique things. Xbox wants to be everywhere that has a screen through streaming, native gameplay, and more. PlayStation is still operating traditionally, though.

Xbox really shook things up last generation with the introduction of Xbox Game Pass, a Netflix-like subscription that gives you hundreds of video games at no extra cost. The library is always rotating new games in and out and all of Xbox’s first-party games, including Call of Duty, are made available to Xbox Game Pass subscribers on day one. It’s a big swing and one that has led many to wonder how both Xbox and developers are even making any money on this thing.

PlayStation introduced its own PlayStation Plus catalog that is similar to Game Pass and brings in some great older games every month. It’s a great service that allows players to play on a budget, discover new games, and dip into older games they may have missed. However, PlayStation has always separated itself in one distinct way: none of the PlayStation Studios games are available on the service day one. If you want to play a great new game like Death Stranding 2, you have to cough up the $70 to buy it. It seems that won’t be changing anytime soon either.

PlayStation Won’t Put Any PS5 Exclusives on PS Plus On Day One

death stranding 2

When speaking to Game File, PlayStation vice president of global services Nick Maguire revealed that it has no plans to put any of its games on PlayStation Plus on day one or even shortly after their release. Instead, PlayStation has focused on independent games that they can platform through the service and putting those on the subscription service on release day.

“We’ve sort of stayed true to our strategy across the board, where we’re not looking to put games in day and date,” Maguire said. “[…] Our strategy of finding four or five independent day-and-date titles—and using that to complement our strategy of bringing games in when they’re 12, 18 months old or older—that balance for us is working really well across the platform.”

Years have passed before a PS5 game has been added to PlayStation Plus as God of War Ragnarok came to the service in early 2025 after releasing on PS5 in November 2022. It clearly means that not only does PlayStation have faith in it service without these big heavy hitters, but it also likely means that these games are selling for months and even years after their release and there’s no reason to give it away in mass.

What do you think of PlayStation’s decision to not put any games on PlayStation Plus on day one? Let me know in the comments below.

PS5 owners have been warned that their consoles could be dying and dead within a couple of years due to a manufacturing issue. Back in 2023, word first emerged from hardware experts that PS5 consoles had a substantial problem. The problem involves the PS5’s use of liquid metal, which was actually supposed to be hardware upgrade for the Sony console and was anticipated to be one. However, according to new reporting, the liquid metal issues of the PS5 — especially with early models — may be becoming more widespread and problematic. To this end, it is being claimed some PS5 consoles are in danger of dying in the next couple of years.

For those out of the loop, it has been reported that when vertical, the PS5’s liquid metal — which is in the the console to help keep it cool, which it does and does well — ends up dripping down the console, causing dry spots on the APU. This in turn can cause problems such as forced shutdowns.

At the time this issue was first reported, it was believed to be rare, but it is now being reported that it may be more widespread than previously thought. The latest about the issue comes the way of Alderon Games founder Matthew Cassells, who revealed on the Moore’s Law Is Dead YouTube channel, that they believe the problem is the culprit behind reports that the developer’s game, Path of Titans, is causing PS5 consoles to shutdown.

The good news is Sony is aware of this problem, and made tweaks to the PS5 Slim and PS5 Pro that are designed to alleviate any issues caused by the console’s liquid metal dripping. However, those on launch PS5s and earlier models will have to hope this potential problem doesn’t rear its head. In the meantime, these same PS5 users may want to keep their console horizontal.

As you would expect, PlayStation has not talked about the PS5’s liquid metal issues publicly. And for now, it remains unclear how much of a problem it is going to be. In the present though, it is not a very relevant problem, but there is the potential for a larger problem here, or so some think. Whatever the case, the issue is clearly substantial enough that Sony felt the need to make changes with later models.

A PS5 free upgrade for a former PS4 exclusive has been announced and it is coming later this summer, courtesy of Xbox. The PS4 game in question hails from 2017, and when it was released it was notably as a PS4 console exclusive. This means the only other platform it was available on was the PC, at least at first. The following year it shed its exclusivity and came to Xbox One. And then the year after this it came to Nintendo Switch 2, followed by Xbox Series X|S in 2021. Now, four years after its previous last release it is coming to PS5.

The game in question is Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice, which is getting a PS5 version alongside the release of Senua’s Sage: Hellblade II on PS5 on August 12. It will be included in the more expensive $70 Deluxe Edition of Hellblade II on PS5, as well as be a free upgrade for those who own the PS4 version of the narrative-driven action-adventure game.

When Hellblade was released in 2017 it was when Ninja Theory, its developer, was still independent. Since then, Xbox has acquired the UK studio. And it was Xbox who published the sequel. Consequently, while Xbox did not publish the first game, when it acquired Ninja Theory it acquired the publishing rights of the first game with it. In other words, it is Xbox doing this favor for PS5 users by offering a free upgrade to those who own the game already on PS4.

“From the makers of Heavenly Sword, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, and DmC: Devil May Cry, comes a warrior’s brutal journey into myth and madness,” reads an official description of the game on the PlayStation Stoew, for those unfamiliar with it. “Set in the Viking age, a broken Celtic warrior embarks on a haunting vision quest into Viking Hell to fight for the soul of her dead lover. Created in collaboration with neuroscientists and people who experience psychosis, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice will pull you deep into the melancholic fury of Senua’s shattered mind.”

At the moment of publishing, it is unclear how Xbox and Ninja Theory plan to deliver this free upgrade to PS5 users, however, it is presumably going to be via a game update, as that is typically how these upgrades are handled. Meanwhile, the upgrade is expected to include enriched visuals and new features, not seen in the trailer above, which is the older PS4 version of the game.

This new version of Hellblade will be available to PS5 Pro users, but there is no word of it taking advantage of the PS5 Pro and offering any type of “enhancements.” It is not out of the realm of possibility though, as Xbox has supported the console in the past.

Sony has officially been sued over the price of digital PS4 games and PS5 games on the PlayStation Store. The new lawsuit comes the way of Stichting Massaschade & Consument, which is a Dutch non-profit that represents collection of consumers in various class action lawsuits. If this sounds familiar, it is because this same organization threatened the lawsuit back in February. And now it has followed this up by formally filing said lawsuit on the “behalf of Dutch PlayStation players.”

According to the Dutch organization, Sony has exploited its position in the console market for over a decade, and in the process, has denied other app stores access to PlayStation. This leaves PlayStation fans with no option to purchase digital games beyond the PlayStation Store, which leads to paying higher prices due to the lack of competition.

“In its summons, the foundation makes two ‘main accusations’ against Sony: excluding competition and exploiting consumers and game developers,” writes the organization on its official website. In both cases, the dominant position of the PlayStation plays a major role.

The Dutch organization continues: “The PlayStation platform functions as a closed ecosystem (‘walled garden’) in which Sony determines who gets access, under what conditions and at what price. Alternative stores are technically excluded on the PlayStation, making gamers completely dependent on Sony for their choice.”

This isn’t the first time this argument has been made against PlayStation and others in the space. But what will, if anything, come of this? Well, there will be a hearing about the matter later this year, and if the jurisdiction of the Dutch court grants the claims, then the expectation is Sony will be forced to open the market for the sale of digital PlayStation content to other providers. And of course, if this plays out in the favor of the Dutch organization filing the lawsuit, it will likely open similar suits in other parts of Europe, which in turn would force Sony to make wholesale change. The cases are completely different, but we saw this unfold with loot boxes years ago. If a company is forced to change or exclude itself from enough markets, then it has no choice but to give in to the demands, even if it is from a minority of markets.

At the moment of publishing, Sony has not publicly responded to this lawsuit. If this changes, we will update the story accordingly. One of the trilogies on PS1 is free for a limited time. That said, those interested in revisting the trio of classic PS1 games, free of charge, will need an Amazon Prime subscription because the offer comes the way of Prime Gaming. And unfortunately, for PS4 and PS5 users chasing that wave of PS1 nostalgia, the offer is limited to PC. More than this, it is a limited-time offer that is only available until August 1, which means it is available for free for roughly a month.

More specifically the first three Tomb Raider games are free right now with Prime Gaming, but it is not the original versions, but the recent remaster of the trio of action-adventure classics that have been made free.

For those unfamiliar with the games, Tomb Raider, as a series debuted back in 1996. Developed by Core Design and published by Eidos Interactive — the former of which has since shut down — the first Tomb Raider game released to a 91 on Metacritic, and is widely considered not just one of the best games of 1996, but one of the great games of all time. And obviously, it birthed one of all-time great video game series. The following year, the same pair released Tomb Raider II in 1997 and then Tomb Raider III in 1998. The follow-ups weren’t quite as well received or as popular, but they came together to form a trilogy synonymous with the PS1.

In 2024, this trilogy was remastered and released as Tomb Raider I–III Remastered by Aspyr. And it is this remastered collection that is available for free with Prime Gaming.

Those that decide to check out Tomb Raider I–III Remastered now that it is free with Prime Gaming should expect to dump at least 35 to 40 hours into the trilogy to complete it. That said, those looking for completionists playthroughts will want to at least double this amount of time.

Meanwhile, and as always with Prime Gaming while an Amazon Prime subscription is a requirement for the free download, you do not need to retain an active subscription to keep the free download. This is opposite of how it works with similar offers like those that come with PS Plus, Xbox Game Pass, and Nintendo Switch Online.

A new PS5 console exclusive game has been stealth released on the PlayStation Store, and it is only $12.49. The new PS5 release, a co-op horror game, doesn’t come the way of PlayStation itself, nor has PlayStation marketed the game at all. In other words, this doens’t appear to be some type of third-party exclusivity deal. Whatever the case, whatever the reason the game is a PS5 console exclusive, the relevant part is that it is. The only other platform it is available on is PC, where it has been available since February 5 via Steam. This could change in the future, but right now there is no word of the game coming to any other console platforms. Unfortunately, for PS4 users, this also includes the PS4.

The new PS5 game in question is called Underward, which comes the way of independent developer Intense. And so far, PS5 users appear to be enjoying the horror game as it has a 4.16 out of 5 stars rating on the PlayStation Store, which is better than its 70% approval rating on Steam. To achieve this PlayStation Store rating, the new PS5 game has 79% 5/5 stars, 15% 4/4 stars, and then 6% 1/5 stars. Interestingly, there are no three or two star reviews.

Those interested in checking out the new horror game on PS5 should note online is required, as is a PlayStation Plus membership. Meanwhile, if there are any PS5 Pro enhancements, the game’s PlayStation Store listing does not mention them.

“Underward is a one-to-four-player cooperative horror exploration game,” reads an official pitch of the game on the PlayStation Store, for those curious in knowing more. “Investigators must carry ‘TEST-SUBJECT’ monsters from a deadly underground abandoned hospital ward. Can you uncover the truth hidden deep within the depths of Underward?”

While Underward is a co-op game that supports up to four players, it is online co-op. In other words, there is no local co-op option, aka not split-screen option, hence why PS Plus is required to play.

PlayStation has spoken out about its lack of support for PS3 games in its monthly batches of free PS Plus games. PlayStation is one of the biggest companies in gaming and has managed to attain tens of millions of players on its subscription service, PlayStation Plus. The service allows players to play online games, but perhaps its biggest perk is the amount of free games you get with it (depending on the tier you subscribe to). Not only do you get free PS4 and PS5 games, but you even get access to some PS2 games, such as Deus Ex: The Conspiracy for this month’s games.

It’s a great deal and one that allows for people to game on more of a budget. For about $20 a month, they get access to a big catalog of free games from across PlayStation’s 30 year history. However, there is one generation of console that seemingly gets left out of this roster of games. PlayStation doesn’t really add new PS3 games into this PS Plus line up, much to the dismay of fans as there are some absolute classics that are stuck on that console. The Killzone games, Infamous, Resistance, and a variety of others have been stuck on PS3 for ages with no remasters or ports in sight.

Some of these games are actually playable through PlayStation’s streaming service, but that’s not the ideal way to experience them, especially when PS2 games are emulated with new trophies on PS5. This year, there haven’t been any PS3 games offered through PS Plus, causing frustration with fans. Nick Maguire, vice president of global services at PlayStation, told GameFile that adding PS3 games is harder relative to other titles and

“Through streaming, we’ll still continue to look at those ones.” He added: “We haven’t ruled them out. The opportunities are there. But there are a lot of PS3 games already streaming.”

All in all, PlayStation’s support for PS3-era titles is disappointing. It would be great to see more games from that era made playable today. There are some games that have been ported over like God of War 3 and obviously the various Naughty Dog games, but some generation defining titles that fans may have missed out on aren’t as easy to access. Maybe one day PlayStation will figure it out, but it remains to be seen. There is hope that Metal Gear Solid 4 is being remastered by Konami with the expectation it will also be available on Xbox and possibly PC as well, but we’ll have to wait and see.

Nintendo helped develop Death Stranding 2 in a fairly roundabout way. Video games are a very collaborative effort, a lot of studios help each other in various ways. Epic Games has a hand in a ton of games thanks to the fact it developed Unreal Engine, Crystal Dynamics is helping out on Perfect Dark, and a lot of teams under a larger umbrella like Sony or Xbox often help each other out to make the best game possible. It’s pretty much unheard of for a big AAA game to be developed solely by the team that is credited on the box. Even Call of Duty is developed by a wide variety of studios these days.

With that said, some may be surprised to see Nintendo is named in Death Stranding 2‘s very long credits sequence at the end of the game. This credit is specifically for Nintendo Pictures, a Japanese animation studio owned by the gaming giant. They do a variety of things for the animation medium from CG to motion capture, but their appearance in the credits certainly raised some eyebrows for some fans.

death stranding 2

As noted by VGC, the credit is possibly the result of a contract that was made when Death Stranding 2 entered production about 4 or 5 years ago, which was before Nintendo even owned this company. The company was previously known as Dynamo Pictures and worked on a wide variety of projects, but Nintendo acquired the company in 2022 and renamed it.

The company was credited on the original Death Stranding as well, but it’s probably less likely that they will work on future Kojima games or a potential Death Stranding 3. It’s still an interesting credit and cool to see Nintendo collaborate on a PlayStation game, especially given the unique history between the two companies. Some have assumed there’s bad blood between PlayStation and Nintendo, but PlayStation did put LEGO Horizon Adventures on Nintendo Switch last year and there are some rumors that more games could come to Switch 2, but that remains to be seen.

As for Death Stranding 2, it’s one of PlayStation’s best games this generation. The game is being hailed as a Game of the Year candidate as it refines the ideas from the first game and makes them far more engaging and exciting. It’s a huge leap for the series as the first game was quite divisive, but the sequel is being embraced in a big way.

Next month happens to be the 15th anniversary for the service, and Sony is celebrating in a number of ways. Subscribers can look forward to tournaments, game trials, discounts, and more. Most importantly, fans have a trio of new games to look forward to, and it’s a pretty significant batch. All three games this month are big deals on their own, and together it makes for a really strong month overall. If you don’t already own these games, you shouldn’t have any trouble finding something to enjoy.

The biggest inclusion this month is Diablo IV. Released in 2023, Diablo IV was a massive critical and commercial success story. The game was nominated for a significant number of awards that year, winning Online Game of the Year from the 27th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards. Diablo IV offers both cross-play and cross-progression, so PlayStation users can pick up where they left off on a previous platform, or play with any of their friends on Xbox or PC.

diablo iv is easily the biggest addition to playstation plus for the month of july

Diablo IV is certainly the biggest game in next month’s PlayStation Plus offerings, but it’s not the only good one subscribers have to look forward to. The King of Fighters XV is also arriving, offering subscribers a chance to experience the most recent numbered entry in the series. SNK’s fighting franchise has been going strong for more than three decades, and this could be the perfect opportunity for newcomers to see why it has proven so enduring. The PlayStation Plus version is accompanied by the “Classic Leona” DLC skin, which allows players to change the character’s costume to match her design in The King of Fighters ’96.

The final new game in this month’s batch is Jusant. While not as big a name as Diablo IV or The King of Fighters XV, the game is still a worthwhile addition. Debuting in 2023, Jusant is a puzzle platforming game that follows a character climbing a tall tower. The game currently holds a Metacritic score of 85, and reviewers mostly had positive things to say upon Jusant‘s release. If this one flew under the radar for you, now might be a good opportunity to see why it was praised. Note: while Diablo IV and The King of Fighters XV are available to users on PS4 and PS5, Jusant is only playable on the latter.

If those games don’t appeal to some PlayStation Plus subscribers, hopefully the anniversary celebration will have something to enjoy. The PlayStation Plus Anniversary Cup might be the biggest inclusion, which begins on Saturday, June 28th. Players can compete in EA Sports FC, NBA 2K, UFC, Madden NFL, College Football, Tekken 8, and additional games. Prizes include virtual currency, an exclusive avatar for PlayStation Network, and movie credits that can be redeemed through Sony Pictures Core. Sony Pictures Core is hosting a sale through August 12th as part of the PlayStation Plus anniversary, so users could take advantage of both.

Are you looking forward to July’s PlayStation Plus lineup? Have you been looking for an excuse to try any of these games? Share your thoughts with me directly on Bluesky at @Marcdachamp, or on Instagram at @Dachampgaming!

A PS4 and PS4 console exclusive game is shutting down a little over a year after its release. The game in question is available on PC and smartphones, but not any other console platform. It is not a well-known console exclusive, nor an exclusive from Sony, but it is technically a console exclusive. That said, soon even PS4 and PS5 users won’t be able to enjoy it because it is ending services on September 29. And while the PC and smartphone versions of the game have some offline functionality, the PS4 and PS5 versions don’t. So when the servers are turned off, it will become unplayable.

The PS4 and PS5 game in question is Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon? Familia Myth Battle Chronicle, an action-RPG from Team Caravan and Aiming. The game debuted back in 2023, but only via PC and smartphones. It wasn’t until 2024 it came to the PS4 and PS5 via PlayStation Store.

“We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all of our players for your continued support,” reads an announcement from the aforementioned duo. “We deeply apologize for this announcement and any inconvenience it may cause. We are truly thankful for the support we have received throughout the game’s service. We kindly ask for your understanding regarding this decision to bring the service to a close.”

When the servers go off on September 29, 2025, the game will also become unavailable to download from the PlayStation Store. Typically, games are removed from sale well before their shutdown date, but because the game is free it is apparently staying up until the shutdown date.

Those interested in knowing the full schedule of events for the game between now and the shut off date can find said schedule here. As for why the game is shutting down, a reason has never been provided, but it clearly a costs issue. Servers aren’t cheap and the game has not done very well on PlayStation, or anywhere else, hence why all versions are shutting down.

The PS6 2027 release date — and more — has reportedly been revealed. The new information comes the way not of PlayStation or Sony, but courtesy of a well-known industry insider. Unfortunately, there are not a plethora of new details shared by the industry insider, nor a precise release date.

The report mentions that Sony is preparing to release the PlayStation 6 in 2027, however, there is reason to believe that Xbox may try to get out early this coming generation and release in 2026. The report mentions if this happens it could force PlayStation to accelerate their plans with the PS6 release date.

Beyond this, there are some technical details shared, such as word the PS6 — like the next Xbox — will use UDNA for the GPU. The report mentions this could lead to 20% faster performance/CU and around 2x for RT/AI performance.

Adding to this, it is claimed the PS6 will double/triple/quadruple down on AI upscaling and Ray Tracing, something Sony has suggested in the past.

All of this information comes the way Kepler_L2, a NeoGAF user known for their hardware-related leaks over the years. And typically, they are reliable, though considering they dabble in speculation, to a degree, not everything they say always comes to fruition. To this end, take this new information with a grain of salt. Not only is nothing here official, but even if it is accurate, it is subject to change, especially this far out.

At the moment of publishing, neither PlayStation nor parent company Sony have commented on this new report and the speculation it has created. There are various reasons why we don’t expect this to change, but if it does, we will update the story accordingly.

As always, feel free to leave a comment or two letting us know what you think. What would you like to see from the PS6 hardware and do you think 2027 is a good release date for it? One of the best Xbox Series X games out of Xbox Game Studios this generation is currently available on PS5 for $9.99 thanks to a new PlayStation Store discount that marks down the Xbox game to the lowest price it has ever been. That said, this PSN deal is only available until July 4. After this, the 50% discount will vanish and the Xbox game on PS5 will return to its normal price point on the PlayStation Store.

The Xbox Game Studios game in question hails from 2022, where it was one of the highest-rated games of 2022, thanks to its 88 on Metacritic. To this end, it is also one of the highest-rated Xbox Game Studios’ games of the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S generation. Then in 2024, it shed its Xbox exclusivity and came to other console platforms, including both the PS4 and PS5. For those that have not connected the dots yet, the Xbox game in question is Pentiment from developer Obsidian Entertainment.

For those not familiar with the California-based studio, Obsidian Entertainment is about to put out The Outer Worlds 2 and most recently put out Avowed earlier this year. Historically, it is best known for the likes of Fallout: New Vegas, South Park: The Stick of Truth, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II, and Neverwinter Nights 2. One of its best games, meanwhile, was one of its smaller games: Pentiment, an adventure role-playing game set in 1518 medieval Europe.

“Step into a living illustrated world inspired by illuminated manuscripts and printed woodcuts in a time when Europe is at a crossroads of great religious and political change,” reads an official description of the game on the PlayStation Store. “Walk in the footsteps of Andreas Maler, a master artist who finds himself in the middle of murders, scandals, and intrigue in the Bavarian Alps.”

Pentiment was part of the first wave of Xbox games to come to PS5 as part of Xbox’s growing multi-platform strategy. While it is not that novel for Xbox games to come to PS5 now, when Pentiment came over it still was.

Those that decide to check out Pentiment on PS5, PS5 Pro, or even PS4 thanks to this deal should expect a game that is about 15 to 25 hours long. The bottom part of this range represents a playthrough that sticks to the main story beats while the top end of this range represents a 100% completion of the game.

According to a new rumor, the next PlayStation State of Play is reportedly happening in the second half of September, and it could include a new game from Santa Monica Studio, the developer behind the God of War series. The new rumor does not specify the reveal of a new God of War game, but considering the studio has only ever released one non-God of War game — which was Kinetica, its first game back in 2001 — it is hard to imagine this will be anything but a new God of War game.

The new rumor comes the way of industry leaker Detective Seeds, a source who has, at times, proven reliable in the past, but a source who has also been off the mark recently and in the past as well. According to the leaker though, PlayStation is “collecting trailers” in anticipation of this event they claim will be a “‘longer’ state of play. The rumor then name drops Saros as one the featured games. This is the upcoming game from Housemarque, the studio who mostly recently put out Returnal on PS5. Then the rumor teases a new game from Santa Monica Studio.

“Playstation is collecting trailers for an event towards latter half of September,” claims the leaker. “Appears this will be a ‘longer’ state of play containing more Saros details, and possible showing of a project from Sony Santa Monica. I do not foresee a “showcase” event until PS6 debut time.”

God of War Raganrok released back in 2022, so it is getting close to the time where we should be hearing about the next mainline GOW game. After all, only four years separated the release of 2018’s God of War and God of War Raganrok, though the latter did get some more post-launch support than the former. However, there are heavy rumors of a new 2.5 Metroidvania-style God of War game in the works that is described as being a smaller release set to take fans of the series back to Ancient Greece. So if a new God of War game is revealed in September, it could be this.

All of that said, remember to take everything here with a grain of salt. Everything here is a rumor and even if it is all accurate, it also subject to change that could render it inaccurate. In particular, PlayStation State of Play dates are not typically locked in until they are imminent.

Sony has surprised PlayStation fans with a new, free PS5 release that evokes a different era of PlayStation. Over the generations, PlayStation has changed a lot. In the PS5 generation Sony has been undeniably a bit sterile and predictable at times. There haven’t been a lot of surprises from left field. So when a surprise does come from left field it is all the more notable for PS5 and PS5 Pro users.

To this end, Sony surprised PlayStation fans this week by releasing a new and free app called Climate Station for both the PS5 and PlayStation VR 2. Unfortunately, this is not new free PS5 game but a new free educational app designed to demonstrate various climate challenges around the world. The new app was designed by Sony itself with the help of the United Nations Playing for the Planet Alliance.

The new free app is currently available on the PlayStation Store, but unfortunately for PS4 users it is limited to PS5 and PlayStation VR2. Why this is, we don’t know. There are millions of active PS4 users and there’s nothing preventing this app from being functional on PS4. Meanwhile, the VR functionality is completely optional.

“Introducing Climate Station,” reads an official description on the PS Store. “This isn’t just an app—it’s a portal into the living history of our planet and the futures we still have time to shape. Designed for the power of PlayStation 5 consoles, and enhanced for PS VR2, this free, immersive experience puts you in the middle of Earth’s most critical story: our own. Over 90 minutes of interactive content—narrated by climate advocate Laura Tobin—takes you through rising seas, shifting temperatures, and stark climate futures, all built from real-world data by NASA, NOAA, and the IPCC. Explore three main zones: Weather Year (a time-lapse of planetary change), Observations (where we are), and Projections (where we could go). It’s not fiction, nor theory. It’s the world as it is — and as it could be.”

So far, the new free release has earned 448 ratings on the PlayStation Store from PS5 users, with a positive return of 4.18 out 5 stars. Of course, it being free helps with this rating. As for whether this will be available perpetually, we don’t know. Given all the partners involve it is possible there is some type of licensing involved that could expire at a future date but if there is Sony does not disclose as much.

July 2025 is going to be a bad month for RPG fans with a PS Plus subscription; or, more specifically, a PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium subscription. The good news for PS Plus Essential subscribers is all of the games leaving the subscription service next month are not a concern because they were never available with the standard tier of PS Plus in the first place.

There is no exact date, but around the middle of the month next month, PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium subscribers are losing the following games: Dying Light 2, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7, Job Simulator, Remnant 2, and Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong. Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong is not a really a relevant game and Job Simulator won’t hurt too much, but if you are an RPG fan, losing all three of the other games in one go is certainly not great.

The biggest loss here is no doubt Dying Light 2, but Final Fantasy fans won’t enjoy losing Crisis Core. Meanwhile, Remnant isn’t quite a full-blown RPG, but rather an action game with RPG elements, but it is a good game, and one subscribers won’t be happy to see go.

Dying Light 2

“It’s been 20 years since the events of the original game. The virus won, and humanity is slowly dying. You play as Aiden Caldwell, a wandering Pilgrim who delivers goods, brings news, and connects the few remaining survivor settlements in barren lands devastated by the zombie virus. However, your true goal is to find your little sister Mia, who you left behind as a kid to escape Dr. Waltz’s torturous experiments. Haunted by the past, you eventually make the decision to confront it when you learn that Mia may still be alive in Villedor — the last city standing on Earth.”

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy 7

“Crisis Core — Final Fantasy VII — Reunion follows the story of Zack Fair, a young warrior admired by the boy destined to save the world, trusted by men renowned as heroes of legend, and loved by the girl who holds the fate of the planet in her hands. The tale of Zack’s dreams and honor—the legacy that connects him to Cloud—is revealed in full in this grand saga that has broken the limits of an HD remaster.”

Remnant 2

“Remnant II is the sequel to the best-selling game Remnant: From the Ashes that pits survivors of humanity against new deadly creatures and god-like bosses across terrifying worlds. Play solo or co-op with two other friends to explore the depths of the unknown to stop an evil from destroying reality itself. To succeed, players will need to rely on their own skills and those of their team to overcome the toughest challenges and to stave off humanity’s extinction.”

The PlayStation Store‘s “Mid-Year Deals” sale, going on in June and July 2025, is, as the title states, bisecting the year with a host of discounts. Many of these have games at their lowest prices ever on PlayStation. Some are simply hitting the same low prices they often hit. Regardless, there are many titles to sift through.

Here are 10 of the best sales in the “Mid-Year Deals” sale on the PlayStation Store. All sales are live until July 2nd at 11:59 PM PT.

1) Black Myth: Wukong

Price: $47.99 / $59.99

Black Myth: Wukong sold quite a lot of copies and for good reason: it’s a beautiful Soulslike with fluid animation and decent swordplay. This mythical Chinese action game takes more than a few cues from FromSoftware’s library relatively well with its melee-based combat and gigantic boss fights. As is the case with many of these games, it doesn’t hit those same Elden Ring-esque highs and is let down by its dry story and merely serviceable grunt fights, but it’s still an impressive spectacle from a new team.

2) Dragon’s Dogma 2

Price: $29.39 / $69.99

Capcom took its time making Dragon’s Dogma 2, but it was more or less worth the wait. This open-world action RPG is more abrasive than most others in its genre, as it won’t hesitate to spawn a beast to ruin an otherwise perfect cart ride or have a pack of wolves drag the player away from their objective. This prickly attitude isn’t made to please everyone, but it’ll give everyone their own personal stories and sense of accomplishment that many other titles of its ilk aren’t as capable of doing.

3) Persona 5 Royal

Price: $20.99 / $59.99

Persona 5 was already an almost unanimously loved RPG, thanks to its tactical combat, striking style, and memorable cast, and Persona 5 Royal only makes those parts better. Royal is the beefed-up version of the game includes more characters, an extra semester, another location to hang out at, additional music tracks, and various combat changes, just to name a few. Persona 5 wasn’t lacking in quantity or quality, and Royal just makes that more clear.

4) Dead Island 2 Ultimate Edition

Price: $24.49 / $69.99

Dead Island 2, even after going through multiple reboots and developers, turned into a well-received action game with surprisingly witty writing. The combat isn’t a mindless slog because of how it encourages players to aim at specific body parts to disable their foes, a mechanic aided by an incredibly detailed gore system. Its open zones are worth exploring, too, because they’re modestly sized and have little to no filler. Dead Island 2 as a whole emulates this attitude because it’s not filled with the bloat a lesser game in its genre would have. Its two expansions don’t sully this reputation, either, and skewer both cults and Coachella-like festivals with the same flair seen in the base game.

5) The Invincible

Price: $16.49 or $14.99 for PlayStation Plus subscribers / $29.99

The walking simulator genre has its share of sci-fi screw-ups in space, but The Invincible is still able to stick out. This Firewatch-inspired title has players working alongside the amnesiac protagonist as she tries to figure out why she’s stranded on this planet and what happened to her crew. Its finale has some pacing issues, but it’s an overall intriguing mission on an alien planet filled with striking red rocks.

6) Eternal Strands

Price: $19.99 / $39.99

Eternal Strands went to the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild school of giving players the freedom to come to some solutions using the multi-use tools at their disposal. Fire, ice, and gravity powers can be utilized in different and intuitive ways, like freezing a boss’ wings so it can’t fly or using ice shards to create a makeshift bridge. It’s a slimmer RPG with some BioWare roots and a dash of Shadow of the Colossus with its giant beasts. Eternal Strands can get a little repetitive sometimes, but succeeds because of its new ideas and more digestible scope.

7) Mortal Kombat 1 Definitive Edition

Price: $27.99 / $69.99

Mortal Kombat 1 is not getting more support, but that means its Definitive Edition is actually definitive (and a version that keeps dropping more and more in price). This assist fighter has a slew of fan favorites, guests like Omni-Man and Ghostface, and niche 3D-era fighters that have been given new life, all of whom are supported by a liberating combat system that empowers players to experiment. It’s easily one of NetherRealm Studios’ best core fighting games and makes up for all of the game’s many other shortcomings, mainly its anemic story mode, mobile game-like Invasions mode, and lack of a Krypt.

8) Flintlock × Pacific Drive Bundle

Price: $21.44 / $64.99

Flintlock × Pacific Drive Bundle contains an odd pairing of games, but it is a great value. Flintlock: Siege of Dawn wasn’t glowingly received at launch, yet this “Soulslite” is a mid-tier God of War-like game that would have felt right at home in a previous generation. It has many features like action-based combat and fast traversal abilities, but doesn’t excel in any one area and is seemingly aimed at those who are nostalgic for the PS3 era, want to dive into a new world, and don’t need every game to be a Game of the Year candidate.

Pacific Drive is more of the pull here since it was an acclaimed extraction game with a unique focus: the player’s car. This vehicle is the centerpiece of the experience and is something drivers have to take care of and upgrade if they want to go deeper into the unpredictable void and gather even more supplies. Developer Ironwood Studios has been constantly adding new features to the game and has made it even better and more complete as time has gone on.

9) Hazelight Bundle

Price: $19.79 / $59.99

Developer Hazelight is known for its co-op games and this bundle has two of those games that helped build that reputation. A Way Out is a Shawshank Redemption-esque tale of two criminal brothers as they attempt to escape the law. It dabbles heavily in cinematic tropes to its detriment, but is able to overcome those cliches through the many gameplay mechanics it cycles through. Not all of them are tight, yet they make sure the game keeps moving.

It Takes Two is a more optimized version of that idea and was more celebrated because of it. This title is more playful and is constantly serving up more inventive mechanics that are tossed out just before they even begin to grow stale. It’s truly wondrous gameplay systems reward cooperation and communication, avoiding the mindlessness that other co-op-focused games can have. The story crumbles at the end, and the writing isn’t its strong suit, but the sheer inventiveness of its gameplay is almost the sole reason why it has become a co-op classic.

10) The Outer Worlds: Board-Approved Bundle

Price: $19.99 / $49.99

The Outer Worlds 2 is only a few months away, meaning now is a perfect time to check out the first game. And given how expensive the sequel will be, a sale on this old title makes this proposition even more enticing. This Obsidian Entertainment-developed RPG is a sharply written critique of late-late-stage capitalism that’s as funny as it is incisive and is given extra life through its carousel of charismatic characters. And even though it rarely requires such precision, combat has plenty of options and gives players command over what kind of fighter they’ll be. Of course, many situations can be talked through, as well, showing Obsidian’s signature multifaceted quest design. Its DLC keeps up this quality and has players going through a murder mystery and a TV serial-like plot.

PlayStation 5 owners have plenty of DualSense controllers to choose from including basi colors and patterns to special edition controllers for games The Last of Us series, Fortnite, Helldivers 2, and more. Fans of sleek design for the PS5 are about to be green with envy, as Sony has announced a stunning, exclusive Dual Sense controller, but unfortunately for collectors, it’s only going to be available in a very limited capacity at an event.

In a tweet from one of PlayStation’s regional accounts, it was announced on Thursday the Esports World Cup in Saudi Arabia this summer will host not only competitions but also the new PS5 DualSense controller encased in emerald and white. The only catch is in addition to having just a limited opportunity to purchase the Jewel Green DualSense, you have to actually be at the event itself.

The Jewel Green DualSense maintains all the premium design and performance of its standard cousin, but with the addition of an emerald green faceplate that gives it a sleek, elevated visual.

According to the post, this exclusive controller will be available starting July 10, 2025, and will only be available for purchase at the Esports World Cup. The event itself is taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from July 7 through August 24, 2025, though many esports fans probably already have these dates on their calendars. PlayStation has not stated how many of these controllers will be available, but it is likely the exclusive DualSense will sell out quickly, due to the popularity of the accessory, and the collectible nature of the exclusive.

The only downside to this controller is that it doesn’t have any upgraded features. It also lacks any embellishments beyond the green overlay. While fans could try and get it signed by the players competing at the tournaments, it doesn’t come with any engraving or extra art to indicate the event it was released at. While this is likely to keep the design as sleek as possible, with such a limited release, it could have been a nice touch.

Because it is meant to hit the market a few days into the Esports World Cup, it is likely that information about where to purchase it will go live closer to the start of the event. However, if past limited-edition releases like this one for consoles and accessories in and outside of PlayStation are any indication of what’s to come, it’s much more likely that we’ll be seeing these green DualSense controllers on third-party sites. They usually fetch exorbitant prices whenever they’re sold this way, so expect to be shelling out quite a bit if you’re going to try to get one of these after the fact.

GTA Online has dropped a restriction to the PlayStation version of the game for a limited time. GTA Online is massive and has even outlived Red Dead Online. Although the latter is still functional and playable, Rockstar killed support for it a few years ago in favor of moving those resources over to GTA 6‘s development. It’s an understandable decision, but it speaks volumes that GTA Online wasn’t sunset at the same time. It must mean it is still a very lucrative game and there’s no incentive to killing support for it. Of course, it likely generates a lot of income for Rockstar without having to release a new game.

GTA Online has been getting at least two big updates every single year this generation, allowing fans to enjoy new content on a frequent basis. The latest GTA Online update just released this week and allows players to buy their own legitimate businesses, such as a car wash and a weed dispensary. Of course, while you can totally run these as above the board establishments, you can also use them for unsavory reasons such as to launder money or gain advantages on your more illicit operations. It’s a big update and one that will likely keep fans busy as they wait for GTA 6.

gta online

Rockstar Games has also opened the door to allow fans to get in on the action even if they don’t have PlayStation Plus. Typically, the subscription service is required to play most online games, but Rockstar will allow all PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 players to play at no extra cost so long as they own GTA 5 or GTA Online standalone. This is a great perk that Rockstar offers on occasion when a new update drops, allowing players to get a taste of the action. This will last two weeks, so it will likely expire around July 1st. If you haven’t played GTA Online, now’s a great time!

On top of the new update, Rockstar Games also planted a teaser for the next GTA Online update. It seems like players will be able to develop and own their own luxury properties in the game, allowing them the chance to own their very own mansion. This is something fans have wanted to see for years and it seems like it’s happening. The update will likely arrive in December, as that’s typically when we get the second GTA Online update each year.

Beat Saber is killing support for PlayStation consoles. About a decade ago, people were pretty convinced that VR was going to be the next big thing. Now, it’s here, it’s fairly accessible, but it’s hardly booming. There is an audience for VR and it does justify itself, but it has also struggled to be adopted. Of course, it’s costly, it requires some space, players typically have to be physically involved and blind themselves to their surroundings and so on. PlayStation has really fumbled with PSVR in particular. The first headset was clearly a test run, as it reused PS3 Move Controllers and felt somewhat cheaply made.

The PSVR2, however, is a remarkable leap forward and is an impressive piece of technology. However, the PSVR2 was also stupidly expensive, costing $550 at launch without any games bundled in. That’s more expensive than the PS5 itself! The price was cut later, but it was too little, too late. It didn’t help that PlayStation didn’t seem willing to commit to any major first-party support outside of Horizon Call of the Mountain. A lot of the VR games on PSVR2 are playable elsewhere, including on much cheaper devices. While PSVR2 does boast some unique features, it hasn’t done enough to really justify its existence and PlayStation seems to be throwing in the towel, only showing one multi-platform VR game at its recent State of Play.

With that said, it seems that even some developers may be calling it a wash as well. Beat Saber is ending support for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, though no reason was given by developer Beat Games. The game will remain on sale and players can still access all of their content, but no future updates are coming to the game. Additionally, multiplayer for Beat Saber will be removed from the PlayStation versions of the game in January 2026. Given Beat Saber is one of the most popular VR games out there, it’s pretty noteworthy to see a developer pulling out of PSVR like this. You can view their statement below.

“As we look to the future and plan the next big leap for Beat Saber, we have made the decision to no longer release updates for PS4 and PS5 starting in June 2025. Our passion for VR remains unwavering. We are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead and what we can bring to Beat Saber fans who have been on this journey with us over the past 7 years.

What this means for you:

  • This update will not impact your ability to keep playing Beat Saber, and you will still have access to content that you previously purchased on the PlayStation platform.
  • Beat Saber will still be available for purchase on PS4 and PS5 devices, and you can still play or purchase songs or music packs that were released prior to June 18, 2025. However, no new content will be released on these platforms after that date.
  • Additionally, starting on January 21st, 2026, multiplayer will no longer be available in Beat Saber on PS4 and PS5.
  • Cross-buy, however, will remain active between the PS4 and PS5 base game.”

What do you think of Beat Saber ending support for PlayStation? Let me know in the comments.

A new yet unannounced God of War game has been met with an unfortunate delay, according to sources knowledgeable of the game’s development. The God of War franchise is one of PlayStation’s flagship franchises, largely thanks to Sony Santa Monica’s soft-reboot of the franchise back in 2018. The game took cues from the likes of The Last of Us by creating a more emotionally rich story that centered around a father and son as opposed to Kratos simply slashing his way through anything that gets in his way on a quest of revenge. The more nuanced and mature take on God of War led to numerous awards, great reviews, and incredible sales.

Just 4 years later, PlayStation followed it all up with God of War Ragnarok, which was also met with high praise and great sales. However, it also neatly tied up the story. What seemed to be planned as a trilogy was concluded in the second game. Of course, there are still places the God of War series can go, but they’re a lot less obvious as opposed to where the 2018 game ended. We still don’t really know what Sony Santa Monica has in store for the next game in the series, but there will reportedly be a God of War spin-off before the next mainline Kratos story.

god of war

Rumors have been swirling for a while now that a new God of War game is coming very soon. In fact, it was rumored that it was heavily speculated that this game would appear at the recent PlayStation State of Play and potentially release sometime this year. Alas, it didn’t show and many began to wonder if any of these rumors were true in the first place. The new God of War game is heavily rumored to be set in Greece and be more of a 2.5D Metoridvania game, unlike the other recent God of War games. This would be a side story, reportedly featuring Deimos, the brother of Kratos.

However, a new report from Jeff Grubb indicates that this new God of War project was internally delayed to 2026. We have no idea when in 2026 it is planned to release, but if I had to guess, it is likely sometime in the first quarter of 2026. If this was planned for a fall release, it’s hard to imagine the game being delayed past next spring unless there’s something seriously wrong with it.

Of course, take it all with a grain of salt regardless as the game still hasn’t been announced. There are rumors of a big PlayStation Showcase this fall, which is where it could be announced. There’s also a chance it could appear at The Game Awards, which is where God of War Ragnarok‘s DLC was revealed. This also all comes after PlayStation cancelled a live-service God of War game earlier this year, though not much is known about that project.

Are you still interested in this new God of War game? Let me know in the comments.

Stellar Blade Eve

The Nintendo Switch 2 bandwagon grows larger as reports of Stellar Blade coming to the handheld console have appeared. This report indicates that developer Shift Up has received a developer kit for the Nintendo Switch 2 and has begun work. At this time, Stellar Blade and Nikke: Goddess of Victory are the only games under the studio’s belt, though Shift Up has reportedly begun work on a sequel to Stellar Blade.

Shift Up did not confirm whether it was working on a Nintendo Switch 2 version of Stellar Blade. However, PlayForum, who first reported the possibility of a Switch 2 port, did reveal Shift Up is “reviewing various possibilities internally.” This does not necessarily mean Stellar Blade will arrive on Nintendo’s latest console, but fans are hopeful they’ll be able to play the game on the go.

stellar blade’s eve.

One should keep in mind that this is just a rumor and fans should wait until Shift Up makes an official announcement. With Sony being the publisher of Stellar Blade, a Nintendo Switch 2 version seems unlikely. That said, LEGO Horizon Adventures did have a multiple-platform release, including the Nintendo Switch.

Even if this rumor is true, the timing will likely be a ways off. Shift Up only recently brought Stellar Blade to PC and it would take some time to get the game running on the Nintendo Switch 2. The barrier between Sony and Nintendo provides another issue and Sony has shown it is reluctant to release on other platforms. However, with Sony porting to PC more often, it isn’t impossible.

What are your thoughts on a Nintendo Switch 2 port of Stellar Blade? Do you think it’s possible or just wishful thinking? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

Kojima Productions

PlayStation has released a new recap for Death Stranding ahead of the release of the second game. Hideo Kojima is a guy who makes games that are pretty… heady. There’s really no other game developer quite like him as his stories are very surreal, his gameplay is very specific, and he makes incredibly cinematic games with an emphasis on lengthy cutscenes. They can be daunting for people who aren’t familiar with his style, but they’re incredibly rewarding if you just embrace them and stick with it. Metal Gear Solid is what Kojima is best known for and he is planning to return to the stealth action genre in the future, but he’s been working on something else for the last decade.

Following his exit from Konami, Kojima announced a new IP called Death Stranding. It’s very different from his other games as players play as a “porter” who delivers packages across an apocalyptic America, encountering both human enemies and monsters. The gameplay revolves more about traversing the environment with ladders, ropes, and other structures as opposed to shooting your way through hordes of enemies. It’s a refreshing take, but one that was also a bit divisive. Now, Death Stranding 2 is nearly here and fans are eagerly anticipating its arrival.

Of course, the game came out six years ago and the story was a lot to chew on, so you’d be forgiven for not remembering (or maybe even understanding) all of it. Thankfully, PlayStation has released a handy recap of Death Stranding for players to watch ahead of the second game. In May, previews of Death Stranding 2 also noted there’s an in-game recap, but this video will allow fans the chance to get caught up to speed before launching the game. You can view it below.

It seems like the recap will benefit people who have actually played Death Stranding already as it condenses a lot of events and info in six minutes, even seemingly leaving out key details and characters such as Cliff. So, if you haven’t played the first game and want to play the second one, you may want to find a more in-depth recap elsewhere. Death Stranding 2 is expected to be a more digestible story, as actor Norman Reedus indicated he had an easier time following the story while making the game compared to the first one. It will also be a much more action-packed game with more guns and weapons that can be used to combat threats in a direct fashion.

In late May, PC players got a pretty big performance update for The Sims 4. However, there was a bit of a delay in bringing those changes to console gamers. Today, console gamers can finally download the latest free update for The Sims 4, but that’s not all. The latest patch also features a few additional bug fixes for players on all platforms, all based on direct community feedback. The June 17th update for The Sims 4 is now available on PC, Mac, Xbox, and PlayStation consoles.

Today’s The Sims 4 update isn’t a massive one, but it does contain quite a few significant fixes. The main highlight for players on Xbox and PlayStation is that they’re finally getting all of the performance boosts and bug fixes from the previous patch, which released on May 27th. But there are a handful of additional bug fixes in today’s patch for players on all platforms. The fixes are all direct responses to reported issues from the EA forums, so these small but significant tweaks should make the game better for all Simmers.

The patch includes two bug fixes for the base game, including Sim models getting distorted if they travel too soon after aging up, and changes to Sim portraits. There are also a handful of pack-specific fixes, including changes to seasonal menus from The Sims 4: Seasons and a fix for vanishing employees in The Sims 4: Businesses & Hobbies.

The Sims 4 Patch Notes for June 17th Update

New Sims 4 Ailments
The upcoming expansion adds an enchanting new career path

The full patch notes for today’s The Sims 4 update, as shared by EA, appear below:

What’s New in The Sims 4

  • The full update from 5/27 is now available for Simmers on Xbox and PlayStation. Thank you for your patience!

  • [EA Forums] Resolved an issue where Sims models could become distorted when traveling shortly after aging up.
  • [EA Forums] Sim Portraits are now properly updated with career outfit when Sims join a career.

Along with this update, EA has teased a new Laundry List coming soon. This will cover what additional bug fixes gamers can expect in the next major base game update for The Sims 4. That update is likely to arrive a bit closer to the upcoming Nature’s Calling live event, which starts on June 24th.

An RPG release on PS2 back in 2002 is now free with PlayStation Plus Premium, and available to purchase on the PlayStation Store for everyone without a PS Plus Premium subscription. The new PlayStation Plus game in question technically hails from 2000, but it was only released on PC in 2000. It wasn’t until 2002 that it came to PS2, and this is the only console the game ever came to. In other words, it is a PS2 console exclusive.

More specifically, those with a PS Plus Premium subscription can now enjoy the original Deus Ex from developer Ion Storm and publisher Eidos Interactive. In 2025, the Deus Ex series is not overly relevant, but there was a time when it was, and it started in with the first game. Upon release, Deus Ex — created by Warren Spector — garnered a 90 on Metacritic, and is widely considered one of the all-time great RPGs and a pioneer in the immersive sim space as well. In addition to critical acclaim, it also sold over a million copies, an achievement not supremely impressive in the modern era, but it was back then.

With all this success, it spawned a series of the same name. Releases in this series include 2003 sequel Deus Ex: Invisible War, 2011 prequel Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and its own sequel, 2016’s Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. As for Ion Storm, the studio closed in 2005, and since then the series has been shepherded by Eidos Montreal and Square Enix.

“The year is 2052 and the world is a dangerous and chaotic place,” reads an official description of the game, for those unfamiliar with it. “Terrorists operate openly – killing thousands; drugs, disease and pollution kill even more. The world’s economies are close to collapse and the gap between the insanely wealthy and the desperately poor grows ever wider. Worst of all, an ages old conspiracy bent on world domination has decided that the time is right to emerge from the shadows and take control.”

The PlayStation Store‘s June 2025 “Remasters and Retro” sale is a blast from the past. It’s full of all sorts of hits from yesteryear and many past systems. It’s not just ports or emulated versions of games, either, as publishers have taken a liking to remasters and remakes over the last few years. There’s a discrepancy between the respectable celebrations and cynical cash-ins, so it can be hard to find the ones worth delving back into.

Here are 10 of the best sales in the “Remasters and Retro” sale on the PlayStation Store. All sales are live until June 25th at 11:59 PM PT.

1) Stories Untold

Price: $1.49 or $0.99 for PlayStation Plus subscribers / $9.99

Stories Untold is a unique horror game. It’s an anthology of four brief stories that, for the most part, play out in front of a computer or similar device, all of which are dipped in 1980s nostalgia. They don’t rely on jump scares and are more eerie games based around text and puzzle-solving. There are some spooky twists and turns over this short journey and demonstrates developer No Code’s skill with the genre even in its early days. The studio later went on to create its other acclaimed horror game Observation before collaborating with Konami and Annapurna Interactive to create the upcoming Silent Hill: Townfall.

2) Hotline Miami

Price: $1.99 / $9.99

Hotline Miami has influenced many games like Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes, Katana Zero, and The Hong Kong Massacre, to name a few, but it’s still the best at what it does. This drug-fueled violent spectacle encourages players to react quickly as they go on their murdering sprees, as one wrong move is all it takes to force a generously quick restart. Every move matters and that forces players to pay attention.

The thumping soundtrack is perfect for this sort of action and only makes the gameplay even more hypnotic. The sequel — which is currently also on sale — loses sight of a lot of what makes this first entry so beloved and gets bogged down with overly punishing levels and a wildly convoluted story. If anything, it proves how brilliant the first game was.

3) DOOM + DOOM 2

Price: $3.99 / $9.99

DOOM and DOOM 2 are classic first-person shooters that popularized a whole genre, and while games that foundational and old can wither with the sands of time, these two industry-defining hits haven’t lost much in the last 30 years. A lot of their core design about moving strategically through projectiles and picking the right weapon to exploit a specific enemy’s weakness translates right to the modern DOOM games and is why they’re still so compelling.

This specific collection is also quite sweeping, as it not only includes the core two games, but also expansions, cross-platform online deathmatch, new and old soundtracks, mods, accessibility options, and a new episode by id Software, Nightdive Studios, and MachineGames (and another made by id co-founder John Romero). It’s likely the best and most complete version of some of the best shooters from the 1990s.

4) Bayonetta & Vanquish 10th Anniversary Bundle

Price: $9.99 / $39.99

There are very few bundles, if any, that have as much action packed inside of them as Bayonetta & Vanquish 10th Anniversary Bundle. Bayonetta is a Devil May Cry-like hack-and-slash with best-in-class controls that has depth for those who want to dig for it, as well as flashy finishers and a whole ton of attitude that’s easy to admire on a casual level. Vanquish inverts the plodding cover-based shooter trend that was popular near its release by having a main character with a rocket-powered suit that can jet all around the battlefield. It plays out like a fusion of Bayonetta and Gears of War and is something wholly unique that still hasn’t been emulated much today.

5) Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1

Price: $29.99 / $59.99

The first three Metal Gear Solid games are classics in their own right, but Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 was not received too well at launch. The trilogy lacked options and didn’t look like it got the care it deserved. However, Konami spent months patching the bundle and making it into something much more worthy, as it now supports more features and runs at a higher resolution. All three games are also currently on sale individually for $9.99, which is ideal for those who just want to dabble, but this important package deserves to played in its entirety.

6) Saints Row: The Third Remastered

Price: $4.49 / $29.99

MindsEye turned out to be a disaster, which is unfortunate because of how much pent-up demand there is for open-world crime games. Saints Row: The Third Remastered calls back to the PS3 and Xbox 360 era of open-world games because it is one of those titles. It’s silly and gives players plenty of tools to wreak havoc in, from dildo bats to grenade launchers with infinite ammo. Some aspects are a little dated and the protagonist is prone to being repeatedly ragdolled during explosions, but it’s a cheap throwback when the series — and, arguably, genre — was at its peak.

7) Assassin’s Creed Rogue Remastered

Price: $8.99 / $29.99

Many Assassin’s Creed games are accused of taking safe routes and having predictable setups, but this does not apply to Assassin’s Creed Rogue. Rogue follows an Irish Templar named Shay Cormac as he takes his bitterness out on his old Assassin buddies. Flipping the script like this gives this game more of an edge and is something the modern entries would benefit from.

It’s also a mechanical step up from Black Flag both on land and at sea, making it smoother and somewhat of an indirect sequel. Rogue is an underrated entry that was damaged through franchise fatigue and how its launch coincided with Assassin’s Creed Unity, an infamously terrible and buggy release that sucked up all the oxygen in the room. At least its legacy continues through this remaster.

8) Katamari Damacy Reroll

Price: $7.49 / $29.99

There’s a reason Keita Takahashi’s games are always compared to Katamari Damacy and there’s a reason they can’t seem to come out on top: Katamari Damacy is just that great. Katamari Damacy Reroll is a remaster of the debut entry and contains some small gameplay and visual changes, as well as a hefty bump in resolution and widescreen support. Rolling up junk with a ball is the main draw, though, and is still an intriguing gameplay loop over two decades later.

9) Blasphemous 2 – Mea Culpa Edition

Price: $22.79 / $37.99

Blasphemous 2 builds on the action platformer and Soulslike roots of the original, but doubles down on the Castlevania inspirations. Its combat still rewards patience and skill, but also contains plenty of backtracking for those who want to hunt down secrets and upgrades.

It’s a standard setup for an indie platformer, but the art design puts it above most of its competition. Taking in inspiration from The Game Kitchen’s home country of Spain, Blasphemous 2‘s environments, enemies, and bosses range from grotesque and magnificent and are never anything less than striking. This edition also comes with its 2024 expansion, Mea Culpa, which adds the titular sword from the first game, as well as new areas, bosses, and upgrades.

10) Crysis 2 Remastered

Price: $8.99 / $29.99

Crysis 4 is on hold, so it’s best to look back in the series’ history for some high-tech first-person shooting. Crysis 2 Remastered takes the nanosuited protagonist Alcatraz into a wrecked version of New York City and gives players plenty of ways to use that superpowered suit to their advantage. While it is more linear than its predecessor and has a less visually striking environment, blasting through aliens and sneaking around is a power fantasy that the more multiplayer-centric shooters of the modern age aren’t as equipped to evoke.

During this month’s PlayStation State of Play, Arc System Works revealed Marvel: Tokon Fighting Souls. Details about the game have been pretty slim thus far, but the roster will feature a number of iconic Marvel characters, including Spider-Man, Captain America, and Iron Man. The narrative that brings these heroes together is currently unclear, but some interesting hints have been discovered in the game’s initial trailer. Reddit user MasterofKombat has shared a pair of images from the trailer, both of which might reveal the game’s final villain. While unconfirmed, it looks like the game will pit players against The Champion.

While The Champion has not actually appeared in any footage, this theory rests on two specific references that have been spotted in Marvel: Tokon Fighting Souls. The first is spray paint in a stage that reads “Fear The Champion.” That alone wouldn’t be enough; spray paint designs have been a staple of fighting game stages for years, and it’s not unthinkable that this could just be an Easter egg. However, the second hint is a much bigger one, as an image of the character’s belt can be seen. Readers can find both in the Reddit post embedded below.

The Champion (also known as Tryco Slatterus) was created by Tom DeFalco and Ron Wilson in Marvel Two-in-One Annual #7. That first storyline centered on The Champion enlisting several heroes for a boxing match, which ended in a one-on-one brawl between The Champion and The Thing. That sounds like it would be the perfect background for a fighting game, and a smart way for Arc System Works to further set Tokon Fighting Souls apart from what we’ve seen from Capcom. It’s worth noting that The Champion and Thanos have some history with one another, which would be the perfect excuse to make the Mad Titan a playable character, as well.

Video games can offer an opportunity to expose casual audiences to comic characters that might be less popular. Perhaps one of the greatest examples is Marvel vs. Capcom 3, which has been credited with greatly increasing the popularity of Deadpool, several years before the character had his own movie. It’s possible Marvel: Tokon Fighting Souls could similarly elevate The Champion as a villain, should this theory pan out.

Marvel: Tokon Fighting Souls isn’t set to be released until sometime in 2026, so it could be a little while before we get any additional information. Until PlayStation and Arc System Works decide to reveal more, fans will have to speculate about the story, and which characters will be featured. If The Champion really does end up being the game’s primary antagonist, it would be nice to see The Thing make an appearance as a playable character. The Fantastic Four have often been neglected when it comes to fighting games, but this would be the perfect excuse to at least add Ben Grimm to the cast.

Do you think The Champion will be the main villain in Marvel: Tokon Fighting Souls? What characters do you want to see playable in the game? Share your thoughts with me directly on Bluesky at @Marcdachamp, or on Instagram at @Dachampgaming!

The next PS2 game coming to PS4 and PS5 as part of the PlayStation Plus Classics Catalog has seemingly leaked, and this time PlayStation fans are being taken back to 2003 and a series that got its start on the PS1. Those that were playing the PS2 back in 2003 may remember Call of Duty, Final Fantasy X-2, Enter the Matrix, Medal of Honor: Rising Sun, SSX 3, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, Soulcalibur III, Ratchet & Clank: Going Commando, Tony Hawk’s Underground, Need for Speed: Underground, Jak II, SOCOM II: U.S. Navy Seals, True Crime: Streets of LA, Silent Hill 3, Manhunt, Sonic Heroes, and many other great games. It was the heart of the PS2 generation, and a great year for the console.

In 2003, on the PS2, PS1 series Legacy of Kain also came to an end with the fifth and final game in the series: Legacy of Kain: Defiance. And it looks like this PS2 exclusive is following its predecessors to PS4 and PS5 and to a release in PS Plus Premium.

Right now, there is no official announcement, but Legacy of Kain: Defiance has been rated on PS4 and PS5 in Taiwan, and unless this is an error, this is because it was submitted for rating on release in PS4 and PS5. For those that don’t know, the Taiwanese rating board has a long history of leaking games and releases, and so while it is possible this is a mistake, what is far more likely is that this is simply another example of this, especially given all the context.

If this is what it looks like, then Legacy of Kain: Defiance, in the near future, will be added to PS Plus Premium and released for a standalone purchase on the PlayStation Store.

As for the game itself, Legacy of Kain: Defiance is a Crystal Dynamics release. For those that don’t know, this is the studio best known for the Tomb Raider series. Upon release, the PS2 game garnered a 75 on Metacritic and seemingly sold softly, or at least that’s what the lack of continuation of the series suggests.

At the moment of publishing none of the implicated parties have commented on any of this. If this changes, we will update the story accordingly. The most pre-ordered PS5 game on the PlayStation Store right now is an upcoming Xbox game. The Xbox game in question is beating out other highly pre-ordered games such as Madden NFL 26, College Football 26, Ready or Not, and Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4. It is even beating this months huge PlayStation 5 exclusive, Death Stranding 2. That said, while this is another example of why Xbox is increasingly putting all of its bets on mutli-platform publishing, there is a good explanation that explains why this Xbox game is being pre-ordered en masse.

The Xbox game in question — the most pre-ordered PS5 game on the PlayStation Store right now — is Gears of War: Reloaded, the upcoming remaster of Gears of War coming to PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X on August 26, priced at $40.

This is going to mark the first time Gears of War is available on any PlayStation console, so this alone makes the release noteworthy and novel for PS5 users. And this is no doubt driving many pre-orders. Gears of War: Reloaded is going to sell very well on PS5. However, its pre-order numbers are inflated because of the ongoing beta, scheduled to end today, required PS5 users to pre-order the game to earn admission. This is no doubt greatly inflating the numbers, and in turn will reduce sales at launch and after launch.

That said, this is not the first Xbox release this year to find great success on the PS5. Whether it is Forza Horizon 5 or Sea of Thieves, Xbox games on PS5 have been finding great success. Gears of War: Reloaded will be the next example, but not the final example.

Technically, Xbox has two games in the top 10 most pre-ordered PS5 games on the PlayStation Store, as the aforementioned Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 is an Activision release, and Xbox owns Activision. Meanwhile, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 +4 is not above Death Stranding 2 in pre-orders, but it is ahead of 2025’s other noteworthy exclusive: Ghost of Yotei. Whether this is the result of Ghost of Yotei simply being further out or indicative of not a ton of demand for the upcoming sequel, remains to be seen.

PlayStation fans are very excited and very surprised by the announcement of a new PS1 remake, calling it the “best news this year.” Obviously, the PS1 is a very nostalgic console for many PlayStation fans as the very first PlayStation console. Those who were gaming on the PS1 back in 1999 will specifically remember titles such as Chrono Cross, Gran Turismo 2, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, Crash Team Racing, Medal of Honor, Resident Evil 3, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver, Final Fantasy VIII, Ape Escape, Syphon Filter, Wipeout 3, Driver, Dino Crisis, Silent Hill, and many more great games in what was a hallmark year for 90s gaming. And one game — mentioned above — from this classic year for the PS1 is getting a remake.

Right now, details are very scarce on the remake, and there is no word of platforms or a release date, but Konami has confirmed it is working on a remake of the first Silent Hill game following the success of Silent Hill 2 Remake, which was released in 2024 with the help of Bloober Team. As you would expect, the Polish studio has once again been contracted by Konami for this remake of the first game.

While it may seem odd for Silent Hill 2 Remake to get a remake before the first game, it is simply because the second game was and is far more popular. It is also far more accessible.

Silent Hill 2 Remake is notably a PS5 console exclusive, meaning the only other platform it is available on is PC. Whether this will be the case with this new remake, we don’t know, but the original was notably a PS1 exclusive.

Over on the PS5 Reddit page, meanwhile, PlayStation fans are absolutely thrilled with the announcement, which, despite the success of Silent Hill 2 Remake, has caught many by surprise.

“Didn’t expect to see this news dropped today but heck yeah,” writes one PlayStation fan of the news. “Holy **** I can’t believe this! This is my dream remake,” adds a second PlayStation fan.

One PlayStation fan even claims this is the “best news this year.” While this may be a bit hyperbolic for most, the PS5 Reddit page generally agrees with the sentiment. PlayStation fans are really excited for this one, despite the lack of information and the lack of a reveal trailer.

All of that said, and as always, feel free to leave a comment letting us know what you think. Are you excited for a remake of Silent Hill from Bloober Team? Will the Polish studio be able to replicate what it did with Silent Hill 2?

PlayStation Plus users are considering switching to Xbox Game Pass after the latest update from Sony. It has been well documented by many, but Xbox Game Pass has been on fire, particularly with day one games. Some recent examples include The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, DOOM: The Dark Ages, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. And obviously, this has not contrasted with PlayStation Plus well. While the library of PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium keeps pace with the library of Xbox Game Pass, the latter gets many day one games, including some huge releases at release. The same can not be said of PlayStation Plus.

While Xbox Game Pass has had a showcase year, PlayStation Plus has been sluggish lately. And this is completely embodied by June’s PlayStation Plus Extra and PlayStation Plus Premium games. If you missed the June 2025 PS Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium lineup, it is very underwhelming. There is FBC: Firebreak, a day one game for the subscription service, and not much else. The rest of the lineup specifically contains the following games: Battlefield 2042, Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted 2, theHunter: Call of the Wild, We Love Katamari Reroll + Royal Reverie, Eiyuden Chronicles: Hundred Heroes, Train Sim World 5, Endless Dungeon, and Deus Ex: The Conspiracy.

It is a pretty boring lineup for PlayStation Plus, and subscribers are not happy about it. In isolation, the lineup is underwhelming, but it piles onto what has been a largely disappointing year for the subscription service. To this end, some subscribers are considering cancelling and even buying an Xbox, just to get on Xbox Game Pass.

“Genuinely considering getting an Xbox just for Game Pass because what the hell is this,” writes one PlayStation Plus subscriber of the lineup. “WORST month ever,” adds a second subscriber.

A third PlayStation Plus subscriber adds: “Another trash month after a huge pricing increase. Yeah Sony keep doing that soon enough y’all going to lose every subscriber. What a trash month.”

The highlight of the june playstation plus lineup

PlayStation Plus numbers are healthy, so this slow streak for the subscription service doesn’t seem to actually matter much. In contrast, Xbox Game Pass numbers are less healthy and are fairly stagnate, despite everything Microsoft is doing with the subscription service. That certainly says something about the importance of these monthly drops.

One of this year’s best Xbox Game Pass games just came to PS5. Unfortunately, it is not free for PlayStation Plus users, but it only costs $24.99 on the PlayStation Store. And considering the game was previously an Xbox console exclusive, PS5 users will likely just be happy to finally be able to play the game after watching Xbox and PC users enjoy it this year.

Speaking of this year, it has been a big year for Xbox Game Pass, as PS5 users will be painfully aware of. The highlight of this was the run that Xbox Game Pass went on when it added one of 2025’s highest-rated games, Blue Prince, to Xbox Game Pass, followed by The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, Game of the Year frontrunner Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, and then capped by DOOM: The Dark Ages. All of these were day one games for Xbox Game Pass, and they all dropped in back-to-back fashion.

What also dropped during this legendary run for Xbox Game Pass was Crime Scene Cleaner. Crime Scene Cleaner came to Xbox consoles on April 17, and the moment it did so, it was free with Xbox Game Pass. As we noted back in April, while Crime Scene Cleaner didn’t garner the same headlines as the games above, it actually was the most-played game on Xbox Game Pass at one point, with subscribers describing playing the game as an “addiction.”

As of June 13, Crime Scene Cleaner is now on PS5. And it appears PS5 users are enjoying it just as much as Xbox Series X users because it has a 4.78 out of 5 stars on the PlayStation Store.

For those unfamiliar with the game, it actually debuted last year on Steam. Developed by President Studio, it quickly and quietly became a substantial success for the studio, as evident by its 21,036 user reviews on Steam, 97 percent of which are positive.

“Once you get tangled with the mob, you will forever be a part of the mob,” reads an official description of the game on the PlayStation Store. “At least they pay a decent salary and all you have to do is clean up after their dirty work, but you know what you’re doing. So clean crime scenes, earn as much money as you can, and get ready for the next mission.”

Those on PS5 who decide to check out Crime Scene Cleaner now that it is on the PlayStation Store should expect a game that is about 12 to 16 hours long, depending on how much side content is consumed and other variables like playstyle.

A PS2 exclusive game has just been removed from the PlayStation Store, and there are no currently no plans for it to return. The PS2 game in question hails from 2004, one of the great years in video game history. And it comes from one of the great publishers from video game history, Konami, who has delivered the likes of Metal Gear Solid, Silent Hill, Castlevania, Bomberman, Yu-Gi-Oh, Contra, and more over the years. Konami is not as relevant in the games space as it used be though, and the same can be said for many of its series, though not all of them. For example, Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill remain very relevant, and while Konami won’t make a new Castlevania, it remains culturally relevant via the animated Netflix series. Some Konami IP are dormant though, such as Gradius.

Not only is it clear Konami has minimal plans for Gradius, now games in the series are starting to be delisted. More specifically, PlayStation fans no longer have any option to purchase Gradius V digitally. Gradius V is a PS2 exclusive from 2004, however, it was released on the PlayStation Store via the PS3 in 2015. That said, ten years later this version has been removed from the PlayStation Store due to expiring licenses. This means the only way to get your hands on a copy of the game if you haven’t already purchased it is to find a PS2 copy and boot it up with a PS2 console.

According to Konami there are various roadblocks that prohibit it from re-releasing the game, and thus there are currently no plans to return Gradius V to the PlayStation Store. Now, Konami does have the upcoming Gradius Origins releasing on August 7, which is a compilation of games from the series’ past, plus a brand new entry. However, Gradius V is not included in this compilation.

For those unfamiliar with the Gradius V, it was released in 2004 via developer Treasure and publisher Konami as a PS2 exclusive. Upon release, the shoot ’em up garnered an 82 on Metacritic. How well it sold though, remains a mystery.

Unfortunately, delistings like this are increasingly common. Even if a game doesn’t license content, it often has publishing agreements or licenses technology, all of which has an expiration date. It appears Gradius V’s licensing ended after 10 years.

One of the very best PS1 games just got a new update on PS4 and PS5 that makes the classic PlayStation game a little bit better. The PS1 game in question technically hails from 1993, but it did not debut on PS1 until 1996, two years after Sony released the console. In 1996, for those that don’t remember, PS1 users were treated to the likes of Resident Evil, Crash Bandicoot, Tekken 2, Twisted Metal 2, Tomb Raider, Street Fighter Alpha 2, Wipeout 2097, PaRappa the Rapper, Soul Edge, and many more in what was a noteworthy year in video game history. This obviously does not include all the Sega Saturn games, MS-DOS games, nor anything releasing on Nintendo consoles, aka the SNES and Game Boy. And it is not an exhaustive list of noteworthy PS1 games. For example, it is missing Myst.

As you may know, Myst is particularly relevant right now because the PS1 version of the adventure game classic was recently added to PS Plus Premium. Alongside this, it was released for standalone purchase on the PlayStation Store, where it costs $5.99.

As the PlayStation Store notes, this release “is as close to the original version of Myst as you can get.” However, it has been updated with PlayStation Trophies for the very first time. More specifically, Myst now has 21 Trophies for PS4 and PS5 users to earn, including a Platinum Trophy. According to early trophy data, this Platinum Trophy will likely take PS4 and PS5 users around 8 hours to earn.

For those unfamiliar with Myst, it is often lauded as one of the most influential games of all time, and some argue one of the best games of all time. It was released in 1993 by developer Cyan and publisher Broderbund. It is often accredited with helping pioneer the adventure genre and proliferating the CD-ROM drive. Meanwhile, it became and held onto the title of best-selling PC game for nearly a decade. And it holds up fairly well in 2025.

“Few are chosen. Fewer succeed,” reads an official description of the PlayStation Store for those interested in knowing more. “You stumble upon a battered old book and find yourself transported to the island of Myst. As you explore the surreal landscape, you quickly learn that something has gone wrong. Terribly wrong. An ancient betrayal must be unveiled. Secret books concealed on the island of Myst lead the way to incredible worlds born of a master storyteller’s imagination. Yet one by one, they’re being destroyed through the treachery of his sons. But which one? Only your wits and imagination will serve to untangle the web of lies and deceit that shrouds the worlds of Myst.”

Astro Bot has proven to be not only one of Sony’s most successful games but one of the most successful games of all time, at least critically speaking. Following its launch and numerous rewards, PlayStation’s CEO Hermen Hulst shared the studio’s intent to grow Astro Bot into “an enduring and iconic franchise for PlayStation,” essentially confirming that fans will see more of the adorable little robot.

This news comes from a video presentation discussing Sony’s earnings report with Hulst. In it, he calls Astro Bot “a smash hit achieving universal acclaim” and goes on to say the title is an “emerging IP” with a bright future. With Astro Bot’s success, it makes complete sense to grow the franchise into a core pillar of Sony’s lineup.

Astro Bot Ghost of Yotei
Astro Bot Ghost of Yotei bot.

Five new levels are already planned to be added to Astro But starting on July 10th, further expanding the number of courses and bots in the game. These include Twin-Frog Trouble, Suck It Up, Handhold Havoc, and high Inflation. The fifth level remains a mystery, but Team Asobi did tease a new bot for Ghost of Yotei. It even teased a new feature upon completing these new Vicious Void levels.

The news that fans can expect more Astro Bot was met with praise, though some hoped it would not lead to a yearly release schedule. Part of Astro Bot’s success was the lengthy development time and attention given to the game. Many hope Sony will simply let Team Asobi do its thing and are perfectly content giving the next game the time it needs.

What are your hopes for the future of Astro Bot? Do you want a new game, or would you prefer more levels added? Let us know in the comments below!

In a pretty surprising turn of events, MindsEye players are being offered rare refunds from PlayStation. MindsEye is one of the big games releasing this summer, but it is failing to impress on just about every level. Although there has been some praise handed to the story, MindsEye has been ravaged by players for its buggy state, lackluster gameplay, and much more. It’s easily one of the most botched releases since Cyberpunk 2077‘s launch and it stings because this is the first new game from former GTA producer/Rockstar North president Leslie Benzies. The game’s poor performance is extremely concerning and it’s unclear what the path forward for this game actually is.

After years in development, MindsEye has less than a thousand people playing it right now on Steam and has only peaked at a little over 3k. It’s hard to imagine the console version is crushing it either, which could indicate a massive commercial failure. With that said, MindsEye is only getting hit harder as players seek refunds. PlayStation is granting refunds to players who request them, which is out of the ordinary. PlayStation historically has a no refund policy once someone has played a game or in very unique circumstances. The last time PlayStation handed out mass refunds like this was for Cyberpunk 2077, which also led to PlayStation taking the game off of its own store for months.

mindseye

This definitely highlights the rough state of MindsEye. Fans expressed concerns prior to release as well after seeing minimal official gameplay and rocky previews, prompting an executive from the developer to claim people were being paid by a competitor to trash MindsEye. Now, the game is out, and it seems like that comment is aging like milk. The MindsEye team has also released a statement to acknowledge the rough launch, noting that it has some patches in the works to improve performance and fine tune certain areas of the game like AI and difficulty.

“We are heartbroken that not every player was able to experience the game as we intended,” reads the statement. “Our priority is optimizing performance and stability so that every player, across every device, can enjoy an equally high-quality experience.

Our teams have worked tirelessly throughout the night to solve many of these issues, and we have now identified that the vast majority of crashes were caused by a memory leak. This impacted roughly 1 in 10 of our players. We have developed a hotfix that addresses this issue (alongside other issues that our players have highlighted), which we are working hard to deploy as soon as tomorrow on PC and on consoles once it passes certification with PlayStation and Xbox.

We are fully committed to ensuring all our players have a great experience, and we will continue to provide frequent and transparent updates. We will do our best to respond to all your comments and feedback. Thank you for playing MindsEye. Thank you for your understanding and continued support – it truly means the world to us. We’re grateful and blessed to have you on the journey with us.”

What are your thoughts on MindsEye? Let me know in the comments.

There are few video game companies with as many dormant or missing franchises as PlayStation. Over more than three decades, Sony has published a significant number of games, many of which haven’t seen a sequel or follow-up in quite some time. However, one of those dormant franchises very nearly made a comeback in an unusual way. In a new interview with Video Games Chronicle, former PlayStation Head of Indies Shuhei Yoshida revealed that a developer requested to use Jumping Flash! as part of a PlayStation VR game. Yoshida did not reveal the developer, or why the game didn’t make it past the early development stages.

“Some developers wanted to license Jumping Flash to develop it into a part of their new VR game,” Yoshida told Video Games Chronicle. “One of the ones that actually happened was that the original creator of Fantavision asked for the license and remade it in VR.”

Jumping flash box art, circa 1995

Jumping Flash! was released on the original PlayStation back in 1995. While the game might not be as well-remembered as many of the other games released on the system, it was a pretty notable release at the time. Debuting a year before Super Mario 64, the game is credited as the first true 3D platformer. Despite this pretty notable achievement, the series has been largely dormant for over two decades now. It would have been interesting to see how this mystery developer was planning to incorporate Jumping Flash! into a VR game, but it’s kind of a moot point, since the project failed to materialize.

Though we won’t be seeing Jumping Flash! anytime soon, PlayStation has clearly opened up to letting outside developers use some of its properties in new games. Besides the example mentioned for Fantavision, a Nintendo Direct earlier this year saw new Patapon and Everybody’s Golf games announced for multiple platforms. It remains to be seen whether PlayStation will similarly license out some of its properties that haven’t seen new games in a while. The company has plenty that would be nice to see again, including franchises like Ape Escape, or Legend of Legaia. If these current projects perform well enough, it’s possible that we could end up seeing more in the future, though that’s just speculation.

At one point, the idea of developers outside of Sony working on PlayStation properties would have been unthinkable. However, in an era where Sony seems a little too busy with major AAA projects like Marvel’s Wolverine and Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, it makes sense that it’s licensing out smaller properties to help keep them alive. Not only is this a way to make existing fans happy, but it’s also a way to help new audiences discover why these games were so popular in the first place. Perhaps Jumping Flash! will get its due one of these days.

PlayStation has revealed the new catalog games for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members. One of the best things about modern gaming is that it’s very easy to play a lot of great games on a budget. Various subscription services allow you access to hundreds of games and although you don’t get to keep them, they’re there for long enough to get some good mileage out of them. Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Plus are really the kings of this, with PlayStation Plus taking some cues from Xbox in recent years by adding tiers to PlayStation Plus and offering a back catalog of games.

With all of that said, PlayStation Plus is constantly offering incredible games to its players. In addition to a handful of free to keep games every month that include all-time classics and new blockbusters, PlayStation also offers a catalog of games that players can select from. This rotating line-up isn’t too dissimilar from something like Netflix. PlayStation has revealed the games that are being added to the service’s catalog for June 2025. These are only accessible through the Extra and Premium tiers of PlayStation Plus, so make sure you upgrade if you haven’t already to take advantage of these games!

PlayStation Plus Premium and Extra Catalog Games for June 2025

battlefield 2042

This month’s additions are pretty solid. Battlefield 2042 is joining the line-up ahead of the summer reveal for Battlefield 6. This should hopefully get fans in the mood for the future of the series, which is expected to release sometime between now and next spring, though a fall release seems most likely. Remedy’s brand new shooter set in the Control universe, FBC: Firebreak, is also coming to the service on day one. The new game is a co-op shooter, so gather all of your friends and check this one out.

Horror fans can check out a new Five Nights at Freddy’s game, hunting enthusiasts will get access to theHunter: Call of the Wild, and those looking to dig into an old-school classic can check out Deus Ex: The Conspiracy, a PS2 port of the iconic sci-fi RPG. All in all, it’s a pretty great selection of games. You can check out the full list with their respective platforms below.

  • FBC: Firebreak – PS5
  • Battlefield 2042 – PS4, PS5
  • Five Nights at Freddy’s: Help Wanted 2 – PS5
  • theHunter: Call of the Wild – PS4
  • We Love Katamari Reroll + Royal Reverie – PS4, PS5
  • Eiyuden Chronicles: Hundred Heroes – PS4, PS5
  • Train Sim World 5 – PS4, PS5

The team behind Days Gone, Bend Studio, has laid off a significant amount of staff following the cancellation of a live-service game. PlayStation had one of the best generations in the history of gaming with the PS4. The hardware was great, it was affordable, and the games were non-stop. It created a lot of momentum going into the PS5 generation, something that really helped the console in its early days. However, there has been a severe lack of big first party releases from PlayStation this generation. Third-party exclusives like Final Fantasy have done a lot of heavy lifting, but fans long for new games from Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, and more.

Unfortunately, a lot of big games have been cancelled this year. A new online-based God of War game was scrapped sometime last year, Concord was released but killed off in a matter of days, and that has prompted a larger feeling of dissatisfaction with PlayStation among fans. Games are being killed left and right, therefore hurting the overall output. Even Death Stranding 2 isn’t really a first-party game since Kojima Productions is independent and the first game made its way to Xbox five years later, so it stands to reason that the second one might as well in the future.

With that said, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier has reported that Bend Studio is laying off 30% of its staff which amounts to around 40 people. This comes following the cancellation of a live service game from the studio earlier this year. The studio is spinning up production on a brand new game, though there are no details on what that might be. Bend has been in a perilous situation for a while now as it released Days Gone back in 2019 after a lengthy development cycle and it failed to meet expectations. While it has grown in popularity since its release, PlayStation seemingly has no interest in continuing that franchise with new games.

Sony's Bend studio, which canceled a live-service game earlier this year, is laying off 30% of staff today (around 40 people), Bloomberg News has learned. The studio has been spinning up a new project following the cancellation.

Jason Schreier (@jasonschreier.bsky.social) 2025-06-10T18:12:01.815Z

Bend was reportedly working on a new Uncharted after Days Gone, but that project also got canned. Perhaps enough time has passed that Days Gone 2 could finally materialize, but it seems unlikely. Key members of that game’s team are now gone and it may just not be in the cards, despite hopes for fans. Whether or not Bend goes on to make another new IP or takes the reigns on another PlayStation franchise, as it has done before, remains to be seen.

Art the Clown is getting his very own dedicated video game this year. It’s a first for the antagonist of the Terrifier franchise, but it doesn’t have a release date just yet. Thankfully, players will get a chance to try it a little bit early, as Relevo and Selecta Play have released a free trailer for the game on multiple platforms. Announced last October, Terrifier: The ARTcade Game is an old-school arcade inspired brawler that puts players in the role of the infamous clown. The game will allow players to team up to unleash the chaos with up to three other characters spanning the horror series.

At this time, the demo for Terrifier: The ARTcade Game seems to be available exclusively on Steam and the PlayStation Store. The demo is supposed to be released on Nintendo Switch as well, but it has not gone live, as of this writing. Hopefully that will be rectified soon, so fans of the Terrifier series can get a chance to see what the game has to offer. A trailer for the demo can be found below.

This demo should offer a chance for fans of the movies to see if Terrifier: The ARTcade is the kind of thing they’re looking for. There’s been a big resurgence in arcade inspired brawlers over the last few years, thanks to recent success stories like Streets of Rage 4 and the excellent Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge. However, Art the Clown seems like an unusual fit for the genre. Fans of the Terrifier movies probably would have preferred a straight up horror game like Alien: Isolation, or an asymmetrical multiplayer option like The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Still, if the game is fun and features enough callbacks to the movies, it could be a success.

From everything shown thus far, it seems like Relevo has done an excellent job at least channeling various aspects of the movies. The trademark violence is clearly intact, as attacks deliver buckets of blood. The developers have also managed to pick a cast of different playable characters that come directly from the movies. In addition to making Art playable, Relevo brought in his sidekick, Vicky. The game has also made the Little Pale Girl playable, as well as Adam Burke (Chris Jericho’s character). It’s a pretty strong group of characters from the Terrifier franchise, and it shouldn’t make anyone feel left out if they don’t get to play as the classic clown.

Terrifier: The ARTcade Game will be getting both a digital version as well as a physical release. A collector’s edition will be offered, which includes several bonuses based on the movies. These extras will include an art book, stickers, poster, soundtrack, and more. Preorders for the physical release are open now.

Are you excited about Terrifier: The ARTcade Game? Do you plan on trying out the game’s demo? Share your thoughts with me directly on Bluesky at @Marcdachamp, or on Instagram at @Dachampgaming!

Xbox’s new handheld device will be able to play PlayStation games. The console wars have been running rampant for decades now, but there have been some major changes this past generation. We’ve begun to see more platform holders like Xbox and PlayStation putting their games on other platforms. PlayStation has supported PC, but has also experimented with Nintendo Switch with LEGO Horizon Adventures. It seems like PlayStation’s primary focus is its own consoles and PC, but Xbox is taking a very different approach. Xbox is putting its games pretty much everywhere, including PlayStation and Nintendo Switch. It’s a huge departure from how platform holders typically operate, but a move that may be absolutely necessary.

With all of that said, some Xbox fans are upset that this isn’t more transactional. PlayStation fans are eating good and getting a lot of great Xbox games like Gears of War, but Xbox fans aren’t getting the same thing in return. MLB The Show is the closest thing they’ve got, but that was a decision made by MLB itself and less so PlayStation. However, the tides may be turning in some way. There have been some rumors that the next Xbox console will feature Steam in some capacity, potentially allowing Xbox players the chance to play PlayStation games on Xbox. Although we still likely have a few years to go before that happens, another alternative is coming.

At Xbox’s summer showcase, the company announced an Xbox handheld in partnership with ASUS. The two companies are coming together to make an Xbox version of its ROG Ally handheld which has been competing with Steam Deck for some time now. This will allow users to have a PC handheld that natively runs Xbox PC/Play Anywhere games, utilize Xbox Game Pass, and be connected to the Xbox ecosystem.

However, it can also run Steam and other PC platforms like Epic Games Store. It’s a very versatile device. YouTuber Destin Legarie got to go hands-on with the device and confirmed that he was able to install PlayStation’s Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales from his Steam library on the device. This means you should be able to download other PlayStation games on PC such as The Last of Us and God of War. This shouldn’t come as a surprise to those who are familiar with these kinds of devices, but it does indicate that Xbox is doing a lot to make itself available everywhere and connect all these gaming ecosystems as much as possible.

PlayStation has made a lot of its best games available on PC, though there are some games and franchises that have yet to make the jump. This could be the start of something really interesting if Xbox continues down this path and does manage to get Steam running on its next console.

What do you think of this? Let me know in the comments.

On the PlayStation Store, a AAA PlayStation 5 game has been discounted by $60 for a limited time. This means the PS5 game is on sale for $9.09 rather than $69.99. This is thanks to a massive 87% discount that is live until June 12. Consequently, this is the cheapest the PS5 game has ever been available on the PlayStation Store. In fact, this is the cheapest the game has ever been on PS5 anywhere, however, it has been cheaper on Xbox consoles and Steam in the past.

The new PlayStation Store deal is specifically for The Quarry, an interactive horror drama game that was released in 2022 by Supermassive Games and 2K. For those not familiar with the former, they are the studio behind, most notably, Until Dawn. To this end, The Quarry is a spiritual successor to the 2015 PS4 exclusive.

Released for PS5 and other platforms in 2022, The Quarry garnered Metacritic scores in the 70s when it was released. Critically, the game fared a little worse compared to its consumer reception. For example, on the PlayStation Store it has a 4.26 out 5 after more than 14,000 reviews. Meanwhile, on Steam it has an 82% approval rating after more than 11,000 user reviews.

“As the sun sets on the last day of summer camp, the counselors of Hackett’s Quarry throw a party to celebrate. Things quickly take a turn for the worse,” reads an official description of the game on the PS Store, for those unfamiliar with it. “Hunted by blood-drenched locals and something far more sinister, the teens’ party plans unravel into an unpredictable night of horror. Play as each of the nine counselors in a thrilling cinematic tale, where every decision shapes your story.”

Those on PS5 that decide to trigger this deal and grab The Quarry for less than $10 should expect a game that is about 9 to 11 hours. However, those that want to 100% the game will need to play it more than once and put in closer to 30 to 35 hours with the horror game. Meanwhile, as typical with a horror game, PlayStation fans should also prepare for a “M” for “Mature” rating.

Those on PS5 Pro will be able to enjoy The Quarry but not with any type of PS5 Pro enhancements or if there are any, the game’s PlayStation Store listing makes no mention of any PS5 Pro upgrades.

Resident Evil 9 is real and it’ll bring players back to a Raccoon City in a prominent role. The Resident Evil franchise has come along way since it began as a very intimate survival horror game in the 90s. The last two games have been incredibly atmospheric first-person horror games, but with very different feels. Resident Evil 7 served as a soft-reboot of sorts, having minimal connections to the larger Resident Evil universe before adding in a cameo from Chris Redfield at the end of the game. It was much more survival horror focused and clearly pulled from games like Outlast and PT for its scares.

Resident Evil 8, on the other hand, had a lot more action in it. It still managed to balance the horror, even going as far as adding other threats like vampires and werewolves. Although Resident Evil is historically known as a zombie series, these two games strayed away from the zombie stuff quite a lot. Rumors of Resident Evil 9 have been circulating for years and it’s finally being revealed by Capcom.

Resident Evil 9 is real and it’s coming in 2026 under the title of Resident Evil Requiem. The new game was just revealed at the PlayStation State of Play and debunks rumors that players will once again play as Leon Kennedy. The last time Leon was a playable character (outside of any remakes) was in Resident Evil 6, which was well over a decade ago. Although Ethan Winters was the protagonist of the last two games, he met a tragic fate at the end of Resident Evil 8. Chris Redfield was also playable in both games, both in DLC and the main story for Village. However, this time, we play as what appears to be Alyssa Ashcroft’s daughter, Grace.

It’s rumored that Resident Evil 9 will conclude this trilogy of games and potentially even end the numbered entries of the franchise. It’s unclear what’s next for Resident Evil beyond more remakes, but it seems like Resident Evil 9 will likely be a massive hit and give fans the survival horror game they’ve been waiting for. Players will return to a post-nuke Raccoon City as Grace Ashcroft, seemingly investigating a series of dead bodies that are plagued by a mysterious force. As of right now, any other plot details remain unclear, but it looks incredibly spooky and like it will be a ton of fun to play.

Resident Evil Requiem will release on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC on February 27th, 2026.

In 2014, Infamous First Light, a standalone expansion of 2014’s Infamous Second Son, which it also serves as a prequel to, was released. Since then, there has been nothing. Meanwhile, Sucker Punch Productions — the studio responsible for the series — has moved on to Ghost of Tsushima and now Ghost of Yotei. When the latter releases later this year though, what will Sucker Punch turn to next? Well, some PlayStation fans hope it and Sony will revive Infamous.

Recently, Infamous Second Son was removed from PlayStation Plus Extra and PS Plus Premium, which is odd because it is a Sony game. It costs nothing for Infamous Second Son to be on PS Plus. In fact, the 11-year-old PS4 game is not even available on PS5, so it’s safe to assume not many copies of the game are being sold anymore. Yet, it has been removed from PS Plus.

Not only is all of this odd, but there is some interesting precedent to consider. For example, Horizon Zero Dawn was removed from PS Plus before Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered was announced. To this end, is Sony preparing to announce an Infamous Second Son remaster for PS5? That is the speculation that has gripped some PlayStation fans.

For those unfamiliar with the Infamous series, it is an action-adventure series that got its start on the PS3 back in 2009 with the release of Infamous. Then in 2011, this was followed up by PS3’s Infamous 2. And then in 2013, Infamous: Second Son hit PS4 only a few months after the console released. The three games released to 85, 83, and 80 on Metacritic and all three also boasted decent sales, though none lit the world on fire, as evident by the series’ dormant status.

If Infamous is going to return, it is like going to be via a remaster or a collection re-release rather than a new game. That said, if Ghost of Yotei doesn’t perform as well as Ghost of Tsushima, PlayStation certainly could look to revive the franchise. Right now, Infamous Second Son leaving PlayStation doesn’t quite suggest this, though it is certainly worth taking note of and monitoring.

An upcoming PlayStation 5 console exclusive will be free with PlayStation Plus at day one of release. The free PS5 game will also be available on PC when it launches, but no other console, making it a PS5 console exclusive. Whether it will eventually end up coming to Nintendo Switch 2 or Xbox consoles, remains to be seen, but right now there is no word the game coming to these platforms. Meanwhile, it is set to come to PC and PS5 on August 19, and the moment it releases it will be free with a PS Plus subscription.

The PS5 game in question is called Sword of the Sea, and it is the latest game from developer Giant Squid Studio, the developer behind 2016’s Abzu and 2020’s The Pathless. As you may remember, the latter was notably a PS5 launch game, and a console exclusive when it released. Similarly, Abzu was a PS4 console exclusive when it released. So there is precedent here. To this end, there is also precedent of both games eventually coming to other console platforms as well.

Sword of the Sea was first announced back in 2023, but the release date has only now been revealed. There was also no word previously of it being a PS Plus day one game.

“From the visionary artist behind ABZU, The Pathless, and Journey,” reads an official description of the game for those unfamiliar with it. “Surf across the surreal undulating landscapes of the Necropolis on a quest to unveil a lost ocean teeming with life in Sword of the Sea. In a world where the terrain flows in waves, ride a hovering sword to speed over shifting seas of sand, magma, and ice. Build momentum to achieve great speeds and catch big air as you explore skatepark-like ruins, lost in the tides of the Necropolis. Your quest is to unveil the ancient sea buried beneath the land.”

“It’s Journey meets Abzu and your on a snowboard. With music by Austin Wintory. Instant buy,” reads a comment on the new trailer above. “I swear, this will become a new entry in my top 5 favorite games of all time,” reads another comment.

The PlayStation Store‘s 2025 “Summer Game Fest” sale is yet another big summer sale. However, this one is tied to the annual Summer Game Fest season, where publishers and developers showcase their upcoming titles. Not all of the games in this sale are related to an announcement from the show, but a discount is a discount.

Here are 10 of the best sales in the “Summer Game Fest” on the PlayStation Store. All sales are live until June 18th at 11:59 PM PT.

1) Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Complete Edition

Price: $35.99 / $59.99

Team Ninja just announced its next game, Nioh 3, but now is still a great time to get into one of its recent games, Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty. This action Soulslike has a lot in common with the Nioh series in that both are fast titles with stunningly smooth controls, climactic boss fights, and shockingly bad stories.

Thankfully, only the action matters here. Wo Long differentiates itself from Nioh, though, through its parry mechanic that the whole game is built around. Getting into that rhythm is as hypnotic as it is rewarding, and that continues to its DLC, all of which is included in this version. It may adhere too closely to Team Ninja’s formula and have too much loot, but it’s still an incredible action game in a crowded genre.

2) Lies of P

Price: $29.99 / $59.99

Lies of P is also like Wo Long in that it excels in the crowded genre, but Lies of P goes one step above by innovating and creating an intoxicating world full of semi-familiar lore that’s been twisted to make something almost entirely new. Lies of P is also heavy on the parries, however, it is more demanding. Its responsive controls can handle that weight, though, and lead to some of the most challenging and satisfying boss fights in the whole genre. It’s also set to get a big update that will add difficulty modes and boss rush modes alongside its upcoming promising expansion, Overture, which makes now a great time to jump in.

3) Synapse

Price: $19.24 or $15.74 for PlayStation Plus subscribers / $34.99

Synapse is widely regarded as one of PSVR2’s most impressive titles for a reason. The roguelite structure is simple yet compelling because of its upgrade loop, well-tuned gunplay, and alluring minimalist art style, but the eye-tracking features truly make this a fantastic overall experience. It lets players target items or people merely by looking at them, which opens the door to a specific power fantasy not possible with traditional flat gaming or most VR games. It is one of those titles that has been brilliantly designed around a hardware feature and excels because of it.

4) Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy

Price: $24.99 / $49.99

Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy has, as its title implies, three full games, all of which were lauded for their style, writing, and deduction-based legal gameplay. As was the case with the other Ace Attorney compilations, this remaster includes more modern visuals, as well as an art gallery, jukebox, and an animation studio that lets players create scenes with music, models, voice lines, animations, and music from the game. Capcom has made a ton of well-received compilations over the last few years, and Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy is yet another one in that long line.

5) Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin Digital Deluxe Edition

Price: $23.99 / $59.99

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin is surely a strange Final Fantasy game, but that works to its benefit. It’s got all sorts of wild and humorous scenes that utilize the unique personality of its main meathead character, Jack. But those scenes still play second fiddle to the combat, which also takes advantage of Team Ninja’s expertise in the genre.

Origin plays a lot like Nioh 2 and Wo Long because the three have a nearly identical level-based structure, loot setup, and battle tempo, but Origin differentiates itself with its Job system that both utilizes its Final Fantasy roots and also gives combat a ton of variety. While it’s mainly for those who love action games, it’s also got a few interesting twists for those who intimately know Final Fantasy’s history. This version also comes with all three of its post-launch DLC episodes that include new stories, weapons, abilities, levels, and enemies.

6) Resident Evil 7 Gold Edition & Village Gold Edition

Price: $19.99 / $79.99

Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village are two of Capcom’s standout games in its recent era for obvious reasons. The two pushed the series into new territory by also pushing it into familiar territory. They took the franchise back to its horror roots, but with their own first-person spin. RE7 is more of a horror experience that prioritizes scares and puzzles with some gunplay, while Village goes a little more into action horror territory without losing its Resident Evil flavor. Village even has distinct chapters that focus on different types of Resident Evil horror, too, and are all scary in their own ways. It is impossible to forget about “the baby,” one of the Resident Evil franchise’s scariest parts.

This version also comes with all the substantial DLC. RE7‘s DLC runs the gamut and includes a brutal roguelike, a surprisingly great (and brutal) Saw-like card game, Gerald’s Game-esque escape room, and more. However, the highlight is the more meaty End of Zoe expansion that has players punching the moldy enemies to oblivion; it’s as campy as it sounds. Village‘s DLC includes a third-person mode, added levels for its wave-based survival mode, and the Shadows of Rose expansion that sadly leaves the game on an underwhelming note. Regardless, that doesn’t undo all the masterful work packed into this bundle.

7) Inscryption

Price: $7.99 / $19.99

Inscryption is, on one level, a thrilling, highly replayable deck-building roguelite that is simple to understand yet hard to master. But it is so much more than that because of its strange campaign. Its story mode has plenty of oddball twists and turns that make for an unpredictable game all the way until the credits. There are even real-world levels to its chicanery and are there for those who truly want to go a few levels deeper.

8) Exoprimal

Price: $9.59 / $59.99

Exoprimal is one of those podcast or hangout games, and a decent one at that. Players can squad up with friends across all platforms and blast dinosaurs as they rain down from the sky and wreak havoc. There are multiple classes and items to unlock, which a treadmill-like game like this needs to stay in the rotation. It doesn’t reinvent the genre and it’s not the dinosaur-focused Capcom game that many people want, but that doesn’t negate its qualities as a horde mode cooperative-focused shooter.

9) The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners

Price: $9.99 / $19.99

The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners was one of PSVR’s best titles and that still remains true for PSVR2. It’s got a simple loop — go out and loot nearby areas for supplies in order to survive — but the visceral nature of its controls turns this simple loop into something much greater. Looting has to be done by physically pilfering through drawers and boxes, while combat relies on the player’s ability to manage resources and act gracefully under pressure. It’s also just purely satisfying to grab a zombie’s cheek a jam a screwdriver in its forehead. The unacceptably glitchy sequel loses sight of these strengths and should be avoided, but that doesn’t diminish how tense the first Saints & Sinners is.

10) Just Cause 4: Reloaded

Price: $5.99 / $39.99

Square Enix doesn’t seem too into making another Just Cause, so it’s great that the series went out (for now, at least) on its best entry. Just Cause 4 is an explosive open-world game that prioritizes high-octane action and ridiculous stunts.

Players are encouraged to blow things up in all sorts of ways and are given the tools to be creative. This comes in the form of being able to surf on vehicles and their varied armory, but also in the form of its boosters that let players manipulate the items in the world in clever and often hilarious ways. For example, you can strap a ton of boosters and balloons on a tank to make a flying tank or wingsuit or grapple over to an enemy aircraft, put a few balloons on it, glide away, and watch the whole thing spiral into the dirt. There are a ton of open-world games, but few are quite as open as Just Cause 4.

The June 2025 PlayStation State of Play was filled with tons of announcements for PS5 and PS4 players. During the presentation, Sony revealed some of the upcoming PlayStation Plus Classics Catalog additions for the coming months. Fans of the PS1 will be happy to hear that four of these new additions will be from Sony’s first video game console. More importantly, they are from two of the console’s most iconic franchises.

The first two PS1 Classics Catalog additions are from the cult-classic vehicular combat series, Twisted Metal. Specifically, Twisted Metal 3 and Twisted Metal 4 will crash their way onto the PS Plus perk on July 15th. This is perfect for fans, as the second season of Peacock’s Twisted Metal show begins on July 31st. The second two additions are from the beloved Resident Evil series. The fan-favorite entries, Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3, will haunt tons of PS Plus Premium subscribers when it comes to the Classics Catalog later this summer.

It should be noted that the Classics Catalog is only available to PS Plus Premium subscribers. This should not be confused with the Game Catalog, which is available to both Extra and Premium subscribers and only includes modern PS4 and PS5 games.

This was not the only classic PlayStation game announced for the PS Plus Classics Catalog. During the presentation, it was also announced that the 2002 PS2 sci-fi RPG, Deus Ex: The Conspiracy, would be added. Players will not have to wait long to play the series’ first entry on modern consoles. It will be added to the Classics Catalog on June 17th.

Here are descriptions for each of the upcoming PS1 Classics Catalog additions:

Twisted Metal 3

Synopsis: “Welcome to our twisted world where the drivers are insane, the explosions apocalyptic and the weapons hard-core nasty. It’s the original and ultimate automotive combat experience!”

Twisted Metal 4

Synopsis: “High-octane attitude with a twist. Sweet Tooth and his pumped-up posse of evil henchmen have taken control of the most explosive freakshow on wheels.”

Resident Evil 2

Synopsis: “2 Separate Adventures! Command Leon Kennedy, a rookie cop who stumbles onto the carnage reporting for his first duty, or play as Claire Redfield, desperately searching for her missing brother.”

Resident Evil 3

Synopsis: “Join Jill Valentine, the heroine and amazing survivor of the notorious disaster at the mansion, as her nightmare continues. After resigning from S.T.A.R.S. Jill now prepares to head out of Raccoon City…but it’s not going to be easy. Caught in a town crawling with flesh eating zombies, more than ever she must rely on brute force and cunning to find a way to escape alive. This unique adventure intricately reveals more of Umbrella Corporation’s nightmarish plot and picks up just hours before the events from Resident Evil 2.”

The June 2025 PlayStation State of Play was one of the most thrilling streams PlayStation has done in recent memory. It had a fantastic balance of new announcements and news on previously revealed titles, both of which covered a variety of genres. This broad spread ensured there was something for everyone.

And while there were many more than 10, here are the 10 best announcements from the State of Play, ranked.

10) Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow

PlayStation has ostensibly given up on PSVR2, but it still receives a healthy, if underadvertised, stream of indie and third-party games on a regular basis. Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow is one of the bigger profile titles coming as a part of this stream and is, at least conceptually, a compelling way to bring back this aging franchise.

Being able to physically blow out candles, manually search paintings for switches, pilfer through pockets, and pick locks are all inherently intimate actions touched on in the trailer that seem like a great fit for VR. It didn’t feel like the token VR game in the stream. Instead, it used its VR-specific features to differentiate itself from all the other titles.

9) Tides of Tomorrow

Tides of Tomorrow had one of the more novel ideas of the whole show: What if a game could tell an asynchronous story that changed because of other players? It’s a unique concept that the trailer explores well by showcasing alternate branches, all while taking place in a vibrant yet doomed world plagued by unfettered climate change. Developer DigixArt experimented with narrative in Road 96, which mixed roguelike elements into an adventure game, and stumbled a bit along the way. It remains to be seen how Tides of Tomorrow will fare with an even more ambitious goal, but it at least made for an interesting trailer that dared to be a little different.

8) Pragmata

Pragmata has been in hibernation for a long time, but it awoke from that slumber in a rather impressive way. This new title seemed to have traces of The Last of Us and a character action game filtered through a Hideo Kojima-like lens, but brought those elements together in a way that didn’t look derivative. Capcom has been on a hot streak, so while it’s easy to be a little cautious about a game that centers on a potentially annoying child, the publisher has earned the benefit of the doubt here.

7) Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles

Final Fantasy Tactics is a beloved game that’s hard to play now since it’s locked to the PS1 and PSP with no official digital version to speak of. This pent-up demand made the announcement of Final Fantasy Tactics – The Ivalice Chronicles even more special. Its impact was greater because it wasn’t just a simple port, either. Not only does it include the original (with new auto-save support), but it also comes with an enhanced version with voiced dialogue, an “optimized and updated UI,” visual upgrades, and a new, easier difficulty aimed at beginners.

6) Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection

Mortal Kombat seems like it is finally getting the collection that it deserves with Mortal Kombat: Legacy Kollection. Developer Digital Eclipse is known for its thorough interactive documentaries, as seen in games like Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection, The Making of KaratekaAtari 50: The Anniversary Celebration, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Cowabunga Collection, so it is a perfect fit for a team tasked with delving into Mortal Kombat’s important history.

The Mortal Kombat story has been told quite often over the last few decades, but hearing it within the context of a playable collection is extra promising. Making all of these games more accessible is also a huge boon since almost all of them are unplayable on modern hardware, and having multiple versions of each and rollback netcode only makes these titles more appealing. It seemed like Mortal Kombat was never going to get remastered in a respectful way, which is what makes this announcement even more appreciated.

5) Romeo Is a Dead Man

Grasshopper Manufacture sure knows how to stick out in a crowd. Romeo Is a Dead Man‘s Adult Swim-like opening and the subsequent gonzo gameplay that followed screamed Suda51 before his name even hit the screen. The fountains of blood and bizarre tone starring a character with a made-for-stardom name, Romeo Stargazer, seem to be in line with the studio’s past titles. Those titles haven’t always had the smoothest gameplay or the most coherent narratives, but they’re usually worth appreciating for their one-of-a-kind styles, something this trailer had in spades.

4) Nioh 3

In a world awash with a ton of soulslikes, there’s always room for more Nioh. Nioh 3 is a sizeable visual improvement over the last title and offers multiple gameplay stances that allowed the trailer to have many well-choreographed action scenes. It seems like a fairly standard reveal, but the surprise demo drop gave Nioh 3 an edge.

It’s a fairly substantial preview of a game that’s a little far from release, but it gave context to what the trailer hinted at. The Ninja and Samurai stances have a lot of potential since they allow for playstyle swaps on the fly, and the new, more open areas — perhaps inspired by Rise of the Ronin — imply it’ll have a slightly different formula. The difficulties of making a limited demo understandably make this a tough ask, but it’s a welcome practice that can greatly benefit a reveal.

3) Lumines Arise

Lumines was inspired by Tetris, so it was only fitting for some of the minds behind Tetris Effect to make another Lumines game. Lumines Arise seems to have taken quite a page out of the 2018 puzzler’s book, as the trailer showcased similar vibrant visuals and easygoing pop tunes. The audiovisual experience was quite beneficial to Tetris’ hypnotic gameplay, and it’s almost assuredly going to benefit Lumines in the same way. Being the first reveal set the tone since it was unexpected and a new twist on a series that hasn’t received a full new entry in some time.

2) 007 First Light

IO Interactive has only released Hitman games for the past 15 years, so it’s hard to imagine the team doing something different. 007 First Light assuaged those fears of IO perhaps branching out too far with a well-paced, bombastic trailer with memorable moment after memorable moment.

However, what truly stuck out was how much IO made clear that this was its own rendition of James Bond. Delving more into his backstory and making him the youngest Bond ever are enticing choices that make a statement, one that screams he won’t just be a Sean Connery or Pierce Brosnan rip-off. It had a whole host of gameplay styles — fighting, shooting, driving, and sneaking — so it remains to be seen how all of these will come together, but this trailer did inspire confidence that things are on the right track.

1) Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls

This is how you end a show. Not only was Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls a complete surprise, it had gameplay and looked jaw-droppingly amazing. The vibrant art, exaggerated animations, and frenetic action were a visual treat that never stopped being impressive as each new character exploded onto the scene.

These unique designs highlighted Arc System Works’ style, which the following behind-the-scenes footage dove into. Having a more chibi version of Ms. Marvel and a sentai-esque Iron Man were promising indicators of what’s to come. It may not fill the void Marvel vs. Capcom left, but Arc System Works made one hell of an argument why it deserves to be the team making a tag-based Marvel fighting game.

After months of silence, Sony is finally ready to talk about what’s in store for the PS5 in the coming months during its new PlayStation State of Play live stream. The event, which is set to take place today, June 4th, will be only the second State of Play to transpire in 2025 (not counting April’s stream dedicated entirely to Borderlands 4). As such, there should be plenty of major announcements made during this new State of Play that will let PlayStation fans know more about what’s heading to PS5 not only in 2025, but perhaps 2026 and beyond.

Per usual, this State of Play for June 2025 is set to stream across YouTube and Twitch. Sony hasn’t confirmed any games that will appear during the presentation, but it is known to last a little over 40 minutes in total.

Just in time for all of the big events like Summer Game Fest and Xbox Games Showcase, PlayStation jwill hold its own presentation today, June 4th, in the form of its Nintendo Direct-style State of Play. Obviously, this means that we will see some exciting news regarding PlayStation’s upcoming lineup, as well as some third-party announcements and reveals. There’s a lot going on this week, so we at ComicBook have got you covered on what you need to know in order to watch the upcoming State of Play, alongside what you can expect from the showcase.

How to Watch Today’s New PlayStation State of Play

PlayStation’s next State of Play will premiere on Wednesday, June 4th, at 2 pm PT/ 5 pm ET. To find when the event is happening for you in your time zone, use the link here. June 4th’s State of Play will be livestreamed on YouTube and Twitch. The showcase, as stated by PlayStation in its blog, will last over 40 minutes and be focused on PlayStation 5 games. With past State of Plays, they usually run for around 35-45 minutes, with the previous flagship one (not the recent Borderlands 4-focused one) clocking at 46 minutes.

What to Expect at June 4th’s PlayStation State of Play

Sucker punch’s ghost of Yotei seems likely to show up in june 4th’s State of Play.

While it doesn’t specify if first-party games will be in attendance, it seems quite likely that we’ll see Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Yōtei, which is scheduled to release on October 2, 2025. We have seen bits and pieces of gameplay, so the new State of Play would be a great place to show off more of the sequel to the 2020 samurai epic Ghost of Tsushima. In the case of other first-party titles, Bungie’s Marathon, Housemarque’s Saros, Naughty Dog’s Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, and Insomniac’s Marvel’s Wolverine could make an appearance, though Marathon, given its September release, will be the most likely.

When it comes to third-party games, we can expect some exclusives to get some time to show off, like the recently delayed Lost Soul Aside and Ballad of Antara. It also wouldn’t be surprising for more titles to be announced as exclusives, as the showcase plans to highlight creators and studios across the world. In the last general State of Play, reveals for The Midnight Walk, Hell is Us, Onimusha: Way of the Sword, and Borderlands 4 were shown off. While it may be hard to pinpoint what will be revealed for certain given the upcoming Summer Game Fest and Xbox Games Showcase, we can definitely expect some exciting reveals and announcements in its over 40-minute runtime.
