July 2025’s first big release is out this week, on July 2, and ahead of this release date the PC game has been Verified on Steam Deck. Verified, for those that don’t know, means Valve has tested the game on the handheld machine, and can confirm it is both fully playable and functional on Steam Deck. This means it works great with the built-in display and controls, and requires no settings configuring on the user front.

As for the Steam game in question, it is Mecha Break from Amazing Seasun Games. The multiplayer third-person shooter has been earning lots of attention and anticipation in its pre-release period, and looks poised to be perhaps the biggest Steam release of the month. And the moment it releases it will be available for Steam Deck users to enjoy and enjoy knowing it has been tested by Valve.

“After the Catastrophe, humanity harnassed the power of Corite — a mysterious carbon-silicon mineral driving rapid technological recovery,” reads an official description of the game for those unfamiliar with it. “But its pathogenic nature and relentless spread threaten to consume Earth’s last habitable spaces. In just decades, Corite is projected to engulf the globe. Humanity must find a way to preserve civilization before the countdown reaches zero. Resist. Adapt. Escape. Or follow Corite’s call and forge a new path. Uncover the secrets of Corite and fight for the future! Join S.H.A.D.O.W., pilot third-generation BREAK Strikers, and deploy now!”

The game’s official Steam description continues: “Choose your mecha—assault, melee, sniper, reconnaissance, or support. Battle at breakneck speed across three action-packed modes: Ace Arena (3v3), Operation VERGE (6v6), and Operation STORM (PvPvE). Dodge beams, weave through explosions, and dominate the battlefield!”

Mecha Break is set to be the sophomore release of Amazing Seasun Games, at least on Steam. Previously, the studio put out Snowbreak: Containment Zone in 2023. And like this game, Mecha Break is going to be free-to-play. That said, Mecha Break looks poised to be far more popular than its 2023 predecessor based on beta numbers and Internet anticipation.

You don’t always have to spend a pretty penny if you want to be scared or inspired. Free horror games may act as a passion project for the developer or a good place to start as they’re learning the ropes to game design, testing the water on any brave folk willing to take a dip. These short tales may seem incomplete, rushed, or unpolished, but some stand out for their storytelling and terrifying delivery.

Yes, these horror games may be on the shorter side, but they cost no money and don’t take much of your time to complete. Win-win! Here are the very best free horror games on Steam which have suspense, jump scares, good atmosphere, great sound design, and the occasional but unforgettable dark theme that has lasting effects.

1) Clap Clap

It may have a ridiculous name, but this short horror is effective with its simple design. The PS1-style aesthetics matched with the sound and light design allow it to focus on what truly matters: scaring you. Putting a horror spin on the very real and pretentious clapping to turn indoor lights on feature, the entity in Clap Clap uses the darkness against you, giving you something to fear and putting the control in its hands. It is an easy game to pick up, enjoy, and shouldn’t terrify you aside from a few jump scares and an intense climax.

2) Cry of Fear

This legendary indie horror won’t ever be forgotten for its immersive world and narrative, delivered in a Half-Life mod. Feeling panic, lost, and hopeless is an awful concoction that’s often felt throughout Cry of Fear as you’re transported to a nightmarish realm, having to deal with demons, while navigating around your own. It’s a mix of Silent Hill and Condemned, but holds tightly onto its own identity for its intricate level and terrifying sound design, enemy variety, puzzles, and morbid storytelling.

3) Discussion Over Dinner

This anxiety simulator coerces you into dinner with the creepiest host alive, for refusing him in any way will result in your demise. Surviving the evening takes the perfect balance of eating your steak, holding conversation, and swiping starving rats off the dinner table. Ignore the screams coming from the basement door, or you’ll be next. Discussion Over Dinner may be basic in its art design and storytelling, but this bite-sized horror will surely make you squirm and knock out any social confidence you might have had. It’s a dinner you’ll never forget.

4) Doki Doki Literature Club!

A visual novel romance on paper, there’s something far more sinister lurking under the aesthetically pleasing surface. Having a normal school life isn’t on the agenda for choosing your girlfriend takes precedent, and the wrong choice could get a girl killed. So what’s a hormonal kid gotta do? A twisted take on the slice of life genre, Doki Doki Literature Club shows the limitless power of illustration and anime, being equally beautiful and disturbing. It’s clever horror delivered in an everyday setting, which only makes its contents severely more unsettling.

5) Fears to Fathom – Home Alone

If you’re like me, the fear of someone breaking into your home is far scarier than any demon or ghost. Home Alone, the first in the Fears to Fathom series, is a bite-sized horror for anyone to pick up. The storytelling in this 15-minute game is impressive for its believability as most of the terror is delivered through the device we rely on far too much: our mobile phone. Paranoia and tensions are high in this installment. A figure may walk past the corner of your eye as you’re watching TV, and an image of a stranger surveying the house could send chills down your spine. Are you safe in the very place you call your home?

This short horror demands you face the threat head-on as the only authoritative figure in this neck of the woods that has some semblance of firepower. Where you’d normally be defenceless against these fake humans, here’s the chance to get back at these imposters (and I don’t mean throwing them out of the airlock). Investigate an ongoing crime scene, speak to the locals, and whatever you do, don’t go out in the woods at night. Mimic Search is a good little horror game that effectively builds tension.

7) Missing Hiker

You follow in your friend’s footsteps after he went missing on a hiking trip to the mountains. Stories that people have mysteriously vanished after camping nearby have spread like wildfire in the community. Something is taking these people, but what? It may be bravery or blind stupidity leading you down the same path your friend made, but what outcome will you get? Missing Hiker is a 15-minute horror game that slowly builds, as the chances of your friend’s survival become slimmer and slimmer the closer you get to his last whereabouts.

8) TELEFORUM

Are the stories true? Is there something on that tape that made those people who previously had it in their possession suddenly go missing? You have to find out. TELEFORUM is Ringu meets Videodrome, an eerie and mind-bending horror that won’t take up too much of your time. Is what you’re seeing real or are you a part of this? Conducting your own investigation out of curiosity or to go viral will only get you killed, so are you sure you want to take the risk and watch that tape for yourself?

9) the static speaks my name

You see your immediate future (or past) through a cosmic being, who tells you how you’re going to die. Its themes are realistic and something too many of us can sadly relate to, making it a difficult game to finish, even though its contents are far more disturbing than what the average person sees and experiences. The words “today will be a better day” are haunting as your front door and windows are boarded up from the inside, where televisions are playing and static on screen acts as your only comfort. the static speaks my name is a macabre 10-minute tale and is one of the darkest games you can play, so viewer discretion is absolutely advised.

10) The Windows Are Gone

Grief manifests in different ways, but moving to a new house in a secluded neighborhood may be the fresh start you need to see a shift. You can’t remain trapped in the past, but it won’t let you escape that easily. Your home sweet home isn’t so sweet as moving in takes a dark turn. Where did I misplace that vase? Hang on, The Windows Are Gone. Your past is seeping into your new place. There’s no rest or moment of clarity for every minute is a reminder. This short horror game cleverly captures loss and how it holds onto you, trapping you inside.

11) Ultimate Custom Night

Whether you’ve played through Five Nights at Freddy’s or are looking for a good place to test those reflexes of yours, Ultimate Custom Night is the best training ground for Fazbear employees. Forget Aim Labs, this game will surely improve your reaction time. Customize your time in the security office by bringing aboard any animatronic, old and new. They may distract you, obscure your vision, or brutally end you, but there are so many combinations you can try and see if you can survive until 6am. If you want the ultimate point-and-click challenge, then why look anywhere else?

An old-school game — at least in terms of style — is now free for all Steam users on PC for a limited time. More specifically, Steam users have until July 1 to grab the PC game in question for free. Those on Steam Deck, specifically, can redeem the offer but they may run into issues running the game on the handheld Valve machine. We don’t know for sure though as the game’s Steam listing does not specify whether the game is “Unsupported” versus “Playable” or “Verified.” Rather, Steam Deck compatibility is simply listed as “Unknown.”

As for the new free Steam game in question, it is 2017 release Next Jump: Shmup Tactics from developer Post Mortem Pixels and publisher GrabTheGames. And according to Steam user reviews, the turn-based, tactics shoot ’em up is pretty good. On Steam, the game has a “Very Positive” rating thanks to 81 percent approval rating.

Now, the Steam game in question normally only costs $3.99 so this isn’t the biggest amount of savings in the world. That said, for those on a very tight budget who are looking for something new to play, it is a nice surprise, especially for those who are also a fan of old-school games.

“Next Jump is a turn-based, tactics shoot ’em up. Do space-jumps on procedurally generated boards and chase the vicious Dragons who stole all the stock of Beverage from the Galaxy,” reads an official elevator pitch of the free Steam game.

“An unexpectedly cool tactical game with an original presentation. The developers managed to mix elements of tactics and arcade shooter,” reads one of the aforementioned user reviews.

Another user review of the game adds: “Well now, it’s time to review yet another roguelike… or is it a turn-based strategy game? Bullet-hell? Yep, Next Jump: Shmup Tactics is all three of these things at once. These genres seem like they absolutely should not go together… it sounds totally nonsensical. But not only is the combination viable, but it works out really well here.”

Those that decide to check out this new free Steam game should prepare for a shorter experience. There is unfortunately insufficient data on how precisely long the game is, but most user reviews indicate it is a couple hours long at maximum.

It is officially summer, according to the Summer Solstice a handful of days ago, which means we have our first free Epic Games Store title of Summer 2025. And it is a pretty good one. The new free Epic Games Store game in question hails from 2021, and comes the way of developer Shedworks and publisher Raw Fury. The former notably debuted in 2021 with the free Epic Games Store game in question.

More specifically, all Epic Games Store users can now grab the following PC game for free between June 26 and July 3: Sable. For those unfamiliar with this open-world exploration game, it is a PC, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PS5 game that boasts Metacritic scores from 71 to 76, with said scores varying platform to platform. That said, user reviews suggest these scores may be a bit low. For example, on the Epic Games Store it has a 4.5 out of 5 rating with EGS users. Meanwhile, on Steam it has an 87% approval rating.

“Embark on a unique and unforgettable journey and guide Sable through her Gliding; a rite of passage that will take her across vast deserts and mesmerizing landscapes, capped by the remains of spaceships and ancient wonders,” reads an official description of the gam for those unfamiliar with it. “Explore the dunes on your hoverbike, scale monumental ruins and encounter other nomads as you unearth mysteries long forgotten and discover who she really is behind her mask.”

Those on Epic Games Store that decide to check out the PC version of Sable for free via this new offer should expect to put about 7 to 8 hours into the game just to complete its main story from start to finish. Those that want to experience the game’s side content will need to play it for double this, and completionists, meanwhile, will need triple this amount of time. Typically, for this content Epic Games Store users need to fork over $24.99.

As always with Epic Games Store, this a is a full game free download. Once claimed, all PC users will be able to keep the game forever. Meanwhile, all that is needed is an Epic Games Store account, which costs nothing.

A brand new co-op game known as Peak is topping the sales charts on Steam after going viral. There are so many good video games out there, some might even argue that there’s too many. We live in a digital age now where games don’t have to fight for shelf space at GameStop and as a result, digital storefronts are flooded with new games. Of course, not all of them are good and some of them are easy to pass on until they get discounted, but there’s still a lot of options. This has also empowered indie developers to make some really special games, with many of them leaning into the whimsical co-op genre lately.

Games like Lethal Company and REPO are prime examples of this, focusing on a horror-fused co-op adventure that is underscored by humorous possibilities. The inclusion of things like proximity chat in these games allow for some really funny organic moments that are extremely chaotic and ripe for social media views. These kinds of games have also been really successful because they are historically extremely cheap, making it easy not just for anyone to buy them, but also convince their friends to throw a few bucks at it and get a group together. It’s very smart marketing and has now led to a new sales giant on Steam.

A brand new game on Steam known as Peak is dominating the sales charts and is currently the second best selling paid game on the platform. At just $8, it’s quite a steal and is outpacing some other big games on Steam including this year’s latest and greatest titles. Peak has already sold over a million copies in its first week on the market and even broke over 100k concurrent players on Steam over the weekend. As more viral clips from Peak begin to circulate across TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, it’s likely the game will only grow its audience and continue to see more success.

Peak is a co-op game where up to 4 players get deserted on an island and must work together to scale a mountain and traverse very obstacles. The characters are very cute and cuddly looking creatures, indicating that Peak isn’t a very serious or realistic game. The characters can scale the mountain with their bare hands, but if they lose stamina, they will comically fall and have to pick up wherever they land. Players can assist each other by extending their hands, finding rope to grab on to, and more, but the humor definitely comes out of someone nearly getting to the top and then slipping and falling to their doom. You can see an example below.

Have you played Peak? Let me know in the comments!

A Marvel game just released on Steam, and the good news for PC users is they can try it for free because the Marvel game is free-to-play for all. The Marvel game in question is not a brand new release across the board, as it has been available to Marvel fans since 2014, however, it is a brand new release on both PC and Steam. Previously, it was only available on mobile phones, and in the Arcade, the latter coming in 2019. To date, the Marvel game has never come to console, and this has not changed.

The Marvel game in question is Marvel Contest of Champions from developer and publisher Kabam, a Canadian company known for mobile games alongside the occasional PC and Facebook release. Upon its initial release back in 2014, Marvel Contest of Champions — a fighting game — garnered a 76 on Metacritic. However, it appears Steam users are liking it less.

On Steam, Marvel Contest of Champions has a “Mixed” rating, the consequence of only 60 percent of user reviews rating the game positively. Of course, it being 11 years later does the Marvel fighting game no favor in this regard.

“The ultimate Marvel contest has arrived on PC,” reads the game’s official description on Steam. “Step into The Battlerealm and experience epic 1v1 combat featuring your favorite Super Heroes and Villains from across the Marvel Universe — now fully optimized for mouse, keyboard, and controller on the big screen! As a Summoner chosen by The Collector, assemble a powerful team from a roster of over 300 Champions — including iconic Avengers, X-Men, Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Verse heroes, and more! Whether you’re teaming up Iron Man and Wolverine or pitting Deadpool against Venom, the combinations are endless and the stakes are high.”

Those on Steam Deck interested in checking out Marvel Contest of Champions now that it is finally on PC and Steam should note that the game’s Steam Deck compatibility is listed as “Unknown.” To this end, there is no guarantee the Marvel game runs on Steam Deck, let alone runs well, especially with minimal configuration from the user. Alternatively, it could run like a dream on Steam Deck. Whatever the case, Valve has no information on the matter.

A new Steam game just released on the Valve storefront this week is completely free. And according to Steam user reviews for the PC game, it is pretty good. At the moment of writing, the new free Steam game has a 94 percent approval rating among Steam users. Of course, it could be argued that it being free inflates this rating, however, it being free also means it will attract a wider range of players with varying levels of interest, which actually can hurt its rating, something we have seen plenty of times in the past. In the past, games have been made free and their user review scores have actually lowered.

The new free Steam game in question is called Down the Rabbit Hole Flattened, which takes the 2020 VR game, Down the Rabbit Hole, and makes it 2D and playable beyond VR. That said, where Down the Rabbit Hole costs $20, Down the Rabbit Hole Flattened is free. Interestingly though, both have 94 percent Steam User Review ratings. Also like the original, this new free version of the game was developed by Cortopia Studios and published by Beyond Frames.

“Down the Rabbit Hole is an adventure that takes place in Wonderland prior to Alice’s arrival,” reads an official description of the game on Steam. “You will discover a girl in search of her lost pet, Patches, that has wandered into Wonderland. Guide her as she moves through the mysterious world. But which way should she go? You control the girl’s fate by plotting her journey through an immersive diorama that wraps around you. Through the game’s many twists and turns, you will find yourself exploring the most wondrous corners of Wonderland, solving puzzles, uncovering secrets and making choices about the story along the way.”

Those that decide to check out Down the Rabbit Hole Flattened because it is free on Steam should expect to sit down with the PC game for about 2-3 hours as it is a 2-3 hour long game. Meanwhile, those on Steam Deck should be aware that the game’s Steam listing notes that Steam Deck compatibility is “Unknown.”

As for why the game is free on Steam, it is probably because not many are going to be paying for a 2D version of a more niche VR game from 2020. More than this though, it is likely to promote the new release of its follow-up, Escaping Wonderland, which also came to Steam this week.

A sci-fi game from 2016 is now free for everyone on PC via Steam. Unfortunately, the listing of the new free Steam game notes that Steam Deck compatibility is “Unknown.” To this end, Steam Deck users may run into issues trying to run the new free PC game, assuming the handheld Valve machine can run the PC game at all. As for the free game itself, it is nothing very noteworthy, but it may be of interest to sci-fi fans looking for a small, palette cleanser between big releases.

The new free Steam game is called Space Pilgrim Episode II: Epsilon Indi, which is obviously a sequel to Episode I. And as you can see below, and its normal $1.99 price point, the PC game is humble in its offering, but apparently it is pretty good. On Steam, it has 426 user reviews, and 89 percent of these reviews are positive. As a result, the free Steam game has a “Very Positive” rating.

“One year after the events of Episode I, Captain Pilgrim is once again carrying a shipload of passengers between star systems,” reads an official description of the game on Steam. “This time her guests include a mysterious priestess, a wayward youth and a robotics genius. Little does she know that this latest journey will set her off on another hazardous adventure, involving a shadowy government organization known as the Jackals.”

Those that download Space Pilgrim Episode II: Epsilon Indi for free now that it is free on Steam should expect a game that is about a couple hours of long and a mature content rating.

“A very fun and quirky little game series about rebellion in a small sci-fi setting. I enjoyed a lot of the background world-building and the characters are very charming,” reads one of the aforementioned user reviews. “Gameplay consist of straight forward fetch quest puzzles which is okay considering this is an RPGmaker game that costs very little.”

While Space Pilgrim Episode II: Epsilon Indi is now free on Steam, it won’t be forever. This new deal is specifically only available until June 26. As for why it has been made free, we don’t know. Other games in the series have not been made free though.

Like every week, Epic Games Store has a new free game this week. And for the week between June 19 and June 26, PC users on Epic Games Store have a 2024 release to download for free. As always, once claimed the free PC game is free to keep forever. There is no subscription required nor is this a free demo or a free trial. Rather, it is a full, free game download. The only requirement to keep in mind is the window of availability.

The new free Epic Games Store game is called The Operator from developer Bureau 81. An adventure simulation game, it released back on July 22, 2024. And according to PC user reviews on Steam, it is pretty good. To date, it has 6,039 user reviews. And 92 percent of these user reviews are positive, giving the free PC game a “Very Positive” ranking on Steam. This is the second highest rating a Steam game can earn.

“Welcome to the FDI, Mr Tanner,” reads an official description of the game for all of those unfamiliar with it. “Time to clear your head, work through your hangover and start your first day as an Operator. There are plenty of cases to solve. Assist our field agents using your computer console and ingenuity to bring criminals to justice. Ready to make the world a better place?”

The Operator only normally costs $14, so this new free Epic Games Store offer isn’t the biggest money saver, but it is at least a quality game, which can’t be said about many weeks. Meanwhile, those that check out The Operator as a result of it being free on the Epic Games Store for a limited time should expect a game that is about three to five hours long. The bottom part of this range represents a playthrough that just plays the main story while the high end of this range represents a completionist playthrough.

This is the first time The Operator has ever been free on PC or any other platform. And when this type of of opportunity will come up again is anyone’s best guess.

The first update for Stellar Blade on PC has arrived, and Shift Up has even thrown in an update for the PlayStation 5 version. The update is relatively small for PS5 users, but PC players will appreciate the various bugs and issues addressed. Both versions also received general updates, which further improved the game. The bulk of Stellar Blade’s update today resolved bugs and known issues, especially for the PC version. Additionally, Shift Up has fixed a problem with the Nikke: Goddess of Victory collaboration content.

Epic Games is removing a controversial game from the library of everyone who owns it starting on November 1. The PC game in question was removed from sale on the Epic Games Store earlier this year, but those who owned it already were able to retain their copy and continue to play it. This is going to change on November 1 though, when the game is completely removed from the library of all players.

The game in question is Dark and Darker, which was removed from the Epic Game Store earlier this year over its legal issues involving it, developer Ironmace, and Nexon who claim to have been stolen from by the former. The legal matter is complex and messy, but what’s important to note is it led to Epic Games yanking the game entirely from its storefront, and it remains pulled, despite being available on Steam.

Now, Epic Games Store has begun to send emails to those with Dark and Darker in their library, letting them know the game is going to be removed from the library and that there will be some refunds involved. The statement reads as follows:

“We removed Dark and Darker from sale on the Epic Games Store on March 5 in consideration of a court decision in Korea between Nexon and the game’s publisher, Ironmace. On November 1, 2025, we will be removing Dark and Darker from your library, at which point it will no longer be playable via the Epic Games Store,” reads the email sent out to owners. The email continues:

“Effective immediately, players can no longer purchase Redstone Shards or the Legendary Status upgrades via the Epic Games Store. Players can continue to use the Redstone Shards that they have previously purchased until November 1, 2025. We will issue a refund to all players who have purchased the Legendary Status upgrade. Refunds will be issued to the player’s original payment method, and where that’s not possible, players will receive a refund to their Epic account balance. We are unable to provide refunds on Redstone Shards. If you have not received a refund by July 1, please contact player support.”

dark-and-darker-mobile.jpg

What will come from this is likely dependent on what comes at the end of this legal dispute. In the meantime, Steam has not taken a similar action, but this could very well change in the future.

Dark and Darker, for those unfamiliar with it, is a multiplayer action RPG meets dungeon crawler set in a dark fantasy world that debuted back in 2023 in early access form. Upon release, not just on PC but mobile devices as well, it received a mixed reception.

A classic Star Wars game from 1998 is now available for free, for some. The new free Star Wars game is a PC-only game, so those on console looking to relive Star Wars nostalgia will need to find some other avenue to do this because this Star Wars game is not on console. Meanwhile, this offer comes through Prime Gaming, and thus requires that all interested have an Amazon Prime subscription. There are over 200 million Amazon Prime accounts, so this is not an issue for many, but it is the requirement.

Those with a PC to play games and with an Amazon Prime subscription have until July 21 to download Star Wars: Rebellion — known as Star Wars Supremacy in some parts of the world — for free. For those unfamiliar with this game, it is a 1998 release from developer Coolhand Interactive and publisher LucasArts. Notably, Star Wars: Rebellion is the one and only release from Coolhand Interactive, who quickly was dissolved not long after the release of the Star Wars game.

A real-time 4x strategy game set in the fictional Star Wars expanded universe, Star Wars: Rebellion was unfortunately not very well received upon release, as evident by the fact Coolhand Interactive shut down not long after. It did not review well and it did not sell terribly well, despite the Star Wars brand being attached to it. That said, it is a unique Star Wars game from a different era of Star Wars games that fans of the IP could find some interest in.

“It is a time of great upheaval. The first Death Star has been destroyed, marking a major victory for the Rebellion. But the Empire remains strong. As commander, you must choose to take control of either the Rebel Alliance or the Galactic Empire. Your goal: complete domination of the galaxy,” reads an official description of the game for those unfamiliar with it.. “Take the galaxy by force. Take the galaxy through diplomacy. Take the galaxy via covert operations. Earn the loyalty (or resentment) of up to 200 worlds. Star Wars: Rebellion gives you a myriad of means to implement strategy and tactics on a grand scale and in a real-time environment. With control of the entire Star Wars galaxy as the prize, will the Force be with you? Discover for yourself. “

It is important to note that while an Amazon Prime subscription is required to download this Star Wars game for free, it is not required to retain the free download. In other words, once claimed, the Star Wars game is yours to keep regardless of your Amazon Prime subscription status.

There are two noteworthy Steam games releasing this week, but only one is going to be Verified on Steam Deck, while the other is simply listed as “Playable.” The latter, for those all looking forward to is Rematch. Whether it will be updated to be Steam Deck Verified after release, we don’t know, but at launch it will not be Steam Deck Verified. What will be though is FBC: Firebreak, the newest game from Remedy Entertainment, the studio behind games and series such as Control, Alan Wake, Quantum Break, and the first two Max Payne games.

For those unfamiliar with the game, FBC: Firebreak is a three-player co-op first-person shooter set in the same mysterious federal agency that the aforementioned Control is set in. Whether it will be any good, remains to be seen. It is certainly a smaller, more experimental release from the studio, but because it comes from Remedy Entertainment, it has garnered lots of attention nonetheless.

“FBC: Firebreak is a cooperative first-person shooter set within a mysterious federal agency under assault by otherworldly forces,” reads an official description of the game on Steam, for those unfamiliar with it. “As a years-long siege on the agency’s headquarters reaches its boiling point, only Firebreak— the Bureau’s most versatile unit—has the gear and the guts to plunge into the building’s strangest crises, restore order, contain the chaos, and fight to reclaim control.”

As for what Steam Deck Verified means, it means Valve has tested the game and not only is it playable from start to finish but it works well with the Steam Deck’s built-in controls and unique display. And it achieves this by default, aka it does not require further configuration from Steam Deck users.

FBC: Firebreak will cost $49.99 on Steam when it releases, the same price on every other platform. However, on Xbox and PS5 some users will be able to enjoy it at no extra cost via Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus, respectively.

Nexus Mods has long been one of the most accessible and widely used sites for modding on PC, but that may be about to change. News that Dark0ne has sold Nexus Mods has officially been revealed and the reaction so far is not positive. One of the major points of contention among users is the lack of who Nexus Mods has been sold to. It is unclear what changes will happen with the site, but fans expect the worst.

Dark0ne started Nexus Mods 24 years ago alongside the release of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and is now stepping down as the site’s lead. The reins have been handed over to Foledinho and Rapsak, whom Dark0ne introduces as Victor and Marinus.

“They’ve got deep roots in gaming, tech, and most importantly, they give a damn; about the site, the community, and the future we’re trying to build here,” Dark0ne wrote. “They have my complete trust, and I’m incredibly proud to be bringing them onboard.”

Nexus Mods
Nexus Mods.

Users of Nexus Mods were quick to point out that no company name was given, nor were there many details about Victor and Marinus. Many were alarmed by the lack of transparency with the sale and expect major changes to occur despite Dark0ne’s reassurances. Fans expect price increases or for the service produced to suffer in quality.

Dark0ne goes on to say he will still have a role at Nexus Mods, working on the Mod Author Discord. However, ownership and leadership have been transferred to Victor and Marinus. Much of the team behind NexusMods will still be present as well.

Nexus Mods’ future is uncertain, but Dark0ne’s statement stirred up a lot of drama, confusion, and fear within the modding community. It remains to be seen if there are drastic changes, or if the site runs as is.

How do you feel about the sale of Nexus Mods? Will you continue to use it or search for an alternative? Let us know your thoughts below!

Steam users have a new free PC game they can grab, but they only have 48 hours to grab it. Not only is the PC game free on Steam, but it is Steam Deck Verified according to its Steam listing. This means Valve has tested the game on the Steam Deck and can ensure the entire game runs on the handheld, runs well, and requires no additional configuration from Steam Deck owners. Unfortunately, those on the hunt for deals for for the latest or greatest games on Steam will find this new free Steam game underwhelming. It is far from the best PC game on Steam, but it is free until June 17.

The free Steam game in question is called Paradox Soul, which according to developer Ritual Games is a “a Metroidvania pixel action-shooter hybrid.” This is not the first release from Ritual Games, however, like Paradox Soul, its previous games have yet to make a splash on Steam, which is probably why you have never heard of the studio and why this game has been made free on Steam.

As for Paradox Soul, specifically, it boasts a “Mixed” rating on Steam. Only 43 percent of user reviews rate the game positively, and considering it is available for free currently, which usually inflates scores, this is an even worse return. But again, it is free.

“Paradox Soul is a 2D explorative action-shooter hybrid,’ reads an official description of the game on Steam. “You play Dr Alli Rose, a research scientist who stumbles across a peculiar test facility, determined to unravel the mystery and take on whatever evil is in her path.” Shoot, cover and dash your way through this nightmarish Metroidvania game!”

It is worth noting that Paradox Soul only normally costs $4.99, so this free deal on Steam is not exactly the biggest money saver. However, for those on a tight budget, $5 saved can go a long way.

Meanwhile, those interested in how the game is, there isn’t sufficient data on this, however, most user reviews are from accounts with no more than a few hours of playtime, so don’t expect anything much more than this.

A Steam game from 2024 is currently free for all Steam users on PC. This includes Steam Deck users, however, it is unclear if the game supports Steam Deck as its Steam listing says Steam Deck functionality is “Unknown.” To this end, it could run fine on the Steam Deck or not support the Valve machine at all. Unfortunately, we don’t know. What we do know is it costs nothing to find out between now and June 24, the latter being the date when this deal expires and the free Steam game reverts back to its normal price point.

Interestingly, this new free Steam game is actually an Early Access game, meaning it is not fully out yet. That said, it has been available on Steam in Early Access form since December 6, 2024. The new free Steam game is called What the Pak, and it is a “minigame-rush party game” from developers Wendigo Games and publisher Broken Lyre Entertainment. And according to Steam user reviews, the PC game — which normally costs $5.99 — is pretty good.

On Steam, the free PC game has a “Positive” rating thanks to 86 percent of user reviews rating the game positively. How many of these reviews are since the game became free on Steam, we don’t know, but this certainly could be inflating its numbers.

“Welcome to What the Pak,” reads an official description of the game on Steam. “Many mini-games are at your disposal, my lord… lady… captain? If you’re looking for a 3D party game with fast-paced gameplay, your search ends here. What the Pak is a minigame-rush party game that rewards fast play and parkour skills. Our little wannabe monsters don’t know the word ‘logic.’ When they see a cliff, they jump. When they see a crown, they steal it. When they see a bomb, they explode. If you want a carefree gaming experience like our little PAKs, join our ranks.”

“At first, I thought this was a cheap Fall Guys knockoff that would only be enjoyable for minimal time,” reads one of the aforementioned user reviews. “However, upon playing, I soon found out this was not the case and got addicted quickly.”

Just when you thought you could make sense of who’s real, No, I’m not a Human throws a spanner in the works with its newest Steam Next Fest demo that includes a terrifying feature: Randomization. While the outside world follows the same dark path, those who come knocking at your door for refuge or bloodshed will arrive in no particular order—heightening your paranoia. Set to release Q3 2025, No, I’m not a Human just got a whole lot tougher.

No, I’m not a Human is an indie horror game reminiscent of Papers, Please, That’s Not my Neighbor, and Alternate Watch. With clear reference to Alex Kister’s Mandela Catalogue, No, I’m not a Human invites you into a world full of paranoia, where the safety of your home is under threat every time the Sun sets. But going outside isn’t safe either for the Sun’s temperature is rising every day and there’s claims that Visitors have risen from the Earth’s soil, masquerading as one of us. Trapped inside your home, can you figure out whether the guest knocking at your door at night is truly human? You can’t survive alone for the Super Imposter is watching your every move.

The first demo (from the Anthology) featured mysterious lore, uncanny characters, and endings. So, what has changed in this demo that arrived June 8th?

When compared to the Violent Horror Stories: Anthology, the answer is fourfold: There’s new guests, items, achievements, and that dreaded randomization feature. While the thin man and hunched woman remain the first two guests you can let in or leave outside, the order that follows them is randomized based on your actions. New dialogue lines open if the guest (regardless of their identity) are alive during the day, with more added each day they survive. Your energy bar only depletes when you want to test a guest and new lore can be uncovered in the television and new interactive radio.

The Neighor, Prophet, and FEMA remain a constant in each playthrough, appearing on the same night regardless of your actions. But the main thing that’ll keep you on your toes is how the guest order is now randomized, including brand new guests you’ve never met before. Guests feel more alive than ever and you’ll question whether Visitors are truly real or if the world has gone bad from the Sun’s rays.

There’s messages to decode on the radio by searching frequencies, changing stations, and listening out for unintelligible speech. There doesn’t seem to be whispers at the doors anymore, but there are new sinister images that’ll pop-up if you kill guests and Visitors. Alongside the new guests, items, and the randomized feature that is sure to keep you entertained; there’s 26 achievements to unlock, and likely more to come for No, I’m not a Human‘s full release later this year.

Your morals will be tested. Unlike the Anthology demo, there isn’t so much an ending available for the full game’s version. Based on our playthroughs, the Neighbor, Prophet, and Super Imposter appear once and the demo abruptly concludes following an encounter with these key characters. This is standard for video games demos, but is very different to what we previously experienced in No, I’m not a Human. The mystery is higher than ever in this rendition of the game and you’re invited to fill Feedback Form after playing, to share your thoughts.

No, I’m not a Human will release this Fall, 2025. Prepare for the end by looking for the tell-tale signs that the “human” in front of you may just be a Visitor: Perfect teeth, dirty fingernails, bloodshot eyes, and hairless armpits. The clues are all there, but can you differentiate between who’s human and who isn’t?

After an impressive showing during its Advanced Access period, the full launch for Dune: Awakening has arrived. Officially out today, June 10th, Dune: Awakening is welcoming a whole new wave of gamers to Arakkis. To celebrate the game’s official launch, Funcom has unveiled its first wave of Twitch freebies for the game. In addition to a series of cosmetic items to help build your base, gamers can claim a special Atreides Officer Suit cosmetic through a new Support a Creator Twitch event for Dune: Awakening.

Dune: Awakening is an open-world survival MMO set in the world of Dune. And clearly, gamers were more than ready to see what this latest sci-fi game has to offer. Dune: Awakening has flown up the Steam concurrent charts since its full release earlier today, hitting over 139,400 players and counting. Reviews from Advanced Access on through release day land the new sci-fi MMO in a solid Very Positive rating range on Steam.

Gamers who purchased the Season Pass are now getting ahold of the first set of DLC, with a variety of statues to help decorate their home base. The Deluxe and Ultimate editions also come with a few costumes to customize your character. But if you prefer your new cosmetics to be of the free variety, a new set of Twitch drops for Dune: Awakening has arrived.

How To Get all Dune: Awakening Twitch Freebies

The first wave of Twitch drops for Dune: Awakening began on June 5th and runs through June 24th. This set of freebies features three different base-building cosmetics, all with an Observer theme. The freebies are:

Dune Awakening Twitch Freebies
The first wave of Dune: Awakening Twitch drops
  • Observer Foundation – Watch 30 Minutes
  • Observer Floor – Watch 1 Hour
  • Observer Wall – Watch 2 Hours

To get the items, gamers will need to connect their Twitch account to their Dune: Awakening account. Then, watch a participating Dune: Awakening stream with the Drops Enabled tag for the requisite amount of time to earn each reward.

This first set of Twitch drops is just the beginning, however. Along with the original wave of traditional Twitch drops, Dune: Awakening has revealed a special Support a Creator event freebie. Gamers who purchase or gift subscriptions to Dune: Awakening content creators will be able to earn all four pieces of a new, exclusive Atreides Officer Suit. This event begins today, June 10th, and runs through July 8th.

Technically, this item isn’t entirely free, as it requires subscribing to at least two creators on Twitch to earn. However, if you have a creator you want to support (or a free Amazon Prime sub to burn), this is a nice bonus for hitting the subscribe button. Your subscription can be for any tier.

Funcom has already teased that they plan to roll out additional free Twitch drops for Dune: Awakening. The new freebies will likely be revealed closer to when the current Twitch drops expire on June 24th. So, even if this first round of freebies doesn’t interest you, it may be worth linking your Twitch account to stay ready for more enticing item drops in the future.

Dune: Awakening is available now for PC via Steam. A console release for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S is planned for sometime later.

A Bethesda game is free on both Xbox consoles and PC for 48 hours, aka until and through June 12. The former includes Xbox One, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X. That said, an Amazon Prime subscription is needed to access the free download as it comes via Prime Gaming. An active subscription is not required to retain the free download once claimed, but it is required to initiate the free download.

As for the free game in question, it hails from 2017, where it won Best Action Game at The Game Awards that year alongside nominations for Best Performance, Best Game Direction, and Best Narrative. For those that have not connected the dots yet, the free game is Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus.

Developed by Swedish studio MachineGames — who most recently put out Indiana Jones and the Great CircleWolfenstein II: The New Colossus is an action-adventure game meets first-person shooter with some stealth elements. The seventh game in the historic Wolfenstein series, it is a direct follow-up to 2014’s Wolfenstein reboot, Wolfenstein: The New Order. It has yet to receive a proper sequel, but in 2019 a spin-off psuedo follow-up, Wolfenstein: Youngblood was received. Unfortunately, it was not as well received as Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, which boasts an impressive 88 on Metacritic.

“America, 1961. Your assassination of Nazi General Deathshead was a short-lived victory,” reads an official story synopsis for those unfamiliar with it. “Despite the setback, the Nazis maintain their stranglehold on the world. You are BJ Blazkowicz, aka “Terror-Billy,” member of the Resistance, scourge of the Nazi empire, and humanity’s last hope for liberty. Only you have the guts, guns, and gumption to return stateside, kill every Nazi in sight, and spark the second American Revolution.”

Those that take advantage of this free offer and check out Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus should expect a game that is about 10 to 17 hours long, depending on how bogged down in side content you get, and other factors such as playstyle and skill level. Meanwhile, completionists will need more like 30 hours with the Bethesda game. For all of this, normally you have to fork over $40.

The Xbox Games Showcase happened yesterday, June 8, and the long-awaited new Fable game was absent from the show, which fans are not happy about it. What is odd about this is that Fable is scheduled to release on PC and Xbox Series X in 2026. And during the showcase Xbox boss Phil Spencer reaffirmed this release window for the game. While Fable fans would have preferred for the game to show up, and even get a release date during the showcase, it not appearing is telling as well.

Those hoping to get the Fable release date in the first half of the year or going to want to readjust their expectations. If Fable was going to release in the first half of 2026, let alone the first quarter, it would have been shown at this Xbox showcase and probably dated as well. It not appearing at this showcase, all but confirms it will be at next year’s showcase. The showcase is Microsoft’s biggest marketing beat, and it’s not going to miss it with Fable.

This means the earliest Fable can come out is in the second half of June, but given the importance and size of the release, it is hard to imagine the turnaround between this big marketing pop and release to be too short. It is going to want to market the game.

What this all means is Fable is probably not coming out until Q4 2026, or possibly, at the earliest, late into Q3 2026. Some have taken its no-show at this year’s Xbox Games Showcase as a hint it is going to be delayed, but there is still plenty of room and opportunity for Microsoft to release this game in 2026. Further, let’s not forget this game has been cooking in development since at least 2018 and was supposed to be a 2025 game. For it slip all the way until 2027 from this original planned release of 2025, seems unlikely, though it still can’t be ruled out.

Stellar Blade x Goddess of Victory: Nikke

Stellar Blade launches on PC on June 11th and the DLC collaboration with Shift Up’s other title, Goddess of Victory: Nikke, releases the same day for both PC and PlayStation 5. The DLC adds a great amount of content, with many excited for the boss fight that combines elements of both games. In addition to this, players will be able to enjoy various new game modes, including one directly inspired by Goddess of Victory: Nikke as seen in new footage.

When the Goddess of Victory: Nikke DLC releases for Stellar Blade on June 11th, players will be able to equip outfits from the game inspired by Rapi from Nikke. Not only this, but they can defeat the new boss fight to unlock a new outfit, Surface Refugee, for Eve, as well as new songs from Nikke.

Deviating from Stellar Blade’s core gameplay are the new game modes added. Players will be able to play Goddess of Victory: Nikke’s over-the-shoulder cover-based shooting mode. Shift Up is also adding a new fishing mechanic where players can pull up rewards like dolls of characters from Nikke. There is even a “Catch Me If You Can” game mode where players must chase down a character from the game.

The PC edition of Stellar Blade also comes with other improvements. Graphics have been optimized for PC and support for ultrawide monitors is available at launch. Enhanced framerates, texture pack support, and PS5 DualSense controller support are all included as well.

Stellar Blade Complete Edition is the most robust version of the game by Shift Up. Pre-ordering this title also comes with other rewards, including in-game items and cosmetics. Players on PS5 can also access the Goddess of Victory: Nikke DLC on June 11th when it releases.

A Steam game is now completely free for all PC users, and according to Steam User reviews, the free Steam game in question is pretty good. Unfortunately, while Steam Deck users can grab the game for free, there is no guarantee the PC game will run on the Steam Deck, as its Steam listing reveals that Steam Deck compatibility is “Unknown.” The good news is Steam Deck users have nothing to lose in finding out about its compatibility because the game is 100% free.

The offer specifically comes the way of Fanatical, who only wants you to sign up for its free newsletter in return. Of course, once signed up and once the free Steam game is secured, PC users are allowed to unsubscribe whenever they want. In addition to this though, PC users will want to note that this offer is set to expire 20 hours from the moment of publishing, and is also dependent on supplies not running dry, which may happen before the 20 hours expires. How many codes are left, currently, we do not know.

As for the free Steam game itself, it is called Gigapocalypse, a 2021 release from developer Goody Gameworks and publisher Headup that is said to be inspired by classical Kaiju movies, like Godzilla and King Kong, as well as games like Rampage. And as noted, it is apparently pretty good, or at least that is what its 93% approval rating on Steam suggests. This rating is after 161 user reviews, and gives the game a “Very positive” rating, the second highest rating a PC game can earn on Steam.

“Start your destruction spree and destroy everything on your way through different beautifully detailed pixel style locations. Ever wondered how it looks like when a giant monster destroys a wild west town? Or clashing against the brave Knights Templar? Gigapocalypse has the answer. But beware: Nasty soldiers, wizards, drones and mechs will do everything to stop you! With each try your Giga will become more powerful until you will finally make it to the diversified, epic boss fights that await you at the end of each level.”

Those on PC that decide to take advantage of this free Steam game deal should expect, on average 3 to 4 hours from the game, though completionists will need closer to 35 hours with it. Normally, PC users have to fork over $10 to Steam this content.

A new Schedule 1 update has been released, the first of June 2025, and the only update planned for the Steam game this month, as far as we know. Unfortunately, for Schedule I players on Steam, the update is not the most consequential update, however there are some new content additions alongside a host of tweaks and improvements. There are also some bug fixes as well.

While Schedule 1 developer TVGS has provided the official patch notes for the update — Update v0.3.6 — it has not provided any information about what the file size of the new update is, and thus we don’t have any concrete insight to offer on how long it could take to download.

As for the new additions, lockers have been added and have replaced employee beds. Meanwhile, there are now item slot filters and employee property transfers.

Schedule 1 Update v0.3.6 Patch Notes

Additions

  • Added lockers. These will be replacing employee beds. For compatibility reasons, employees will still be assigned to beds in existing saves, but going forward, you can use lockers instead, which are more space-efficient and can store more stuff.
  • Added item slot filters. You can now set whitelists or blacklists on slots to tell employees which items should or shouldn’t go in a particular slot.
  • Added employee property transfers.

Tweaks/Improvements

  • Increased storage unit employee capacity to 3.
  • Consolidated all NPC save files.
  • Consolidated property save files.
  • Consolidated business save files.
  • Changed the trash can pickup area to be square instead of circular.
  • The trash can pickup area is now visible while you’re placing the trash can.

Bug fixes

  • Fixed occasional NPC long-distance pathing failures.
  • Fixed occasional employee pathing failures.
  • Fixed employees sometimes attempting to pick up items that they don’t have the inventory capacity for.
  • Fixed botanist-related performance issue.
  • Fixed police showing question marks above their heads while they’re unconscious.
  • Fixed viewmodel drifting.
  • Fixed an incorrect statement regarding how dealers are unlocked.

Two different PC games from 2024 have been made free on Steam for a limited time. Unfortunately for Steam Deck users, one of the games is only listed as “Playable” while the other lists Steam Deck compatibility as “Unknown.” That said, both PC games in question are smaller releases from last year so Steam Deck users aren’t missing out on anything crazy, however, the one game, in particular, does have impressive user review scores.

The more prominent of the two — or at least the game with the positive user reviews — is Soulbound from developer Schmoovin Studios and publisher Dink. The debut release from the former hit back on January 21, 2024 and boasts an 89% approval rating on Steam. Of the two games, this is the one listed as “Playable” on Steam Deck.

What makes this free giveaway more notable is that the PC game is being removed from Steam on June 30, 2025. Previously, it was not free, but it is free in its final month on Steam. Meanwhile, Schmoovin Studios teases that this is not the end of Soulbound, suggesting an expanded and more premium experience is in the works.

As for the game itself, it is pitched as a 2D PvP platformer where one player races as a ninja and the other plays a ghost that tries to steal body by possessing enemies to thwart the ninja.

The other new free Steam game is Holy Clash Cards from Mttsus and Randomkey Inc, which released on May 22, 2024 as the second release from both. Unlike Soulbound though, it is not listed as “Playable” on Steam Deck, but rather Steam Deck compatibility is listed as “Unknown.” Meanwhile, it also does not boast positive user review scores but instead has a “Mostly Negative” rating.

The free PC game is pitched as a strategy meets deck-building game where players are “thrust into the heart of an epic clash between righteousness and chaos, where every move shapes the fate of their faith and the destiny of their honorable army.” Where Soulbound is free for the entire month of June though, Holy Clash Cards is only free until June 9.

Again, these aren’t the most noteworthy free Steam games, but free Steam games seldomly are very noteworthy as noteworthy PC games are rarely given away for free. However, what is free right now on Steam — and what is noteworthy — is Borderlands 2. Other free options on Steam right now include a 2020 Xbox game and a dark RPG from 2022.

Dune: Awakening is available right now on PC via Steam ahead of its June 10 release date, courtesy of “Advance Access.” And it looks like the survival MMO is going to be one of 2025’s surprise hits. On Advance Access sales alone it sits atop the Steam charts and has already almost hit 100k concurrent players on Steam. That said, those checking out the new Funcom release should turn on one specific feature that is hidden in the settings and is not turned on by default for some strange reason.

Over on the Dune: Awakening Reddit page, one player issued a public service announcement revealing there is a “show friendly indicators” toggle buried in the game’s setting that for some reason is not turned on. Of course, this is not relevant for those playing the Dune MMO as a solo experience, but as an MMO this is not the case for many. And without this setting turned on, it can be hard to know who is friendly versus not.

As the comments on the post reveal, there are plenty of Dune: Awakening players who had no idea about this feature, and if the hardcore players who bought Advanced Access and who populate the game’s Reddit page didn’t know about this feature in the game’s setting, it is safe to assume many more casual fans in the coming days and weeks also won’t know about this very helpful feature. That said, it is worth noting that this feature could be toggled automatically on by the time the game releases if Funcom issues a patch between now and then that takes into consideration early player feedback.

Dune: Awakening is available on PC in early access right now via Steam and Steam only. As noted, a full release date is to follow on June 10. PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are also in the works, but right now there is no word of when these versions will release.

Controller feature

So many third-party controllers for PC exist that it’s hard to argue for a clear-cut winner. One controller has better haptics, the other back buttons, while another just possesses that premium feel in-hand. With different brands offering different features, it’s hard to pick which controller best suits your long-term needs.

The thought of choosing the wrong one puts your mind in limbo, and you need something to tip you in the right direction. Comparing prices, features, and overall experience, this list gives a breakdown of the most popular controllers for PC. It highlights the pros and cons of each controller and recommends one that fits you.

8BitDo Ultimate 2C Wireless Controller

Image: 8BitDo
  • Price: $30 – See on Amazon
  • Pros: extra bumpers, Hall Effect joysticks and triggers, 2.4G/Bluetooth/Wired connection options

Priced only at $30, 8BitDo’s Ultimate 2C gives you the best bang for your buck. Despite being so cheap, it’s made out of high-quality materials. Its in-hand feel is just as fulfilling as the PS5 DualSense, while its layout is like that of the Xbox controller. But you could argue that the Ultimate 2C is better than both in three ways.

Firstly, the Ultimate 2C comes with Hall Effect joysticks and triggers, making it super resistant to stick drift. Even the premium-priced DualSense lacks that feature. Second, the Ultimate 2C comes with extra bumpers. These tiny extra buttons are located right next to the left and right bumpers. They can be remapped and are invaluable for hardcore players who need an edge.

Lastly, with the Ultimate 2C, you get a massive battery life of 15 hours. It charges in under two hours, too, so with only two full charges, you’ll be able to finish most AAA games. Given the long battery life, extra bumpers, and Hall Effect joysticks for the low price of $30, the 8BitDo Ultimate 2C is the perfect choice for people who want a budget-friendly beast.

GameSir Super Nova

Image: GameSir
  • Price: $50 – See on Amazon
  • Pros: Hall Effect joysticks and triggers, swappable faceplates and buttons, free charging dock, works on Mobile/PC/Switch

GameSir Super Nova is a jam-packed controller for a modest price tag. It has swappable buttons, so you can adjust the positions of the ABXY keys according to preference. Its triggers can lock for shorter presses and faster response times. Plus, both the triggers and joysticks use Hall Effect technology.

Aesthetically, the Super Nova doesn’t cut any corners. It has a gradient finish faceplate and slick RGB lighting around the grips. Even the faceplate is magnetic and detachable to offer more customization. Two programmable buttons are located on the back, and a 6-axis gyroscope is integrated into the controller, too. Throw the free charging dock into the mix the GameSir Super Nova becomes the best $50 controller for PC.

Xbox Wireless Controller

Image: Xbox
  • Price: $64.99 – See on Amazon
  • Pros: Windows native support, buttery smooth user experience

The Xbox controller is the simplest plug-and-play option for PC owners. Windows is made with the Xbox controller in mind, while all other third-party controllers mimic its software. With the Xbox controller, it’s very easy to navigate the Windows game overlay, and it’s guaranteed that every game will work using it. The Xbox controller has native Windows support, good build quality, and design, but it’s very basic in other aspects.

It runs on AA batteries instead of a built-in rechargeable battery pack. It lacks any Hall Effect sticks, any customization options, or anything else for that matter. The Xbox controller’s spec sheet pales in comparison to most controllers. However, Windows has native support for it, and the user experience is buttery smooth. Because of this, the Xbox controller becomes a robust choice and one to take advantage of, especially if you can find a good discount on it.

PlayStation DualSense Wireless Controller

Image: PlayStation
  • Price: $74.99 – See on Amazon
  • Pros: haptic feedback, bulky premium feel, touchpad

The build quality of the DualSense is insane. It’s stylish with a touchpad — albeit that feature is useless on a PC. Its motors have next-level haptic feedback. The triggers can perfectly recreate the feeling of pulling back a bow or firing a gun. The controller’s body passes unique pinpoint vibrations through your hands if the game supports such features. It’s the controller to buy for build quality, but on PC, it has shortcomings.

On PC, only Bluetooth and wired modes are available. No native Windows support for the DualSense exists, and the haptics only work in wired mode. You can make the DualSense controller work by either tinkering around in Steam or via third-party applications. This makes the DualSense a bit of a hassle.

Its premium, bulky feel and haptic feedback are amazing, but on the other hand, it’s hard to use on PC. If you plan on playing PlayStation titles on PC, the DualSense is a must-buy. However, if you don’t mind missing out on the haptics, then it’s better to get an alternative.

Scuf Envision Pro

Image: Scuf
  • Price: $139.99 – See on Amazon
  • Pros: fully customizable, extra bumpers & back buttons, side action buttons, 5 G-keys

If you’ve got money to spend, the Scuf Envision Pro is second to none when it comes to customization. With the Scuf Envision Pro, you can tailor everything to your needs. From the color of the bumpers to the shape of the joysticks, every part of the Envision Pro is changeable.

The Scuf Envision Pro has four back buttons, two side action buttons, five programmable G-keys for micromanagement, and trigger locks to adjust presses. However, two things which the Envision Pro lacks are gyro and Hall Effect sticks, which will be a deal breaker for some people.

The Scuff Envision Pro has a steep starting price of $139.99, which keeps on climbing the more you customize it. It costs twice as much if you max it all out, but then you also receive the novelty of having a personally built controller. If budget and bang for the buck service are priorities, the 8BitDo Ultimate 2C and GameSir Super Nova are amazing picks. But if you’re a collector or have no problem with overpaying for customization, the Scuf Envision Pro is the holy grail.

Occasionally, Steam offers free demos for some of the most highly anticipated video games. Some of these are available for a limited time, while others are permanent listings on the digital storefront. The latest free demo is of the former, and it is for the upcoming 3rd-person action-adventure game Hell Is Us. Developed by Rogue Factor and published by Nacon, this is arguably one of the most anticipated games of the year, and now PC players can check out a snippet of the game right now.

The Hell Is Us demo is available between now and June 16th. To begin downloading the demo, go to the game’s store page on Steam, and the option to download should be just below the video and description that are found at the top of all Steam listings. In terms of what the demo covers, the developers state that it “begins right at the start of the game.” However, the studio did not give information about how long the demo is. Like most demos, it is meant to give players a glimpse of gameplay, and ease players into its various systems.

Unfortunately for console players, the Hell Is Us demo is only available on PC due to “technical constraints.” However, the developer reassured players that the PC and console versions of the games will launch simultaneously.

“We know many of you are eagerly awaiting the game, and we would have loved to offer the demo on consoles as well,” says Rogue Factor. “Unfortunately, due to technical constraints, this isn’t currently possible — it’s simply much easier to release a demo on PC. Please rest assured: Hell is Us will launch simultaneously on PC and consoles, with the same content and the same level of polish. Development is progressing equally across all platforms — this limitation only concerns the demo.”

In terms of features, the demo is only available in English. This is not indicative of the full release, as the game will have English and French voice action, as well as text and subtitles for English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Chinese (Simplified), Russian, Polish, Portuguese, Japanese, Korean, and Turkish. It will also have three difficulty options, as well as other customization options to tailor the experience.

PC specs for Hell Is Us are available on its Steam page. It does seem like most gaming PCs made within the past five years will be able to handle the game. The minimum requirements list an Intel Core i7-7700K or AMD Ryzen 3 3300X processor, 16GB RAM, and NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 or AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT.

Hell Is Us

Hell Is Us is a 3rd-person action-adventure game that combines intense melee combat with the thrill of exploration. Explore a semi-open world to find answers to your questions and face mysterious creatures all along your journey.

“As well as the civil war dividing the country, the region is suffering from a mysterious calamity, which has given rise to supernatural creatures that no modern weapon can defeat. Your drone and sword from a different age are your faithful allies as you cut a path through lands infested with terrifying chimeras and try to unravel the mystery of their appearance.”

Hell Is Us will release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC on September 4.

Roblox Grow a Garden Scarecrow

Roblox features a wide variety of games for players to enjoy. However, one game has risen above the rest, capturing the Roblox audience in an impressive way. Though relatively new to the platform, Roblox’s Grow a Garden continues to attract new and returning players to its simple, cozy gameplay mechanics. Recently, the game reportedly surpassed the 4.3 billion visits mark, sending it soaring above Steam’s highest-ever concurrent player count of 3.2 million for PUBG: Battlegrounds. Clearly, something about Grow a Garden just works, and it’s showing no signs of slowing down any time soon.

Grow a Garden retains a top spot in the “top trending” list on Roblox, well ahead of next runner-up, Basketball: Zero, and fellow cozy sim Build an Island. It also tops the Top Earning and Top Revisted category, showing that players are investing both time and dollars in the Roblox farming sim. While not everyone loves the game, those who do keep coming back for more, earning the game its record-breaking potential.

Roblox Grow a Garden
Watching the numbers go up is another fun part of Grow a Garden

Of course, Roblox games being free-to-play has certainly helped Grow a Garden achieve its impressive player base. However, not every free-to-play game has reached such heights, so there’s clearly more going on. The game is part farming sim, part idler, letting gamers tend to their virtual garden. In true “number go up” fashion, gamers can watch their earnings soar as they plant and harvest various crops.

What’s Coming in the Next Grow a Garden Update on Roblox

Since launch, Grow a Garden has seen several updates, including the addition of its very own Chicken Jockey-style character. Given the game’s steady player base, those updates aren’t likely to slow down any time soon. With new content keeping things fresh, alongside cozy-yet-addictive gameplay, Grow a Garden has locked in on something special within the Roblox universe.

Roblox Grow a Garden Bizzy Bees
The Bizzy Bees event returns for round two in Grow a Garden

The game’s next update will arrive this coming weekend on June 7th. Titled the Bizzier Bees update, the new Grow a Garden expansion will add more to the game’s limited-time bee event. Fans can expect new content and features in this follow-up to the original Bizzy Bee event, giving players new seeds, pets, and gear to unlock as Grow a Garden gets even better. If you need more time with those adorable Roblox square bees, this event is a can’t miss.

The Bizzier Bees event in Grow a Garden runs from June 7th – June 14th, giving players plenty of time to join in on the bee event, round two. From there, we’re likely to see more new updates and events to keep this popular Roblox garden growing. For gamers waiting on their next great farming sim, this is a solid way to pass the time.

Have you tried Grow a Garden yet? What do you think of this latest popular Roblox game? Let us know in the comments below!

A couple of classic Star Wars games are free with an Amazon Prime subscription right now, courtesy of Prime Gaming. That said, they are only free through June 4, which means come June 5, the offer will expire. Meanwhile, these specific Prime Gaming deals are PC only so those on console don’t have to worry about the window of opportunity closing because it is not open for them in the first place.

The first of the two Star Wars games is Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds Saga, a real-time strategy game made by Ensemble Studios and LucasArts, and released in 2001 via the PC. 24 years later, the classic Star Wars game has notably never come to console. The studio, Ensemble Studios, closed down in 2009, but before this they also gave the world Age of Empires, Age of Mythology, and Halo Wars.

It’s important to note that Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds Saga is called that because it features not only 2001’s Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, but its 2002 expansion, Clone Campaigns. While both the game and its expansion had its fans, they didn’t light the world on fire commercially even with a respectable 75 on Metacritic, hence why it never got a sequel.

The other free Star Wars game is LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga, a 2007 release from Traveller’s Tales (the studio responsible for a metric ton of LEGO games over the years) and LucasArts. The multi-platform release combines Lego Star Wars: The Video Game and its sequel, Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy, into one package. Unlike Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, it sold very well and paired this with an 80 on Metacritic.

It is important to note that while an Amazon Prime subscription is needed to access these pair of free downloads, a subscription is not needed to retain the pair of free downloads. Once they are added to your library, they are free to keep, unlike PlayStation Plus, Nintendo Switch Online, and Xbox Game Pass games.

A new free Steam game is now available for all PC users. The free Steam game in question is a strategy game meets RPG that was released in 2022 by developer Ars Goetia and publisher Dear Villagers. In addition to standard PC users, this offer is also relevant for Steam Deck users. While the free Steam game is not Steam Deck Verified, its Steam listing does note the PC game is “Playable” on Steam Deck. “Playable” means the game can be played on Steam Deck, but it may require extra effort in configuration and it may not play very well.

The free Steam game in question is called Hellslave, and this new free promotion — which runs until June 16 — comes on the back of its sequel being announced last month. In other words, this promotion is no doubt to promote the upcoming sequel, which is 2026 bound. Whatever the case, the promotion saves PC users $20 on a PC game that is apparently quite good.

On Steam, the RPG has a “Very Positive” rating, the second highest rating a game can earn on Steam. This is thanks to an 81 percent approval rating across 717 different user reviews.

“The apocalypse is here, and humanity stands on the edge of extinction,” reads an official elevator pitch of the free game on Steam, for those completely unfamiliar with it. “In Hell slave, the only way to stop the demon horde is by making a pact with the Devil and choosing which of the 6 demons to worship. Will you embrace the power of darkness to save the world, or will it consume you?”

Those that decide to check out this new free Steam game should expect an experience that, on average, will run you anywhere from 8 to 12 hours, with variation coming down to playstyle and completion rate.

“This was a very pleasant surprise,” reads one of the aforementioned Steam user reviews. “Dark fantasy done right, this game absolutely nails the atmosphere. From the music to the art direction, everything is spot-on. The combat is fast and fun, and the whole experience lasts just under 15 hours — just about right, without overstaying its welcome.”

Persona 5 Royal Is Cheaper Than Ever Before in One-Day Sale https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/persona-5-royal-sale-pc-fanatical/ https://comicbook.com/gaming/news/persona-5-royal-sale-pc-fanatical/#respond Sat, 31 May 2025 22:00:00 +0000 https://comicbook.com/?p=1356564

For one day only, Persona 5 Royal is the cheapest it’s ever been, but, like a good opportunity, it’s only available for a limited time. When it comes to JRPGs of the past decade, few can come close to Persona 5, much less its remaster, Persona 5 Royal. Its massive success in the West has led to multiple spinoffs, as well as its popularity spawning remakes of past titles like Persona 3 and, if the rumors are true, Persona 4. In fact, you only have 24 hours to take advantage of the deal, which is a steal worthy of a Phantom Thief.

Persona 5 Royal, which was released in 2019, remastered the whole original game and added a new semester, party member, Personas, mechanics, and gameplay fixes. The story follows an unnamed protagonist (aka Joker) who, with the power of Persona, goes into people’s Palaces with a team of fellow student outcasts and changes the hearts of the corrupt. Over the course of the game, more will awaken to their Personas and join your Phantom Thieves, including the Royal-exclusive Kasumi Yoshizawa, aka Violet. If you haven’t played Persona 5 Royal, this may be the best time to do it, thanks to Fanatical.

Persona 5 Royal is 65% Off for One Day on Steam

Fanatical, which has been a beacon for those looking for great deals on PC, is holding a flash sale only available for one day. Three games are available on sale: Ember Knights, Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance Digital Deluxe Edition, and, of course, Persona 5 Royal. In Persona 5 Royal’s case, the game on Steam has been reduced by 65%, lowering the price from $59.99 to a whopping $20.99. The deal can be found at this link here. This makes Fanatical’s one-day deal the cheapest the title has ever been, as the lowest it’s gone via Steamdb prior was $23.99. It’s important to note that the deal is only available on PC, specifically Steam, so console players are out of luck.

The Persona series has been a beacon for RPG fans, even more so recently after Persona 5‘s success. The 2016 game has been considered to be one of the best titles of the 2010s, despite not releasing in the West until 2017. There have been multiple spinoffs for the title, from the rhythm-focused Persona 5: Dancing in Starlight, hack-and-slash-based Persona 5 Strikers, and the strategy title Persona 5 Tactica. Just recently, a semi-sequel to Persona 5 was revealed to be coming to the West in the form of Persona 5: The Phantom X. The mobile and PC gacha game, which follows a new band of Phantom Thieves in a world devoid of desire, was only available in China and other Asian countries before coming here. It’s currently scheduled to release on June 26th, 2025. So, for those looking to get in on the action before The Phantom X‘s launch, Fanatical has the deal for you.

As mentioned before, Persona 5 Royal is available for $20.99 for only one day on Fanatical for PC, ending on June 1st. For all things Persona, keep it here at ComicBook.

A new Steam game just released on May 20 has an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating thanks to 99 percent of 774 user reviews rating the game positively. Better yet, the Steam game is free. Those on Steam Deck will want to know though that the free Steam game in question lists Steam Deck compatibility as “Unknown.” To this end, it could run well on Steam Deck or not at all. Steam Deck users have nothing to lose though because the PC game is free.

Released by Whalefall and Micah Boursier, the game free Steam game in question is Poco, a point-and-click adventure game that blends together 2D and 3D. This is notably the first Steam release from the former, while the latter previously put out BirdGut in 2019 and The Multi-Medium in 2023.

“Poco is a 2D/3D hybrid point-and-click adventure game where you play as Poco, a two-inch tall clown who is banished from a giant walking circus, and left to fend for themselves in the undergrowth of the Below World, where they befriend and enlist the help of the local homunculus population to build a rocket,” reads an official description of the free game on Steam. “Explore the beautiful, cluttered Below World… Where everything broken, lost, or unwanted from the Worlds Above comes to decay.

It’s important to note this is not a limited time offer. Poco is permanently free on Steam. Because of this, Valve lists it as “free to play,” but there are no free-to-play elements to the PC game. This means there are no microtransactions or anything typically associated with free-to-play games. It is just a straightforward free game with no stings attached. And according to user reviews, it is pretty great.

“How is this free,” reads one of the user reviews. An absolutely stunning little game that scratched an itch I forgot I even had, a huge throwback to my childhood days playing point-and-click gems like Putt-Putt and Pajama Sam. Poco captures that same whimsical, exploratory magic but gives it a delightfully modern, slightly twisted spin.”

Another user review adds: “There is no possible way this game is free. Has great art, music, characters, puzzles, and a little bit of a dark twist. Great way to spend two hours.”

As the second Steam user review points out, the game is about a couple hours long, which isn’t very long, that is two hours of high-quality free content.

Those who’ve been waiting for Stellar Blade‘s PC release, you’re in luck. Today, PlayStation announced that a demo for the otherworldly action title, once a PlayStation exclusive, is available now for Steam players to try out. The title, which is expected to launch on June 11th, has been highly anticipated by PC users, as the original game was a hit when it launched in April 2024. The PC version of Stellar Blade had been teased for quite some time, with confirmation this year and the release date leaked not long after. Now, fans will get a chance to play the game in a whole new way, and get a taste of the new features that come with it.

Stellar Blade, for those unaware, is an acclaimed action title from South Korean studio Shift Up, known for Goddess of Victory: Nikke. You play as Eve, a freedom fighter sent to Earth to fight the Naytibas, an alien race hellbent on destroying the human race. Through hack-and-slash gameplay akin to Bayonetta and Nier: Automata, you’ll take on whatever comes your way and save whatever is left of humanity. In our review of the title, which we gave a 4 out of 5, we said, “…Stellar Blade boasts some surprisingly involved combat systems and fantastic creature designs all in a relatively compact experience.” While some controversy was put towards the game regarding the protagonist’s costume choices, the action gameplay and intriguing world was enough to warrant a PC release and, now, a demo.

Stellar Blade Demo Now Available on Steam

The demo, which lasts around 40 minutes, is similar to the one originally released on PlayStation 5 last year, but will now include a new boss for fans to tackle once the main demo is complete. The demo is also free to download wherever, not being region-locked like it was before. Save data will also be transferrable to the main game once it releases, making it a great way to see how the title will play on PC, what with the AI upscaling, 4K textures, ultrawide monitor support, and unlocked frame rate. As mentioned before, the demo is available on Steam and Windows. Fortunately, for those who enjoy the demo, Stellar Blade, both the Standard and Complete Editions, are currently 10% off on Fanatical, so you can save humanity and some cash on your end.

Stellar Blade will release on PC via Steam and Windows on June 11th. As mentioned before, the demo for Stellar Blade is now available for PC players to try. For all things Stellar Blade, PC, and more, keep it here at ComicBook.

Steam is giving away an Xbox game for free for a limited time. More specifically, as of today, and until July 1, all Steam user can grab a 2020 Xbox Game Studios’ release for free. Unfortunately, for Steam Deck users the game is only listed as “Playable” rather than “Verified.” To this end, according to Valve, this means the game is functional on Steam Deck but may require various user inputs and configurations to get it to a desirable place on the handheld.

That said, those on Steam Deck or just a normal PC can now download the PC version of Tell Me Why for free. Normally, to add the game to your Steam library costs $20. As for the game itself, Tell Me Why is an episodic adventure game from Xbox Game Studios and Dontnod Entertainment, the latter best known for the Life Is Strange series. The game debuted back in 2020 on the Xbox One and PC, and it has never been ported anywhere else, meaning it remains an Xbox One console exclusive.

Upon release, the PC version of Tell Me Why earned a 75 on Metacritic while the Xbox One version earned a 78. Meanwhile, it was notably nominated for Game for Impact at The Game Awards that year, a nomination it ended up capitalizing on by winning.

Coupling this, the PC game has a “Very Positive” rating on Steam, thanks to 82 percent of 13,761 user reviews rating the game positively. For those that don’t know, “Very Positive” is the second highest rating a game can earn on Steam.

“In this intimate mystery, reunited twins Tyler and Alyson Ronan use their supernatural bond to unravel the memories of their loving but troubled childhood,” reads an official description of the game on Steam for those unfamiliar with it. “Set in beautiful small-town Alaska, Tell Me Why features true-to-life characters, mature themes and gripping choices. As you conjure up memories of the past, your choices will affect the twins’ relationship, determine the strength of their bond, and shape the course of their lives.”

Those that decide to check out Tell Me Why on PC now that it is free on Steam should expect a game that is about 9 to 11 hours on average. Those that like to play games to 100% completion rate will need more like 13 or 14 hours with the free Steam game though.

If you haven’t had the chance to play Stellar Blade but are playing via Steam next month, PC players are in luck thanks to a new sale. With the upcoming release of the 2024 cybernetic action title on Steam on June 11th, the game has already been given a reasonable discount. Launching last year, Stellar Blade made waves on PlayStation 5 as an exclusive, with many enjoying its intense combat and impressive visuals. While it did stir up some controversy regarding its main character, the reception of the title was enough to warrant some major award nominations. Therefore, this deal is sure to be a big steal for those who want to jump in, especially with the surprise sequel coming soon.

Stellar Blade, for those who don’t know, is an action title from Shift Up, a South Korean studio known for Goddess of Victory: Nikke. You play as Eve, a freedom fighter sent to Earth to fight the Naytibas, an alien race hellbent on destroying the human race. Through hack-and-slash gameplay similar to Bayonetta and Nier: Automata, you’ll slay whatever comes your way and save the remaining humans in the Colony. In our review of the title, which we gave a 4 out of 5, we said, “…Stellar Blade boasts some surprisingly involved combat systems and fantastic creature designs all in a relatively compact experience.” Now, with its big release on PC, Fanatical has a great offer on the title that you won’t want to miss.

Stellar Blade is 10% Off Ahead of PC Release

Stellar Blade is discounted ahead of June 11th’s PC release.

Ahead of its June 11th release date, the Standard Edition of Stellar Blade is currently being priced at $53.99, a 10% discount compared to the normal $59.99 price it’ll go for at launch. Furthermore, the 10% discount applies to the title’s Complete Edition, lowering the price from $79.99 to $71.99. You can check out the deal on Fanatical linked here. The discount is only available for the Steam versions of the game, so PlayStation fans won’t be able to take advantage of the deal. Also, while there isn’t any deadline as to when Fanatical’s deal on Stellar Blade will end, it seems likely that it will just be until release, so those interested should take advantage as soon as they can.

The PC version of Stellar Blade had been set up to be announced for quite a while, first surfacing from a financial filing last year. It was officially confirmed in November 2024, and has just recently received its June 11th release after a trailer leaked online with the date and additions. Differing from the PlayStation version, the PC version will have AI upscaling, unlocked frame rate, 25 brand new costumes, and an entirely new boss battle. In addition, those who purchase the Complete Edition will get the Nier: Automata DLC and Goddess of Victory: Nikke DLC. With the sequel recently hinted at releasing before 2027, there may not be a better time to join Eve in her fight for humanity than now.

Stellar Blade will launch on Steam on June 11th. The deal, going on at Fanatical, is available here for an unspecified time. For all things Stellar Blade, PC, and more, keep it here at ComicBook.

The Epic Games Store has been a great marketplace for players to pick their next title, whether it’s brand new or classic. However, there’s a pretty sizeable collection of games from an equally huge publisher that’s totally absent from the Epic Games Store. Usually, many would make sure to have their games on multiple marketplaces as to ensure as many people can play it the way they prefer to. While the Epic Games Store is relatively new compared to Steam, it is a bit shocking that one major company in the video game world hasn’t put its games on it.

The Epic Games Store, created by Epic Games, the same creators of Fortnite and Unreal Engine, was released in 2018 as a response to Steam’s high revenue cut. Over the years, many game companies have brought their games to the storefront, sometimes even being exclusive to it instead of Steam. Some of those games include Tom Clancy’s The Division 2, Satisfactory, and Shenmue 3, but you won’t find any games from Capcom in the Epic Games Store

Capcom Is Still Not On Epic Games Store

As noticed by user Madukes96 on Reddit, iconic Japanese publisher Capcom has yet to launch any of their titles on the Epic Games Store. The company, which is home to several famed franchises like Resident Evil, Street Fighter, and Monster Hunter, has done quite well on other platforms like consoles and Steam. Yet, even with the success of the Epic Games Store, it seems Capcom hasn’t looked to the storefront to transfer its already-released titles on.

The post does bring up a quote from Capcom’s 2nd Quarter of Fiscal Year 2020 Presentation, linked here, where an invested inquired about if the company would release projects on the Epic Games Store.

“We are not commenting on specific services at this time,” Capcom said in response to the question about the Epic Games Store and other storefronts. “We will continue to evaluate opportunities on a variety of platforms.”

one of Monster Hunter Wilds’ characters, Gemma.

Capcom’s lack of presence on the Epic Games Store is indeed noticeable, especially when some of its bigger titles have had huge success on various platforms. For example, Monster Hunter Wilds, which came out earlier this year, had a record-breaking eight million copies sold in three days, making it the fastest ever Capcom game to reach that feat. On Steam, launch day had a peak on 1.3 million players, ranking it among the most-played titles on the service ever. The Resident Evil games also frequently go on sale, so while there are ample opportunities to get them elsewhere, you won’t find them discounted as part of the Epic Games Store’s many sales.

Despite Capcom’s not being on the service, Epic Games Store still continues to bring in new customers every day. One of its biggest selling points is its giveaways, where new free games are available each week. This week, you can get Deliver at All Costs, Gigapocalyse, and Sifu for free until May 29th. It’s a pretty good way to get players to play titles on your service and expose them to new genres. However, for the time being, we may not see Devil May Cry or Dead Rising as one of those for a while.

Are you shocked Capcom hasn’t released its games onto the Epic Games Store? Which games, if any, would you like to see on it? Let us know in the comments below! For all things Epic Games Store, Capcom, and more, keep it here at ComicBook.

A Steam game that normally costs PC users $40 is currently available for free. That said, this offer is only available for a limited time or, more specifically, until May 26. After this, the Steam deal will expire and the PC game will revert back to its normal $40 price point. Unfortunately, while this offer is available to Steam Deck users, the game is not Steam Deck Verified. Rather, it is listed as Playable, which means the game is functional on Steam Deck, however issues may be present and it may require users to put extra effort into configuration.

As for the free Steam game in question, it is Warhammer 40,000: Gladius – Relics of War, a 2018 release from developer Proxy Studios and publisher Slitherine. At the time, this was the former’s sophomore release following 2013’s Pandora: First Contact. Meanwhile, since then the developer has released Zephon, which came out back in 2024.

According to Steam user reviews, the 2018 Warhammer 40,000 game is pretty good. To date, the strategy game has amassed 14,413 user reviews, 81 percent of which are positive. This gives the PC game a “Very Positive” rating on Steam, the second highest rating a Steam game can earn.

As for the game itself, Warhammer 40,000: Gladius – Relics of War is not just notable because it is a Warhammer 40,000 game, but it is particularly noteworthy within the world of Warhammer 40,000 because it is the first turn-based 4X strategy game set in said universe.

“Gladius Prime was known to Imperial scholars as a planet of archeological interest,” reads an official story synopsis of the game on Steam. “During its colonization ancient relics were found, revealing hints of a shrouded past. But it was more than relics. Something awakened, an unspeakable horror from an ancient past, and the citizens of Gladius found themselves trapped in a terrible war for survival. Gladius Prime was once a planet of peace. Now there is only war.”

Those that decide to check out Warhammer 40,000: Gladius – Relics of War now that it is free on Steam should bare minimum expect to dump about 10 to 11 hours into the game to complete its campaign. However, completionists will need closer to 50 to 55 hours with the strategy game. And of course, as a turn-based 4X strategy game, it had ample replayability.

One of May’s best and most popular Steam games is now Steam Deck verified roughly a week or two after its release. Previously, it was playable on Steam Deck, but not Verified. For those confused about what the difference is, “Verified” refers to a status given out by Valve itself after it conducts testing on the game that ensures it not only entirely runs on Steam Deck, but works nicely with its built-in controls and display.

The Steam game in question is The Precinct, which has fallen down the Steam charts a bit since its release, but was at one point outselling heavyweights like The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered. For those unfamiliar with the game, The Precinct is a neon-noir action sandbox police game where you play as the police. It was released on May 13, at the price of $29.99, by Fallen Tree Games.

According to Steam user reviews, The Precinct is pretty good. Right now, it has 3,778 user reviews, and 85 percent of these reviews are positive, giving it a “Very Positive” Steam User Review rating. This is the second highest rating a game can earn on Steam.

“You are Officer Nick Cordell Jr. As a rookie beat cop fresh out of the Academy, you’re on the front line of defence for Averno’s citizens,” reads an official description of the game, for those unfamiliar with it. “Dive into a world of thrilling car chases, sandbox crimes, and a healthy dose of 1980s noir as you protect the populace and solve the mystery of your father’s murder in the line of duty.”

The game’s official Steam description continues: “A love letter to classic cop movies, The Precinct combines police sim with action sandbox spectacle. Patrol the streets and respond to callouts to fight criminals petty and powerful. Choose your own tactics in thrilling chases and shootouts. Feel the shifting power struggles of Averno’s gangs in a living city full of sandbox crimes, from parking infractions to bank heists, street racing to drug deals.”

“Love the game. Reminds of the old GTA games. Graphics are nice, runs smooth and the story uses voice overs so I can play without reading the game,” reads one of the aforementioned user reviews.

Those that decide to check out The Precinct on Steam Deck should expect to sit down with the police game for about 10 to 16 hours, with the variance coming down to factors such as playstyle and completion rate.

New Gacha Games 2025 Rememento White Shadow Global Launch

With more people picking up mobile gaming and many gamers balking at the up-front cost of traditional games, gachas are rising in popularity. Many recent popular mobile games, including Pokemon TCG Pocket, employ gacha-style mechanics. You can play the game for free, but those lottery-style pulls will cost you in in-game grind or real-life cash. While there are already some great gacha games out there, fans are always looking for the next exciting new release to check out. Now, a highly anticipated gacha called Rememento: White Shadow appears to have set its sights on a global release date of May 28th.

HoYoverse games like Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail are some of the most popular gachas out there, and newcomers like Wuthering Waves have picked up steam as well. This upcoming release has many gamers saying it looks like a mix of Honkai and Wuthering Waves, which has global gamers excited to see it release. And now, an update from the developer appears to target a global release date for Rememento: White Shadow.

This information comes from a forum update from the developers of Rememento: White Shadow, where it shared details about the game’s upcoming 1.4 update. Among the translated details, one gacha gamer spotted details about global servers getting added to the game, alongside the option to select country-specific languages, including English, Japanese, German, French, and Spanish, alongside the original Korean.

Global Launch for Rememento: White Shadow Could Be a Quiet One

Aside from this hint in the patch notes for the 1.4 update, however, Rememento has yet to share much about this supposed global release. This has some fans doubting whether it’s actually happening. If the translated details are accurate, however, it looks like a global version of the gacha will arrive with the next patch on May 28th. However, gacha gamers scouring the web for information on how to pre-register or any English-language social media accounts for the game haven’t had much luck.

It’s possible that this patch will add the global servers, but not necessarily make them fully live. However, if the translation is accurate, the notes do say “you can choose between Korean and global servers through server selection.” This suggests that gamers will be able to access Rememento: White Shadow‘s global servers when this update goes live. However, if the mobile game isn’t available on App Stores, it may require gamers to head to the game’s website and use its PC client. If so, it’s likely not going to take off quite like games like Genshin, which are easily accessible on multiple platforms.

Characters in Rememento White Shadow
Two new character skins coming to Rememento: White Shadow

Despite doubt about whether the game is actually launching with so little fanfare, many gacha fans are excited for this one. It has earned the nickname “Wuthering Star Rail” from some hardcore gacha fans due to its apparent combination of some of the best elements of Wuthering Waves and Honkai: Star Rail. The game’s world looks much like the one depicted in Wuthering Waves, while gameplay has been described as similar to Honkai: Star Rail. And as one player puts it, that combination could be “the best of 2 worlds.”

Gacha fans will have their eyes on this one as the supposed global launch date of May 28th approaches. Hopefully, we’ll be able to jump in and see if the hype holds up for Rememento: White Shadow soon enough!

We all know about Shy Guy, the sentient computer, Plague Doctor, and SCP’s statuesque neck-breaker, 173. But what about the lesser-known evils, those Keter entries that make you grateful these strange anomalies and entities don’t really exist.

Secure, Contain, Protect. That’s the name, the motto, the words to live by. Stories like Chinese whispers spread around the world wide web, breathing life into dark fiction. Although they may not be real, some SCPs stay with you. Whether they’re reimagined in a physical form through legendary SCP games like Containment Breach or have intricate lore that makes them believable, there’s an SCP out there that will manifest in your mind and haunt you.

This expansion community-based world is vast and rich of content, but what are the scariest SCPs ever “discovered?” With recordings and images of these contained diseases, anomalies, and entities, SCPs are classified as one of four categories: Safe, Euclid (containable), Keter (can escape containment), and Thaumiel (SCPs that counter others). Here are the creepiest SCPs ever recorded. Make sure to read their entire entries of these SCPs and pray you’ll get proper sleep tonight.

5) SCP-5000

Also known as: Why?

SCP-5000 could be a television show with its intricate story that gives us the perfect start, middle, and end. What’s interesting about this entry is that the SCP is referencing a metal suit, but reading the journal entries tells a very different story, where the suit is one small component to a larger, more terrifying tale.

Like something out of Devilman Crybaby, SCP-5000 tells a tale of what would happen if the Foundation turned against humanity, unleashing their contained Keter to annihilate the human race. But why would they do such a thing? The Foundation acted like a hive mind as a result of looking at classified images (“eggs, trees, religious stuff”). This was a second file that was quickly redacted following its nefarious effects. But it wasn’t a memetic agent that triggered a response to whoever saw then, making me wonder, what exactly was it? These images resulted in global catastrophe where the worst, most evil, most deadly SCPs were released into the world, free to enact all kinds of violence against the innocent.

Could you imagine such terror unfolding around the world at once, killing everything in its path? Monsters free to rule Earth, where only Thaumiel SCPs could help you stay safe, but these were only available to Foundation members that escaped the entrance of Hell in time. There’s one question you will always return to; whether you lived one minute, one month, or one year into the Foundation’s attack on humanity: why?

4) SCP-4666

Also known as: The Yule Man

A seemingly immortal and naked humanoid figure hibernates for most of the year, appearing from December 21-22 and leaving January 1-2. The Yule Man has specific rules it abides by, being that it targets families with children, one child must be under the age of eight. The Yule Man will only target families in rural homes, where it watches from afar or makes connect with the targeted child by looking through their window. Footsteps are heard, followed by an unpleasant odor, but the Yule Man is never seen.

The families describe their homes as haunted during this time, until the Yule Man eventually attacks, killing all family members, and abducting the eight-year old. The family is tortured and killed in front of one another. The first known recording of Yule Man was in 1498, the latest, 1996. SCP-4666 appears human, but has bizarre characteristics that separate it from what we know: double whorl fingerprint and hair without testable DNA.

Honestly, the terror of the Yule Man is enough to forgo having children altogether, for the threat of this horrifying humanoid is too grand. How does it know when a child turns eight? Why rural areas? What does it do with the abducted children? Unfortunately there’s an answer for the latter, as children have been turned into dolls, their scalp removed in place of another child’s hair, mouth sewn shut by tendons, eyes replaced with peddles, and fingernails swapped for others. It’s Toy Story‘s Sid all grown up. Worst of all, these “dolls” are still alive.

Christmas would never be celebrated again.

3) SCP-3001

Also known as: Red Reality

Imagine a dimension engulfed in blackness where the only light present is a flickering red from the recording device. This is what Dr. Scranton experienced. But unlike him, anyone else transported here wouldn’t have the comfort of the light to speak to. The recording offered spatial awareness for Scranton, which would be missing for others. He knew how much time had passed, but that doesn’t mean he’s lucky.

Scranton could feel hunger, but never eat, thirst, yet never drink. He would wander the darkness, searching for an exit for years, just to find the same blackness surrounding him. Madness is inevitable, but what of your physical body? Days turn to months, turn to years, your body decaying slowly, but unaware of what it’s becoming. A smell of iron consumes you, your limbs start to dissipate into the sludge below. Is this void just death? A darkness that has taken those who came before and those who will come after? This is not nothingness for you are alive, conscious, aware you are somewhere you don’t belong.

The void prolongs your suffering, eating away at your mind and body. Scranton called it a “dead end.” It is a terrifying, isolating life to live, incapable of ending ones suffering for the void won’t allow it. Scranton entered this dimension in 1961 and emerged in 2005, his body made up of blood and vomit, his being stretched across the recording device, where his wife, Anna was the first to see what he’d become. He made it back, but it only cost him everything.

2) SCP-7179

Also known as: E is for Eternity

Many like myself are terrified of the thought of death. The human mind is incapable of truly understanding the concept of “nothing” as we still come up with something to define it, thus implying there could never really be nothing because we simply cannot comprehend it. But imagine if your consciousness were transported into an SCP upon death? Unlike our version of reality, however, you are of peak health and are placed in what (on the surface) would be deemed a sanctuary.

SCP-7179 is a tropical island, full of amenities that make it seem like Heaven initially. Perfect weather, a readily available beach house upon arrival, and three other humans to greet you (although I wouldn’t classify them as “normal”). Any injuries you attain, accidental or self-inflicted, heal the same amount of time it would take back on Earth, but no matter how terrible the injury may be, you can never succumb to it. What appears like Heaven on paper, quickly transforms into Hell, as you cannot leave. Time passes and feels the same as life on Earth, but any attempt to leave just spawns you on the other side of the island. What remains a constant is the forever pushing on of time.

This makes SCP-7179 absolutely terrifying, for the idea of living forever would quickly become boring, then maddening. Imagine that. To live forever and be unable to experience true nothingness. Life of fulfilment, peace, or regret means absolutely nothing when it never ends. How long even is eternity?

1) SCP-2718

Also known as: What Happens After

There’s a warning on your screen for investigating this SCP. Amnestic treatment is recommended. Do not scroll beyond this point. But curiosity tugs away at you, so you ignore and click on “DAMMERUNG EYES ONLY.” Dammerung? This class doesn’t even exist. Yet you look anyway, only to discover what happens after we die.

An Overseer called Roger was brought back to life. He was dead for 18 years. Everything seemed normal at first until Roger started asking and pushing about immortal life. While he claimed he didn’t see anything on the other side, he returned to Earth sobbing. Roger’s description of what happens when you die is neither Heaven nor Hell, neither a dream nor a nightmare. It cannot be accurately described. Trapped in a state of extreme awareness of both space and sensations, Roger describes a perpetual suffocation.

Feeling everything during decomposition; larvae crawling in his skin, insects consuming his dead flesh, the destruction of cells, fluids seeping out of every orifice. He felt and understood every moment of his body returning to the Earth, yet this was only the beginning. The pain stretched his body, worse than any pain we’ve endured in our individual lifetimes. This is what everyone before us and everyone after us will endure? Is it even enduring at this point? It’s not living yet was more pain than when we were alive. Roger saw this as our human condition, that through no fault of our own, through no action (be it evil or as a saint), would alter this outcome.

This SCP isn’t so much a living entity or an object, but a thought, a fact, and confirmation of what happens when we die. If we learnt that this was the true nature of our death, wouldn’t you want so desperately to avoid this fate? But the result is to forget, for ignorance is bliss. Then an awful thought flooded my mind—please don’t tell me this is why babies cry when they’re born.

A Steam game that was previously a paid game is now free, and it has been made free because it is being removed from the digital PC storefront. The Steam game in question was only released back on April 1, 2024, so it is fairly new. That said, the developer and publisher of the game — Anything Nose — is shutting down. It is unclear why this means the game must be removed from Steam, but this is the reason provided by the developer. As for when exactly it is going to be removed from Steam that information is not provided. All the developer notes is it will be soon. As for the game itself, it is called Mouthole.

“We’re very sad to have to announce that Anything Nose is no longer able to continue operating,” reads an official statement from Anything Nose. “We’re also sad to announce that Mouthole will soon be removed from the Steam storefront as well. “We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who played and supported our work. We can’t say how much we’ve appreciated it.”

For those unfamiliar with the game, Mouthole is a creepy adventure RPG that places players in surreal world. And apparently it is pretty good. Right now, the free Steam game has a 97 percent approval rating across 87 different user reviews.

“Find whatever comfort you can in your house, deciding what you want to spend your limited time on and which threads you want to pull,” reads the game’s official description on Steam. “Work on your fitness, surf the web, invest in the stock market, scrub up and keep your life together – or dream to delve deeper into the mysteries inside your mouth Get to know a small cast of characters; alter their lives with your actions. Play your way and find out how your story ends.”

There is no concrete and conclusive data on how long Mouthole is, but many of the user reviews have 1-2 hours with the game. Though others have as much as 10 hours. What can certainly be confirmed it is on the shorter side. What can not be confirmed is whether or not it runs on Steam Deck. The game’s Steam page lists Steam Deck compatibility as “Unknown.”

“Came for the temporal scarcity, stayed for the existential crisis,” reads one of the aforementioned user reviews. “Underrated game. I respect the creativity that went into this project,” adds another user review.

In addition to Mouthole being removed from Steam, the studio’s upcoming game, Diacritic, is being cancelled. This means its own listing is being removed from Steam, as well as its free demo.

Let’s be honest. In this economy, many gamers have to make tough choices about which big games they can afford. For many, that means looking at free-to-play games to get their gaming fix. But with microtransactions, ads, and more, not all free games are created equal. If you’re looking for a good, free game to play on Steam, here’s a list of highly rated, solid games that actually offer enjoyable gameplay and a good amount of content.

From HoYoverse-style games like Wuthering Waves to in-depth RPGs like Path of Exile 2, there’s a free gaming option for just about anyone on Steam, if you know where to look. To make this ranking, I took a few different factors into account. First, the overall Steam ratings had to fall in the “Very Positive” category. Then, I considered the total number of reviews, while also trying to include a mix of genres for a well-rounded list. With that in mind, here are the best free Steam games in 2025.

10. Wuthering Waves

Wuthering Waves on Steam
The art style of Wuthering Waves is part of its appeal

Genre: Single-player Action RPG

Steam Deck Verified: No (But In Progress)

This game has fewer Steam reviews than most on our list because it’s a fairly new arrival on the platform. Still, Wuthering Waves has quickly grown a large fanbase on Steam, following its success as a mobile game and PS5 title. This open-world RPG from developer Kuro Games has an anime art style that’s earned it HoYoverse comps, but also offers challenging combat and a unique story all its own.

9. Palia

Palia Free Steam Game
Farming in Palia on Steam

Genre: Multiplayer Life/Farming Sim

Steam Deck Verified: Playable

One of two cozy games on our list is Palia, a beloved life sim from Singularity 6. This free-to-play game has multiplayer elements, but also offers plenty for solo gamers who want to get into some planting, crafting, and exploring. Palia is also available on Nintendo Switch and plans to launch soon for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, with cross-play and cross-progression. So, it’s a solid free option for your next cozy multiplayer virtual hang.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links Steam
Steam Screenshot for Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Links

Genre: Online TCG with Singleplayer & Multiplayer Components

Steam Deck Verified: Yes

Duel Links is one of a few free Yu-Gi-Oh! games on Steam alongside Master Duel. However, for this list, I went with Duel Links as more recent reviews for Master Duel skew less positive. With Duel Links, you’ll be able to take on duels against iconic characters like Yugi, Kaiba, Joey, and Mai – with actual voices from the anime! It offers a single-player campaign and online PvP for the best of both worlds. If you find yourself saying “it’s time to d-d-d-d-duel” with any regularity, this might be the free Steam game for you.

7. Star Wars: The Old Republic

Star wars: The old Repulic features some familiarfaces

Genre: MMORPG

Steam Deck Verified: Playable

Don’t worry, we won’t forget something for gamers who prefer games set in a galaxy far, far away. Star Wars: The Old Republic is Broadsword and EA Games’ take on a Star Wars MMORPG. And if those Very Positive Steam reviews are to be believed, it works. The game lets you customize your own Sith or Jedi character as you navigate an open-world RPG with a distinct Star Wars flavor. It still gets regular content updates, so you won’t run out of things to do any time soon.

6. The Sims 4

Sims 4 gameplay screenshot

Genre: Life Sim

Steam Deck Verified: Playable

Of course, we can’t leave out what’s quite possibly the biggest life sim around. The Sims 4 went free-to-play for the base game a few years ago, and fans are still loving what it has to offer. Yes, the expansion packs and paid add-ons are tempting, but there’s a good amount of content in the free base game, which sees regular updates. For telling your own stories (or dooming Sims to various deaths), it’s hard to beat The Sims 4.

5. Path of Exile

Path of Exile Free on Steam

Genre: Action RPG / MMORPG

Steam Deck Verified: Playable

The newest game from Grinding Gear Games, Path of Exile 2, has a price tag attached to early access. But the first installment, which still gets regular updates from GGG as well, is free-to-play on Steam. It remains among the most-played games to this day, with an overall Very Positive rating. As an action-RPG, there are optional co-op and PvP opportunities, but the game works just fine for single players as well. For an engaging dungeon-crawling RPG experience that’s free on Steam, you can’t do better than Path of Exile.

4. Marvel Rivals

Sunshine Rocket Raccon Squirrel Girl Marvel Rivals
recentlyl added marvel rivals skins for rocket racoon and squirrel girl

Genre: Third-Person Hero Shooter

Steam Deck Verified: Playable

Is it any surprise that the wildly popular Marvel superhero shooter makes our list? Marvel Rivals is indeed free on Steam, and despite some player commentary about nerfs and buffs, it’s highly rated. And it’s no surprise. The game combines fast-paced PvP shooter gameplay with iconic Marvel characters from the MCU and beyond. Marvel Rivals offers cross-play, so you can battle it out with friends on other platforms while enjoying this free game on Steam.

3. Unturned

Unturned Free Game Steam

Genre: Zombie Survival

Steam Deck Verified: Playable

Looking for a fun, free game with a zombie survival vibe? Unturned is a highly rated multiplayer survival game on Steam where you team up with friends to survive the zombie onslaught. It offers single-player options but is at its best with online co-op or PvP modes. Unturned‘s block art style has a bit of a Minecraft vibe, making it less terrifying for your non-horror-fan friends to enjoy.

2. Warframe

Warframe Steam

Genre: Looter Shooter

Steam Deck Verified: Yes

Warframe remains one of the most popular and most highly rated free-to-play games on Steam. This free-to-play looter shooter features engaging gameplay and a solid story that keeps players coming back for more. And it still gets regular updates, adding new content on a fairly regular basis to keep things fresh. Warframe does offer single-player content, but it’s best known for multiplayer gameplay, which does include cross-play with other platforms.

1. Dota 2

Hero Selection in DOTA 2

Genre: Team-Based MOBA

Steam Deck Verified: Playable

Dota 2 is an incredibly popular, free-to-play MOBA from Valve. It still consistently tops the current player charts and has maintained a Very Positive rating since its launch in 2013. Dota 2 still sees regular updates that keep gameplay fresh with new heroes, abilities, and items. It offers a variety of game modes as well as skill-based matchmaking to ensure new players can find their groove on the battlefield. And all hero options are free, cutting back on those pay-to-win concerns, as well.

There are many indie horror gems since 2020 that have handled the disturbing darkness that appears around seemingly ordinary people. From home invasion to cosmic horrors where you must determine whether the person at your door is a human or an imposter—I’ve got too many reasons now to not go outside or interact in small talk. Stranger danger, am I right? I’m still telling couriers to leave parcels and food at the door, long after the pandemic. I need to touch grass, but how can I when there’s fake humans, crazed killers, and freaky neighbors out there? But maybe life isn’t exactly what indie horror has taught me.

In the midst of all the eerie content—there’s a wide-eyed, unnaturally moving, forever creepy cartoonish character inviting me to have dinner at his place. I’m new to the neighborhood, I just want to fit in. We all need a community, right? I don’t want to judge on first impressions or someone’s appearance. But…have you seen that neighbor? His name is Theo. There’s something very wrong with him. I can’t place it, but there’s an uneasiness in the air, an uncomfortableness. His conversations make the hairs on the back of my neck stand. His eyes pierce my soul, climbing in to remove whatever confidence I had built up just to be here. There’s a darkness in him. Emanating from the basement. A darkness I can’t escape from.

Thanks Eli Stevens—I Hate It

This is Discussion Over Dinner, a free-to-play horror game by Eli Stevens that has put me off being a dinner guest ever again. You’re new to the neighborhood and friendly Theo wants to invite you over for dinner and a chat. He’s obsessed with conversation, you see. Like a strange mix of Morty after going through the detox machine in Rick & Morty and Salad Fingers, Theo says some very strange things. He’s very particular and forces you to listen to his likes, dislikes, hobbies, and strong views.

There’s not much to like—in fact—there’s a lot to hate. But Theo can’t know any of this. Because upsetting Theo will only get you thrown into his basement, where the rest of his “pets” dwell. Claustrophobic, starving, and afraid—that’s the fate that awaits you if you don’t endure dinner.

Everything is Telling Me to Run

So what is it about this game that has me so on edge? I’ve played horror games since adolescence, but few have managed to make me as uncomfortable as this game. If you’re a socially anxious person that sucks at small talk like me, it may be how Discussion Over Dinner perfectly captures the anxiety behind forming coherent sentences without coming across as “weird.”

Or maybe it’s Theo’s gaze, how it stays on me at all times, how he leans in and ignores mypersonal space that makes me want the Earth to swallow me up so I don’t have to deal with this man a second longer.

The Uncanny Valley

Discussion Over Dinner‘s cartoonish art design is fitting, as many popular entries like Bad Parenting and Baldi’s Basics use this simplistic appearance to trick us into thinking it’s friendly and harmless when they’re far from it. His large head, massive ears and eyes, small lips, and spindly legs paint an unnatural and uncanny image; as if Theo isn’t human.

You’re on edge the moment he greets you and remain in that space, your body tense for impact as if this man might lunge at you any moment. You’re forced to not only stare at the horror, but have to risk averting your eyes from the danger so you can choose your words wisely, for misclicking could get you killed.

The Mystery, The Horror

It sounds strange but the ferocious banging from the basement of past victims screaming for help isn’t what unsettles me. It’s that Theo made you steak, but he’s not eating. What kind of meat are you eating? How are his eyes that big, and why do his pupils expand when he shakes your hand? Is this all about control? Does Theo just get off on all this? There are so many questions, and I don’t want the answers to any of them.

For a moment I think to myself: is this about how we perceive others, or perhaps, how our greatest fears of what could go wrong stop us from truly being able to connect? But then I remember Theo’s friendliness is just a façade for the wickedness that’s bursting inside him, wanting so desperately to get out.

Discussion Over Dinner is more than feeling awkward, it’s more than being uncomfortable; it’s pure anxiety. Balancing conversation, eating, and managing distractions, this game is the ultimate anxiety and stress simulator and is one I may not get over. At least people aren’t actually like this… right?

Stellar Blade Free PSN Outfit

The popular action game Stellar Blade launched in late 2024 as a PS5 exclusive, quickly earning the highest Metacritic score for any PS5 release. However, PC gamers are finally about to get a chance to experience the game when it arrives on Steam on June 11th. Developer ShiftUp recently revealed that Stellar Blade will release for PC alongside its new Complete Edition version. Naturally, pre-ordering the standard or Complete Edition of Stellar Blade comes with plenty of bonuses, but there’s one extra deal for gamers with a PSN account.

ShiftUp and PlayStation previously revealed the exciting new bonuses that players will get for pre-ordering Stellar Blade for PC or the Complete Edition for PC or PS5. Naturally, this includes some DLC content alongside a few special cosmetics for the game’s protagonist, EVE. The Complete Edition includes a few bonus perks alongside the regular pre-purchase bonuses, but apparently, ShiftUp wasn’t quite finished giving out bonuses. There’s one more special offer available for PSN customers, featuring another free EVE costume.

Stellar Blade PSN Free Costume PC Release
ShiftUp’s Image for the free PSN Stellar Blade bonus

This perk is a bit of a weird one. Gamers who buy Stellar Blade for PC via Steam, then connect their Steam and PlayStation Network accounts, will unlock the free bonus costume. Since a PSN account won’t be required to play the game on Steam, this may be an incentive to get gamers to sign up if they aren’t already using a PSN account for PlayStation.

The featured cosmetic is the EVE Planet Diving Suit (2nd), a sleek, futuristic black costume featured in Stellar Blade. The fine print notes that gamers will only be able to access the cosmetic while their Steam and PSN accounts remain connected, so no quick turning it on and back off again here.

What is the EVE Planet Diving Suit (2nd) Freebie?

This freebie is an incentive for PC gamers to link up with their PSN accounts on Steam. Given Stellar Blade’s connection to PlayStation, that certainly makes some sense. But while free cosmetics are always exciting, it’s important to note that the Planet Diving Suit (2nd) is not an exclusive reward. So, if you don’t have a PSN account or know how to connect it to Steam, it’s not impossible for you to get the costume. You just won’t get it for free, or immediately after downloading Stellar Blade for PC on June 11th.

The 2nd Planet Diving Suit costume for EVE is available in Roxanne’s Shop, which is located in Xion. The suit typically costs 3 Vitcoin, an in-game currency that you collect from various chests and by completing side quests in the game. Not every outfit is available right away, so you do need to get the shop’s affinity up before you can buy outfits like the Planet Diving Suit (2nd).

So, while it is possible for gamers who don’t link their PSN and Steam accounts to get this EVE cosmetic, you will get it earlier and arguably more easily through this free bonus. Gamers who have a PSN account and who plan to play Stellar Blade on PC when it launches may as well take advantage of this extra perk. After all, this particular EVE costume is a go-to look for many players thanks to its sleek design, so why not have the option to wear it earlier, and for free?

Stellar Blade is available now for PS5. It launches for PC on June 11th, alongside the new Complete Edition for PC and PS5. The Standard Edition costs $59.99, while the Complete Edition is $79.99. You can pre-order now via Steam.

After a long while, today, Sega and Atlus announced during a live stream that Persona 5: The Phantom X will finally be released in the West this Summer on PC and Mobile as a free-to-play game. The news was teased earlier this week, with all eyes set on today’s showcase of the title. The RPG title, which was only available in China and other countries, had yet to make its way to the United States. Now, the sequel spin-off will finally be released here, as well as in other countries like Japan. Furthermore, we have an official release date for Persona 5: The Phantom X: June 26th, 2025.

As mentioned before, the title is a PC/Mobile exclusive release, with no mention of potential console launches, like for the Nintendo Switch 2. Furthermore, Persona 5: The Phantom X is not created by Atlus’ internal teams, but by Black Wing Game Studio, a subsidiary of Perfect World Games (Tower of Fantasy). Still, the signature gameplay of Persona, like its school life simulations and social links, as well as, of course, the addictive turn-based RPG combat and dungeon crawling. In addition, the title is a Gacha game, similar to Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail, but it remains to be seen how integrated the system will be in the typical gameplay.

Persona 5: The Phantom X Releases on PC and Mobile on June 26th

The story of Persona 5: The Phantom X follows Wonder, a typical student living in a mysterious world devoid of desires. Alongside your feathered friend and owl confidante, Lufel, you’ll gain the power of strong demons called Personas and go into vast mind palaces in the Metaverse to fix the corrupt adults whose desires have become twisted. In typical Persona fashion, new teammates will join your new group of Phantom Thieves, along with new Personas, only this time, it seems the real Phantom Thieves from Persona 5, like Joker, Ann, and Ryuji, will play some role.

Despite being the fifth overall spin-off for Persona 5, with the last being Persona 5 Tactica, there’s a lot to look forward to with Persona 5: The Phantom X. Many key figures, like series producer Kazuhisa Wada and composer Ryota Kozuka, contributed to the project, with the design of protagonist Wonder and his Persona done by character designer Shigenori Soejima. Plus, the soundtrack will feature songs from Persona 5‘s vocalist Lyn, who also performs the game’s main theme, “Ambitions and Visions”, which can be heard in the trailer.

Debuting as an open beta in October 2024, Persona 5: The Phantom X was exclusive to China, Taiwan, Macau, and South Korea, with Japan having been recently announced to get the game earlier this year. Many updates to the game, like limited-time events and additional palaces and characters, have been continuously added, so we can expect even more with the Western release. Either way, it makes the wait for Persona 6 a bit more sustainable and our time with the Phantom Thieves just a while longer, which is always a good thing.

Persona 5: The Phantom X sneaks its way onto PC and Mobile platforms on June 26th, 2025 and is free-to-play. If you want to know more, you can check out the official social media accounts of Atlus West, like X and YouTube. For everything Persona, RPGs, and more, keep it here at ComicBook.

A new Steam game out today, May 15, is free, but only for its first 24 hours. After this, the PC game will become a paid game on Steam. Right now, Steam Deck compatibility is listed as “Unknown,” so it is unclear if Steam Deck users can get in on the action. However, even if it doesn’t run on Steam Deck, owners of the handheld Valve machine should still claim the free download in case this changes in the future with a future update.

Released by developers Glowfish and Rangatang, the new free Steam is Nubs: Arena. This is Rangatang’s first release, after the team was formed out of Romino Games founding members behind Awesomenauts. Meanwhile, Glowfish is making its sophomore release with this new Steam game having previously released Trifox in 2022, a 3D platformer with a “Very Positive” rating on Steam.

“All hail Konzumos the Unentertained, the one who demands to be amused,” reads an official description of the game for those interested in knowing more. “Guide your Nub through a variety of treacherous arenas brimming with traps. Unlock new power-ups after every match, and collect the most ridiculous gear to smack other Nubs down—all to become Konzumos’ favorite.

The free Steam game’s official description continues: “Nubs!: Arena is an absurd player-versus-player arena brawler inspired by old-school, top-down RPGs. Gather your friends and clash in lightning-quick multiplayer battles that mix frantic, party-style chaos with roguelite progression. Sharpen your wits (Nub-style) and battle against the other Nubs in various game modes as you dodge booby traps and lethally fling fish alike! With simple rules in a mad world, every match can spiral into all-out pandemonium at any moment!”

Why this new PC game is free its first 24 hours, the developers don’t say, but it is clearly to promote the game, which would likely extremely fly under the radar if it released under more traditional circumstances.

Unfortunately, because the Steam game is brand new, we do not have any information to offer about how much content it provides nor whether that content is any good. The good news is it costs nothing to find either these things our for yourself. Meanwhile, there is currently no word of this game coming to consoles, making it a PC and Steam exclusive.

Although there are many I’m on Observation Duty games available for you to try out and master, sometimes a change in scenery and gameplay could do you good—as a true test of your observation skills. Stretch your legs and prepare your mind for the influx of anomalies heading your way. Some are as simple as misplacing your car keys, others have a far more sinister approach that may just end in your demise.

Anomaly hunting games can be terrifying, others are oddly calming as they test your observation skills. But some games take the fundamentals of I’m on Observation Duty and throw survival-horror into the mix, where flight or fight jolts your system, for the warm comfort behind the camera monitor isn’t always available. For veteran anomaly hunters, set your eyes on these spot-the-difference horror games that’ll surely keep you transfixed.

1) Alternate Watch

The Basement in Alternate Watch with a Tulpa poking out its head on the left side of the room

Inspired by Mandela Catalogue, Alternate Watch combines standard anomaly hunting with intruders that resemble humans. These creatures are pretending to be one of us, but they can’t quite get their appearance right, there’s always something that makes them distinctly “inhuman.” Alternate Watch stands out for its intruder designs and small details in the anomalies that create a perfectly balanced spot the difference game. Although it’s an incomplete project that the developer has sadly moved on from, Alternate Watch is still incredibly polished, offering a creepy atmosphere and a dark mode to keep you on your toes.

2) CAPTURED

Looking through the ajar door at the monster with the weeping angel mechanic

CAPTURED is the Backrooms anomaly hunting game with a twist. Unlike other Observation Duty-style games where you’re trapped staring at a screen, you can walk through your apartment and scan entire rooms for anomalies. What makes CAPTURED one of the scariest spot-the-difference horror games is its entities, sound design, and use of lighting. These SCP-style monsters have unique mechanics you must understand if you want to survive. CAPTURED has a tense atmosphere that’s non-existent in other entries, as you typically feel safe observing anomalies from another room. You truly feel in danger in CAPTURED—as if you’re prey caught in a suffocating trap.

3) Caught on Camera

Entrance cam in Caught on Camera

The minute details in Caught on Camera can distract you from noticing the obvious intruder hoping you won’t spot them in time. One of the best I’m on Observation Duty-type games, Caught on Camera throws so many objects at you that it’s hard to keep track of any changes, regardless of how big or small they may be. In the midst of searching for tiny differences, intruders make their way onto the scene, all in an attempt to jumpscare you and make you forget about the layout with each snap onto another camera monitor. Caught on Camera is a true test of your spot-the-difference skills.

4) Confabulation

Demonic presence at back of the living room in Confabulation

Trapped inside a house, Confabulation mixes jumpscares with anomaly hunting, where hostile entities hide in the shadows, waiting for you to make a mistake. The candles offer insight into how many anomalies currently plague your home and where, relying on your trusty camera to help remove them (almost like exorcizing a spirit). Taking too long to find an anomaly only adds more to the list, just like I’m on Observation Duty. Rather than repeatedly going through the same area to reach a designated number (like Exit 8, Route 8, and The Ten Bells), Confabulation has you solve puzzles, manage anomalies, ward off demons, and unlock rooms to your home to uncover more lore.

5) Dead Signal

Looking down the hotel corridor from the elevator in Dead Signal

The most unique spot-the-difference horror game sees I’m on Observation Duty mixed with Welcome to the Game. Created by Scrutinized developer, Dead Signal is an unforgiving game about observation with cat-and-mouse mechanics. Being hunted by multiple hostile threats, you need to look for anomalies to get money in, fill your quota, all while evading bloodthirsty killers that will invade the apartment rooftop—or worse, your home. If you were looking for an easy Observation Duty game, then steer clear of Dead Signal‘s torment. There’s a tension in Reflect Studios’ games like no other, and Dead Signal wants nothing more than to see you squirm.

6) Para Eyes

The Lake camera in Para Eyes

Para Eyes is the closest game on this list to I’m on Observation Duty. The gameplay follows the same multiple camera monitors, but adds a sanity meter you need to pay close attention to. It’s a similar mechanic to managing FNAF’s power in the first, second, and third games of the franchise. Para Eyes has a simpler design than I’m on Observation Duty, making it easier to digest and quick to master. Relying on right-click alone to remove the tiniest of anomalies, the difficulty is increased by anomaly spawn rate and new camera angles getting added. There’s a lot to keep track of, so learn each location as fast as you can if you want to keep your sanity in check.

7) Shinkansen 0

Looking down at the human intruder hiding under a train car chair

Created by Chilla’s Art, Shinkansen 0 is a very different take on the developer’s usual Japanese horror games. Trapped in a train car, you need to reach the conductor’s room to hit the brakes—but anomalies keep you from progressing. Unlike most anomaly-hunting games, Shinkansen 0 throws hostile entities your way. This creates an uneasiness as you play through, thus increasing its overall scare factor. Shinkansen 0 has both creepy and some difficult anomalies to spot. Wandering on the edge of life and death, Shinkansen 0 is a great game that features a variety of anomalies with different spawn rates, making it unpredictable, strengthening its trial-and-error gameplay.

8) Ten Bells

A hand poking out from the fireplace inside Ten Bells bar

Ten Bells feels both homely and unsettling, having a similar format to The Cabin Factory. A story is told through the anomalies, and it’s only by reaching the end or finding all the anomalies that you can truly understand what happened to the bar staff. It’s easy to keep track of your progress as you refer to the bells dinging at the start of every round, indicating how far along you are in completing the game. There are many anomalies to find, even after completing Ten Bells, giving you an incentive to jump back in. Ten Bells has a few scary moments and is less challenging than others on the list, but it’s a great little anomaly hunting game that’s easy to invest in and doesn’t take too much of your time.

9) The Cabin Factory

Trapped inside the bathroom with the protagonist reflected inside the mirror, holding the door shut

The Cabin Factory is a unique take on the anomaly-hunting subgenre, as anomalies are delivered through haunted cabins. You must determine whether the cabin you’ve loaded in is haunted or clean—and the only way to do so is by diving headfirst into the woodwork. Some anomalies are easy to spot, others require a thorough search. But what makes The Cabin Factory different is how it tells a story. Most Observation Duty-style games give you one task: find anomalies. But, The Cabin Factory shows you the family dynamic and what happened to each member as you discover different encounters of the same haunting.

10) The Exit 8

Looking at Exit 8 ending staircase

The most popular game in the spot-the-difference indie horror space is The Exit 8. Trapped in the same corridor of a subway, Exit 8 combines P.T. and Observation Duty gameplay together for a mind-bending experience. While there isn’t a story to sink into, you quickly want to find all anomalies that either hide in plain sight or try to trick you into making the wrong choice. With only two ways to go, you must determine if there’s an anomaly and act accordingly. The goal is to correctly pass through the station eight times to escape—but there’s always the feeling of something watching—trying to stop you from reaching the exit.
